So seems like two new additions from now on; CB & ST. Johnson may be used as LB cover for Emerson & Coufal/Kehrer for RB. This is according to westhamonline.

Alternatively, there are still links online to Ian Maatsen, and also to Filip Kostic, who we were after last summer but went to Juventus.
  • Maatsen looks like he's going to be a part of Chelsea going forward

He's been used on the wing in preseason and against Liverpool, and there are reports Cucurella may be going out on loan, given Chillwells injury history they'd be silly not to extend his deal

Maybe we have a chance, but unlikely

Romano linkng us to Kudus, he's a player that looks exciting and actually has pace we are desperately in need of

Lingard training with West Ham. Short-term deal not been ruled out by club (Sky Sports).

Might be mad but I’d take him on a one-year deal. Replacement for Lanzini.

    Please no

Lingard was lucky he hit a 12 game run of form with us that made everyone forget how he's a player severely lacking at this level
  • What Moyes said in said in his post-match press conference:
"It was a brilliant goal. Jarrod is becoming our major goalscorer. There's a lot of talk about needing to buy a centre-forward but I'm going to see if Jarrod could do the job. He's got the instincts and the sharpness. Hull played him at centre-forward so it's not me trying to be a genius."

This sounds suspiciously like Moyes giving up on ever signing a CF. Why mess with one of the few bits of the team that is actually working? In part Bowen scores because he's often up against a FB instead of a CB, and a CF is around to distract the rest of the defence. Whilst I suspect, given the alternatives of Ings and Antonio, that Bowen could do as well as them, we've then got to find a Bowen replacement on the right who not only matches his goal output but also his defensive contribution as well.

Moyes getting letters from the bank because of how overdrawn he is, despite a deposit on 7th June.
  • Or mind games, to bring down extortionate valuations of strikers we may want.
  • We've barely even been linked with strikers though, despite having known for months (we really must have) that Scamacca wanted away.

One of the few mentioned recently is Elye Wahi, but there's a bad vibe about him from some alleged incidents in his past and that doesn't sound to me like someone Moyes would sign.
  • Reports that Lingard is training with us 😱😱😱, you can just see it, we lose Paqueta and get Lingard in 2 seasons too late.
  • On a free Lingard would not be the worst signing. He already knows a lot of the players and club. Obviously Moyes likes him. He would do a job of being that ball carrier too (which Loftus Cheek and Traore could've done if we'd bothered with either). He's a Vlasic replacement bascially and I mentioned before that I do think he'd step up for us as opposed to how he played for Forest.

Kudus is sought after by some big name clubs so if we got him it'd be an impressive bit of business. We should strike will the Irons hot :) (whether Paqueta goes this window or not, he'll probably go next)
  • Depends how much Lingard wants, reportedly on £115k at Forest but if he's prepared to take a cut then he might fit into Moyes's system
  • I dont thinkhis bargaining power is anywhere near the same. He could easily be given a 1 year deal and have to play well for an extended deal
  • If there is space in the squad & he accepts low wages, I don’t really see what harm a one-year deal does.
  • Squad dynamic, maybe? It was reported (can't remember the article, one of those long Athletic ones) that Moyes didn't hide that he was especially fond of him and he was certainly given plenty of minutes, even when he was having very little impact towards the end of the season. He then plays around with coming to us for the next two seasons, during which he doesn't play very much, or very well, at all. I don't know how I'd feel about him.

He was brilliant with us but he also joined a team that was already doing very well. He added something but he didn't transform the team and I never liked how it was portrayed that way. The team was around top 4 when he arrived and they went on to a Europa semi-final after he left and did pretty well in the league that season as well.

You'd have to trust the management on this signing and of course hope it all works out if we did get him but I'm very put off by him.
  • Lingard rejected us twice in two years. Let him find a club in the championship his level.
  • buffy, DM needs to be more like Harry R, in that if he was, we would have made more effort to sign the likes of Bissouma or Maddison who for a couple of reasons some fans didn't want. Waits for the where is the proof we didn't question. Don't have a problem with signing a player who hasn't got a clean rap sheet we signed Di Canio didn't we?
  • Lingard on form is a class act IMO…
  • In theory his position is as it was first time around in that he has to show he still has it. However I would hate to sell Paquetta and be told we have take Lingard as his replacement. As a squad player who will get chances to break into the side on a reasonable wage would be acceptable but not Paquetta's replacment, Lanzini's replacement.
  • I don't know whether or not Lingard signing is being considered.

But, I like the idea that when a former player is without a club, and is asking around for a bit of help/support while they get fit and hopefully continue their career, we (manager? board? players?) say Yeah, mate, come on over and train with us.

    #soppy
  • I also like that

If he hadn't messed us around so much I'd agree with you, but under his particular circumstances I'd have told him to train where he feels valued, at Forest.

  • Not sure he messed us around. He signed on loan, was excellent, then assessed his options & decided to join Forest. Perfectly entitled to do that.
  • edited August 2023
He spent the whole summer after the loan "assessing his options" meaning we bought Vlasic as there was nothing else left on the shelf by the time we finally got a decision from him, and then he again took nearly all last summer teasing with stupid Tiktok videos before again deciding late on not to come to us.

He completely messed us around imo, his right to act that way of course, but if someone messes me around not once but twice, I don't go doing him any favours.
  • Ex - Paqueta likely to leave, Man City are preparing a bid that is likely to be close to our valuation of him.
    Interest in Kieran Tierney.
  • Interest in Kieren Tierney? From who, the physio bench? Hahaha

Based on recent transfers, we should say no to anything below £100million
  • Definitely a Kudus push required then
