We have a left back that has effectively gone on strike but no replacement in place, meaning our left back options going into the new season are Emerson and an out-of-position Johnson.
Cornet was a LB/LWB until he joined Burnley in 2021
Ings was Scamaccas replacement? I guess it is another forward that doesnt suit Moyes tactics. So you could be right
He was in a sense. He was signed when Scamacca was injured and it seemed a sensible decision at the time. I think his limited impact has been more down to him playing badly/making bad decisions than Moyes. And maybe they even sensed back then that Scamacca wanted out?
Outcast, Playing him in the wrong line up doesn't really help him does it and that is on David Moyes?
What’s the right line up? Two up front? How many teams play two up front these days?
He can also make the right runs and shoot and pass at the right time. Plenty of times he’s had space and he’s been the problem imo. Hopefully with a full pre-season with the team he can start fresh now because there’s no doubt he’s got the ability.
Moyes confirmed Scamacca simply did not want to be in England anymore, even confirming that when he was injured, he insisted on returning to Italy for his rehab when the club wanted him to stay with them.
This Maguire situation is starting to look a lot like the Lingard fiasco last year. I have a horrible feeling Moyes is nervously pacing the floor hoping the bloke will say yes to him. If he doesn’t think we’re good enough for him move on.
West Ham are waiting for a decision from England defender Harry Maguire about whether he will join them after the Hammers agreed a £30m fee for the 30-year-old with Manchester United. (Mail)
Lukerz, I know it’s only the mail but this was at 2pm today.
Be interesting how quick Spurs will be to replace Kane wonder if they have someone lined up .unlike us regards Rice
If they don't try to sign Randal Kolo Muani I'll be amazed. I've seen us linked with him too, and I'd love it if we signed him, but I don't think he'd come to us anyway.
Been thinking; is Ward-Prowse Part 2 of the Rice replacement, or is he Lanzini's replacement? And whichever one it is, does it mean that we still need another midfielder to replace the other?
If so, that's one midfielder needed on top of JWP. Two, if Paqueta goes. Three, if we're going to replace Downes. It's been consistently reported that we also want a LB, LW and a ST.
So potentially we're looking at nine new faces. Eight of which have yet to be signed. Possibly more if anyone else (i.e. Antonio) goes.
And there's only 20 days of the window left. Could be a crazy few weeks coming up.
My current best feasible (yeah, I know, it really isn't) scenario sees us with 5 new midfielders 😂🤣😂.
Yeah, my numbers are assuming Soucek and Fornals are staying.
Just seems mad that after last summer, whereby Moyes was complaining about having to bring in so many new players, we're on course to possibly bring in even more this time round.
Rumours that Chelsea are getting Caicedo and Olise, meaning Gallagher will leave in this window.
Ask City for £60m plus Palmer for Paqueta, then give the bulk of the £60m to Chelsea for Gallagher and Maatsen?
We've spent, or are due to spend, £95m of the Rice money on Alvarez, JWP and Maguire, meaning we have £10m of that left, plus Scamacca and Vlasic money (£35m) giving us another £45m to spend on another midfielder and a striker.
I’ll be very surprised if we finish the window with 8/9 new signings. And I don’t really want us to.
It's almost inevitable though. We're looking likely to lose three of last summers signings for a start. Plus two are needed to cover Rice's attributes. So that's five just to stand still.
Had we kept Rice, Paqueta, Downes and Scamacca, we'd only arguably need three or four (CB, Cresswell upgrade, Soucek upgrade and RM cover).
Alvarez and JWP between them are a good Rice replacement IMO. Lanzini doesn’t need replacing really, he almost never played by the end.
Assuming Paqueta stays and JWP signs, our starting middle three is Alvarez, JWP and Paqueta. I'd be happy with that.
Behind them we'd have Soucek, Fornals and Coventry. Not sure that's enough quality, to be honest. So I'm with alderz; one needed for depth (e.g. McTominay, Fofana) and, if Paqueta goes, a more attacking midfielder (e.g. Gallagher, Kudus).
City don’t overpay unless they’re dead set. They walked away from Rice, and I don’t think they’ll pay what we want for Paqueta. Unless he throws a strop, which it seems he won’t, then I think he’ll stay.
This is where I'm at atm, based on the latest rumour that a Saudi club is in for Benrahma.
Admittedly Everton are in for Ekitike and Samardzic was on the verge of signing for Inter before an as yet unresolved issue, but they're technically still available. Bear in mind though that you'd expect Steidten to pull a few rabbits out of the hat, so probably some cheaper options out there, but that is for a net spend of about £30m (gross spend of £310m 😱😱😱).
With how versatile Johnson is, (although admittedly he tends to play down the right rather than the left as I've got him) it wouldn't be the end of the world if we had to let Antonio go, giving us Bowen, Johnson and Cornet as CF options on top of Ekitike, Ings and Mubama; I'm looking for a fast and fluid front 3. Originally had Gnonto in instead of Palmer, but it looks like the latter is more likely.
