Konstantinos Mavropanos, 25yo CB, 19 caps for Greece, 32 starts last season out of 34 he was available, missed 2 games suspended and 4 injured.
8 appearances for Arsenal 2017-18/2018-19, most notable moment was getting a straight red against Leicester after 15 minutes for trying to de-bag Iheanacho
Didn't rate him at Arsenal, but he was very young for a centre back when he was there. I don't know if he, for me, troubles the first choice pairing. If I was a betting man, I would suggest that this is a move designed to make Man Utd sweat and push the Maguire deal through.
So looks like we are signing him for £15m, so a budget deal which frees up an extra £15m for another area that was originally going to be spent on Maguire.
I’m less bothered about Paqueta. I’ve said for a while that for this club to achieve it’s potential, it needs to start selling players at a profit that can be reinvested. It’s the only way to compete unless you have endless pits of money. If we sell Paqueta for £90m that’s a fantastic bit of business, adding to the £100m sale of Rice. Ideally we’d have longer to invest it but this is how clubs outside the top 6 get better & into a position to compete over a more sustained period of time.

Whilst I agree, I do think that we shouldn't be selling our assets in one go. I think you let Paqueta go next summer for £85m, the season after hopefully someone like Kudus (if we sign him this summer) goes for £60m+. I think you need to pace these things, and not have a massive amount of turnover in one go.
We also don't have the scouting and transfer structure in place to realise that as a model at the moment.
I hope we'll get there but in the last few years we have signed zero gems and sold them for profit. It's not like Paqueta was a brilliant piece of scouting. He was a Brazil starter and would have gone to a bigger club last year IMO, had he been available earlier in the window.
It doesn’t matter. Point is we signed Paqueta for £50m & if he goes this window we are likely making a £40m profit in less than a year. Doesn’t matter if he was not an unknown or brilliant bit of scouting, that was a good transfer decision (whoever sanctioned it) & leads to longer term sustainability.
Ideally you don’t lose them in one go but you have to cash in when the suitors present themselves, look at Brighton this window.
It does matter, though, because with the current scouting network I don't have confidence we'll be able to replace him with somebody of a similar quality, even with more money. £80m players don't join us even if we have £80m to spend.
It probably matters less for Brighton or Brentford or even Villa now, but it does matter to us.
Yeah it doesn’t guarantee success but logically if you don’t have endless money to pump into the club & are relying on revenue, there will always be a limit for reaching the top 6 consistently.
They’re using every loophole possible to avoid FFP repercussions. Spreading a £90M transfer fee over a 9 year contract to amortise it at £10M each year is going to fall foul eventually especially if the receiving club wants the fee up front or over a couple of years.

Wasn't that loophole blocked? Contract as long as you like but amortisation over 5 years max?
EUFA have but apparently the PL’s rules are somewhat less severe. Chelsea are not in any European competitions this season so probably won’t be subject to EUFA sanctions so believe they can continue as hitherto. Sales and leavers go through straight away which is why they’re shifting out as many as they can to offset the physical money they’re paying out.

Paqueta - likely to stay. Wahi - no interest. Mavropanos - smokescreen for Maguire. Lingard - 3 month deal possible, with option to extend to end of season.
Paqueta - Great news but that is probably only due to Manchester City having a value for him that is lower than what we will accept. Wahi - Who are we going to buy to replace Antonio then? Mavropanos - I hope we aren't still after Maguire! Lingard - Why?
I wish someone could actually bring some news of who we are going after not dispel rumours about the reported ones. Not a pop at the messenger may I point out. ok

Very offensive minded, maybe too much so, but he's got incredible potential and he'll be cheap and one for the future
We should be all over this
But with Moyes we won't be, he's not a 30 year old English man
What are Chelsea smoking?
If he's able to fetch that on the open market, we can get at least that for Johnson.
How Chelsea are cooking the books

It's especially an issue with BBC links.

Wonder if they'll still let him leave after his bright start this year
