  • Depends if you believe him or not, Suz.

I do like the idea of Noble and Ginge stood arms crossed telling him he can't come out to play though.
  • I'm inclined to not believe him.
  • Me too,

    however as an observation,

I doubt that Ginge would need Nobles help in blocking his entrance to the restaurant
  • I don't think they should take less than 30m as otherwise we would find it hard to spend the money on as significant a player (if 20m gets you Andre Ayew). Although he is 30 he has a rare ability and is one of those rare players who make teams better on their own and can change and win matches with flashes of brilliance. He may not be Messi, Suarez, Ronaldo or Bale but he is in the next tier down and that for me means he cannot go for ordinary money, and in this crazy world now 20m is ordinairy premiership money, Spurs seem to be asking 20m for Ben Davies which should make Payet a lot more than 30m.
  • I'm inclined to not believe him.

I was a bit ;hmm when he said it, but there must be something in it otherwise it's libellous and I'm just not sure that he would take that risk.

It's one thing to speculate on transfers, but to make such a definite statement suggests to me that it may well be true.
  • Rumour on KUMB of Payet to Lyon for Lacazette ;wahoo

    This would be amazing.

Which is why it won't happen.
  • Cant see them wanting both Depay and Payet. Maybe the 'Pay' part got lost in translation ;whistle

I really can't see millionaires Mark Noble and James Collins being concerned with the libel of some bloke on Twitter they've never heard of.

OCS, it might not be true, but how would it then be 'libellous'? It's not defamatory, or damaging to their reputation, I don't think.

  • Was gonna add that as well ;ok

Total damages awarded to that libel would be about £1.57.
  • ;lol that not even enough for a coffee.
  • TBH I would expect the players to omit him. No point when he's gonna be gone in 12 days.
  • Because, to be honest, when I first heard it I did think it could come across as bullying, almost. That because Payet said he didn’t want to play for the club he’s been ostracised by the rest of the players.

I know there’s an argument that this is all of Payet’s doing and you reap what you sow, but it didn’t sit particularly comfortably with me.
  • OCS - get what you mean there. ;ok
  • OCS, I don't agree.

I think they are entitled to invite (or not invite) anyone they like to a social event. It's not an official club thing.

In addition, its not bullying imo (a term which seems to me to be overused these days, to describe any kind of 'mean' behaviour or nasty remark).
  • OCS

I see what you mean, however I think that the counter argument would be that it was a first team meal out, and Payet isn't in the first team anymore (I even changed him on my database so I didn't have to look at his stupid name).
  • If he hasn't learnt much English he cannot exactly join in either ... ;whistle
  • Mrs G – that’s why I added the caveat of ‘almost’. For me it sits somewhere in between. Of course they’re entitled to invite and un-invite whoever they like, and you could argue they have justifiable reasons for doing what they’ve allegedly done, but it did smack a little bit of ‘it’s my ball and you can’t play’.

Happy to stand in a minority, but that’s how it came across to me ;ok
  • Actually I agree with you OCS.

OCS, I see it a bit differently. In a team game ego is very dangerous and when the ego decides it does not want to continue to be involved it rapidly becomes corrosive. If one of my team 'mates' suddenly upped and said he didn't want to be a member of my team ever again and would refuse to play, I'm not convinced he'd continue to be a 'mate'.

However, if he had explained there were family issues and he wanted to move away, but continued to give his all for the team before moving, he would always be a 'mate'.

All this along with Noble's comments about hardly having spoken to him for 3 weeks (was it), all imply to me where the fault lies ...

    ;ok

If they have done it, I have no problem with that (personally).

For me, it's more like Dimi said 'your ball's rubbish, I don't want to play with it.' ;biggrin
  • I don't think it's ideal behaviour, which is why it almost certainly didn't happen.

Anyway, are they trying to say Payet actually wanted to go? That wouldn't have been awkward sharing some chow mein with a 6 foot 4 geordie with glowering eyes and a grudge ;lol
  • I agree, OCS. You'd assume he wouldn't turn up anyway...

If the club does actually keep him, it's not the best move either.

We feel gutted by his behaviour - imagine how they feel!!

Why on earth would they want to spend time with him socially? I wouldn't! Not until he'd apologised at least.

The silence (in the public domain, anyway) is deafening.

Outcast, if he stays, it's going to be a rocky road back for him. I don't think this supposed exclusion from a social event is really going to be the issue should they have to mend fences later on. The relationship had completely broken down before this.

Anyway, I think he's on his way, and they all know it. So it's moot.

Maybe they'll invite him to his leaving party. ;champagne

The whole thing feels like Dimi has been given preferential treatment all season, which has created a grudge amongst other players. Extra break, then no real game time in friendlies, then a couple of games off at the start of the season. Rumours that he's given extra training days off and sometimes goes awol with very few (if any) questions asked.

I think that's why we're getting this rumoured reaction from the players. Almost as if resentment has been boiling, and they're wound up 1) that he was give special treatment and 2) that he's now thrown that treatment back in their faces. And that brings us on to Slav, who looked like a man who has regretted his decisions (maybe the call to go easy on Dimi because it's Dimi) and felt like he'd 1) been let down by him and 2) maybe Slav felt he'd let his fellow players down because of those calls, hence the focus on the rest of the squad since he broke the news.

All me reading between lines that might not be there and probably all wrong, but just my gut feeling on it.

I think the family reasons are genuine, but his behaviour and potential special treatment has caused a lot of bad feeling now that he's thrown in the towel. Add all that to him being bigged up as our star player over the last 12 months and being on a decent wage...
  • Well let's hope that should Mr & Mrs Nobes go through a rough patch then the players will expect him to show up every day for training and the club to have no sympathy.
  • Removing him from a what's app group and not inviting to the dinner comes across to me as somewhat childish to be honest. However badly he may have gone about things surely the other employees should try and maintain their own conduct. It's all a bit "tit for tat" and it would seem to me to be pointless asking him to apologise (to his team mates) as their minds appear to have been made up.

You would have thought the easier thing would have been to invite him as it is almost certain he would have declined anyway!

Yet there is zero evidence any of this is the actual case of what has happened with Dimi.

To all intents and purposes, he's not a West Ham player.
