  • Personally I believe it's a family thing and he's wanted to go for some time. The club kept saying please stay a little longer and things may improve for you, and it hasn't. He's asked again to go and the club again refused. He's felt his only option was to not play to force the move. Yes he gets paid a fortune but if any of us wanted to move we could, we'd give one/three months notice and be reunited with the family.
People may say he's gone about it the wrong way but he may have been talking about it for some time and felt the club left him with no other option.
To also say well he can go an forfeit his salary or payment, why should he. No one else would.
Personally I think he may still go to PSG who may pay more for him and just be a little closer to home.
  • Dimi's history indicates he likes to play where he wants to play and leave when he wishes. What he doesn't do however is seem to recognise he should not sign any more than a one year contract as this allows him to do as he wishes and takes him beyond the transfer system, effectively making him a free agent every 12 months. He loves to renegotiate a contract and up his wages, accept a loyalty payment but doesn't seem to want to allow the club what the contract in theory offers them.

I am sure it wont be long until a player has the confidence to do this and runs his original contract down and only signs one year deals to retain full control of going where he wants and picking up signing on fees each time instead of clubs exchanging big fees.

  • Interesting thought CandBS. However the risk of injury is too great to just be on single year contracts.
  • Sweepy,

You say he's wanted to leave for 'some time' - he only signed last summer, and signed a big new contract not much more than 12 months ago.

He seemed to enjoy all of last season too. It's only since we've been fighting relegation that his performances have turned so listless.

To support what you're saying, he must have wanted to leave almost immediately after joining or straight after signing a big new deal.

Really, the earliest he could have really wanted to leave in a big way is the summer, which means that after only a few months he's at the point of refusing to wear the shirt.

    Not good enough.

The aliens from the planet Zog may have been watching the PL players for a while, wanting to create a super league on their own planet. After seeing Dimi's great season last year, they could have decided that he was the type of player they wanted.

So,they might have sent an undercover alien to make contact with his agent. But if the alien got knocked back, they might have felt that their only choices were kidnap, or cloning.

Now, knowing he has a family, and being on board with the Family > Football philosophy (coming from the east end of the galaxy, salt of the universe and all that) they might have decided they had no other option but to use the advanced gene and cloning technology which, personally, I don't think it beyond the bounds of possibility they might have developed. After all, who of us would categorically rule out other worlds, other technologies more advanced than out own?

Sadly, the unavoidable consequence of the technology might be that is that it alters the mindset of the subject. So as a result of alien technology, Dimi's thought processes could have been altered. Hence his uncharacteristic behaviour.

    Just sayin'

So, to sum up, it's the club's fault? ;hmm
  • God forbid it's the clubs fault!

    They don't make any errors.
  • Has he gone yet? How much cash do we have to spend?

    Lukerz ;hmm

    Bit unnecessary?

    Why such a snarky comment?

What evidence is there that the club is to blame?
  • God forbid it's the clubs fault!

How can a player refusing to play be the club's fault ;lol

He's had nothing but support and love. And he's thrown it back in everybody's faces.

    Disgrace.
  • Has he gone yet? How much cash do we have to spend?

Knowing this club we will spend it on 'loan players' + 'wages'
  • Talksport discussing Dimi beimg deleted from watsapp group. Also whilst i would like to tell him i think hes a naughty boy his car has been vandalised outside his home. Too far!!!
  • The difference between love & hate is a slim line (someone else said)...get Dimi out of the club quickly before it turns nasty. Please.
  • Mc, obviously if that's happened that's a disgrace from whichever morons have decided to do it ;doh
  • it's not the club's fault but there is a heavy handedness about the club to employees, players and supprters since the new owners took over.
This unpleasantness has had many victims down the years from Zola and his ugly dismissal onwards (make your own lists). Some of them were perhaps understandable but this club contrives to make enemies of its own staff , fans and players far too often and far too regularly
  • I though Swiss made a valid point. ;biggrin
  • Swiss ;ok

And to make it worse they let Matt Upson come back to train with us. One of the few I would like the club to banish forever ;doh
  • Maybe Payet thought he was to be the Marqee signing and thought 'that's it'

Guy. I did it. He can't hurt me anymore.
  • You showed him (inserts fist pump emoji)
  • The bad man has gone away, Alderz
  • The stat lord has spoken

    This is really tiresome.

    No-one has ever said that.

As you very well know, I have criticised the club in the past when I have felt it was deserved.

Implying that I unthinkingly and unequivocally absolve them from any and all responsibility for anything is just 'post-truth' commenting.

If you think the club is to blame, explain how. Give reasons. But if the reasons are nothing more than supposition and fiction, don't be surprised if not everyone is convinced by it.
  • Guys I think a lot of whatever tension there is could be eased with a little more thought about how others might read something.

Just my impression but I think sometimes the phrasing when asking for a source could be less antagonistic (imo, sometimes it does seem like a demand rather than an enquiry). On the other hand, if you don't have a link but you have heard it from someone but can't say exactly who, I think that can be said without revealing the identity.

Maybe that's all obvious but it does seem to me like all parties could ease up a bit.
  • SSN now saying Marseilles have pulled out of trying to sign Payet this January ....
  • MARSEILE GIVE UP PAYET CHASE

Marseille have abandoned their attempts to sign West Ham playmaker Dimitri Payet in the January window.

    Skysports
  • So if that's true.....maybe he has not played his last game for us, or has too much bad stuff happened that there is no return, gonna be interesting couple of weeks for us all..
