Why are we so keen on Manchester United rejects? Moyes managed most of them, and they were useless then, and older now. Rant over.

Maguire wasn't at Man U under Moyes.

Only the following who played under Moyes are still in football: Johnny Evans, Ashley Young, Zaha, Welbeck, Michael Keane.
  • @MrsGrey, To be fair the first line of Kuchinghammer’s comment is accurate.
  • He will still want 15 million quid, allegedly, to leave Utd. Can't see them paying that.

    Guardian says its £7m

Guardian and BBC both say the deal could be revived but not going ahead at the moment

The figures are speculation: around £7m is supposed to be the shortfall in his annual wages from Man U to WHU. The sources saying £14m, are based on his having 2 years of his contract left at MU.

I'd like to see the original source for these quotes. So much destabilising stuff seems to get published these days without a specific reference to what was said, when and to whom. I'm sceptical about the veracity.

    There you go. 😂
Without subtitles he could be saying anything Herbie hahaha

I suspect we're just trying to put pressure on both Maguire and Man Utd to reach an agreement; Maguire knows his England place is at risk if he spends another season on the bench, and Man Utd know that we're offering good money for a player they desperately want rid of. I can see Maguire playing fairly hardball on this though; even if Man Utd have to give half the fee from us to Maguire, they still get £15m or so, and save his wages for 2 years. Everyone can see that's a pretty good deal for a player you don't want.

Unfortunately I think the deal will still happen, but I'd love to see us sign someone else instead.

    Thanks for clearing that up.
  • First thing you need top know about Polish media -they love their darlings. I live in Poland, and if a Premier League club has a Polish player, their match will definitely be shown live (think Gazza's Lazio on Channel 4's Serie A coverage in the '90's.) They start this piece by telling Fabiański that he's a great player, and was nailed on as first choice keeper, so he must have been sorely disappointed at what happened.
Fabiański is clearly disappointed, but mainly he expresses he's hurt at how he has been treated. By his treatment, though, he refers to the method in which he found out about the fact he was not playing. He says he deserved a better place and time for such a conversation than what happened on Thursday. So he is definitely not "blasting" Mayes at being replaced, and we can continue to consider him a thorough professional.
  • So it sounds like he wanted to be taken to one side and have it explained as to why he was being benched as to, probably, hearing about it in front of the squad.
  • Moyes being from Glasgow probably doesn't have too much time for HR protocols and has done his team selection routine in the same way he has done for the past 20 years.
  • TBH, I reckon nothing would have been made of it if Canal+ hadn't contractually obliged him to an interview every week. And they pretty much set the tone.
  • I am not a member of the anti-Maguire brigade, but I can't believe that business has seemingly been put on hold while we await a decision from a 30 year-old haddie. It has been apparent that he thinks he would be wasting his shining talent by slumming it at West Ham.

Meanwhile, with two weeks to go, every day brings yet another name who the club are "interested in", "expressing an interest in", "considering a bid for", "preparing a bid for". End result? None of them sign.

And if West Ham had been offered the chance to sign Haaland last summer, it would presumably have been turned down because of "No Premier League experience".
  • Kevin De Bruyne out for 4 months .oh hold on someone at the West Ham door wonder who that could be =)

Tbh, I don't think that's too much to ask for. Goalkeeper is different to any other position on the field, there's generally no rotation (except maybe for cup competitions), no subbing off if you're tired etc, so, having been our no.1 keeper for 5 seasons I don't think it's unreasonable to feel that Moyes should have had a word with him beforehand. Feels like poor man-management to me.

Noticed Cresswell was back training today in the ‘inside Rush Green’ video. 👀
  • Maguire deal officially OFF - Sky Sports
There was never an agreement between Maguire & West Ham & a move this late in the window would leave MU little time to replace him.
  • "A source close to the player has told Sky Sports News"

    https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12936970/harry-maguire-west-hams-transfer-deal-to-sign-manchester-united-defender-falls-through

Possibly the same "source" that said he was "insulted" by our £20m offer or that he wanted to stay at Man U and fight for his place?

Its pretty clear that Ten Hag doesn't want him but to be honest I don't really care if he joins or not. We're hardly desperate for a new CB
  • 'Never an agreement'?
I thought Sky broke the news about this in the first place.
    Joke.
  • Chelsea have spent over £300million this window on 11 platand are about to get Olise from Palace for £35m.
    Unbelievable.
  • Oh, they have also sold, loaned or released 29 players.
  • Never been more happy not to get a player in
  • "It's thought" a departure this late in the window would have left Manchester United little time to bring in a replacement. They have been trying to move him on for weeks and according to Sky had agreed a deal with West Ham. None of these shenanigans makes sense
  • Soucek has signed a new four-year deal, according to The Athletic.

Next quality DM signed. I don't know what anyone's moaning about! ;-)
  • I think Soucek will have a much better season this year.
  • Turns out Southampton had an £83m centre midfield pairing last season and they still got relegated.
  • I just thought last year that Soucek was off the pace and seemed to be lacking tactical awareness, this is such a confidence game and i am not sure if he felt he was in Rice’s shadow - no matter now but I was delighted to see him back at his best because on Saturday he was really effective in midfield and desperately unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

    Welcome back!
  • I was of the opinion Maguire would have been a good signing for us but I am not unhappy at losing him as he is 30 and there was an element of risk. The biggest loser I feel will be him as at 30 he needs to find regular football and that is not happening at Man Utd, I thought ourselves or Villa were perfect for him.
  • I don’t think we’ve seen the end of it tbh. This happened with Ward-Prowse too.

That said, taking it at face value, I personally thought that Harry Maguire would be a very good signing for us, our defence can often be shaky, and I think that he suits the backs to the walls defending that we often find ourselves doing. Is it too much money? Hard to say because every transfer these days is over priced, so maybe these are just prices now.

I agree he would’ve been a solid signing. In the Craig Dawson mould.
