Maguire and JWP have got to acclimatise to West Ham before they can play for us so based on that I really don't know when Alvarez will be able to be selected.
Alvarez will be bedded in slowly but I’d expect Maguire and JWP to come in immediately if they’re signed in time. And I think one of them will be made captain, too.
So if Alvarez isn't match fit, and JWP isn't registered in time, and Downes is going to Southampton, we're looking at Soucek, Paqueta and Fornals in midfield against Bournemouth with Coventry the only option off the bench.
Presumably Downes won't actually go until JWP is in, though?
No, but I doubt we'll play him on Saturday if the move is imminent. Not sure whether the two moves are officially linked, but I don't know that Southampton would be happy to risk an injury if Downes is their JWP replacement.
I’ve said this before, but IMO the likes of SSN are used by clubs to unsettle players. They believe they have an “exclusive” , and don’t seem to realise they are just being used. I don’t claim to know any more, but until a deal is signed you can’t really believe what the ITK/experts on Sky are saying. ⚒
I mean, it's C&H so who knows, but this piece is claiming we may not actually sign JWP 🤔
"Our key source told Claret and Hugh exclusively a few minutes ago: “We’ll sign Ward-Prowse or the Scottish midfielder from Man Utd in next 72 hours, but sadly not Friday in time to get either registered for the game at Bournemouth.”
If Paqueta wants to leave, then fine. We may get £90 million for him which would be amazing business for once.
I agree, but with the very heavy caveat that we replace him.
I think the best long term replacement has just gone to Bournemouth. I think they've got a bargain in Alex Scott for £25m and I suspect he'll go for a lot more in a few year's time; imo he's exactly the sort of signing we should be making, especially as we're about to make an already old squad even older by signing Maguire and JWP. We need some younger players to balance this, and Scott would have been a very good signing imo.
It will be an interesting season to watch regard this window. Will Maguire be Hammer of the year? will Alveraz prove a good buy? will Scamacca score a hatful for Atlanta? will Alex Scott prove a bargain or struggle in the Premiership? and will Rice turn Arsenal into Champions? And finally will Paquetta play as he did early seaosn and make us wish we had snapped City's hand off or will he become as talismanic as Payet was now he has settled in?

Suggestions that Soucek has signed a new 4 year contract, and that City have offered £88m or thereabouts for Paqueta. Not sure how reliable the source for the latter is, but surely we have to accept it (if it's genuine) rather than have an unhappy player a la Payet or Arnautovic. Would mean that of the midfield 3 from last season we'll have sold the best two and given a new contract to the worst one 😂🤣😂. Only West Ham.

Buffy what’s your views on the age of the squad? Only you’ve not really mentioned it much.🤷🏻♂️😉
I know we cant buy everyone but you think it highly likely that people like Scott will have excellent resale value. Players like Maatsen and Harwood Bellis pretty much the same. I have nothing really against the likes of JWP but I find it disappointing out mandate isnt to acquire/nurture young talent and when they ultimately leave at least we have a great chance of making decent money on them
I wonder if they are having conversations within a Paquetta deal about taking Kalvin Phillips as part of the deal. Perhaps riskier than JWP but potentially much better.

I shudder to think what value they'll put on Phillips, and, after the season he's had it will be hugely too much regardless of what they paid for him. Huge no from me, but seeing as we're already apparently signing the two players I least wanted out of all those we've been linked to (Maguire and JWP), it's nailed on that we'll take him in a deal that values him at £50m 😭😭😭.

@OCS, I heard earlier Gnonto's representatives had advised him not to go to Everton as it was the wrong move for him. Can't trust DM with any more money as he has already gone for his tried & trusted choices. As Scamacca has gone and Paqueta is likely to as well there should be a trade off and Tim Steidten should be allowed to bring in a couple of his preferred choices. McSauce & Martial come on how much money does our manager have to give the red mob in Manchester? They weren't even regulars for them last season but of course will nonetheless be valued highly by ETH. I heard that both Scott and Borges were put off West Ham due to the non positive vibes DM was giving off and there are still more of our players who want to leave according to various ITK's!

SKY reporting JWP is having his medical.
As in having it now? Some saying it was tonight, some saying tomorrow. If it's happening now, you'd think they'd be able to register him by midday tomorrow.

Also discussions around Martial.
