It's funny to me that Jurgen Klopp said how there was no way Liverpool could afford Jude Bellingham, and they are now dropping more than the Bellingham fee on Caicedo.
Admittedly he did say that before the Saudis came in with silly money for Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

OCS, I don’t know what our scout in South America does as we have missed out on several good young talents from there recently. Didn’t Rob Newman set up some kind of scouting network in Brazil still yet to see any evidence of that bearing fruit?
As did every other scout at every other Prem team.
So Spurs delaying Kane's departure to Munich makes it unlikely he will be registered in time for the German Super Cup tomorrow so putting the kibosh on him winning his first trophy.
@IronHerb, I wasn’t just referring to Brighton re finding talent from South America as other teams are doing so, 👍. It’s really so Daniel Levy to agree a fee then want more money.
I reckon James Ward-Prowse will be officially signed in the next hour, even if an announcement isn't made before then. The registration deadline to play tomorrow is midday, so I reckon there will be a rush to get it done in time for that.

It’s whether we register him ahead of actually getting all medical tests back, which is a risk. Only way it will be done in time.
I think it's fair to say that this window has been a bit of a pot-mess so far.
We go into the first game of the season with the first part of Rice's replacement signed but not ready to play, and the second half not yet done.
Despite being heavily linked with a return to Italy all summer, we haven't got a replacement for Scamacca, nor do we appear close to getting one.
Our best midfielder is being linked with a move to City, and there are question marks as to whether he'll play tomorrow.
We have a left back that has effectively gone on strike but no replacement in place, meaning our left back options going into the new season are Emerson and an out-of-position Johnson.
Our manager admitted last year that we weren't ready for the start of the season. It would appear that we're in exactly the same position this time round.
There's time to save the window yet; I'm encouraged by the links to Maatsen and I think JWP will prove to be a good signing. But I also think there'll be a few more blows (Paqueta) before we reach September, and the fact that we've left everything so late again (even JWPs medical) is incredibly frustrating.
It's not been great and I wish we had it all sorted by now, but for me it's far more important what the squad looks like at the end of the window than the first game of the season.
It would be nice to have everything sorted now but we'll be playing a minimum 46 games this year, so bigger picture it's more important to get it right.
If we finish the window having signed Alvarez, JWP, Maguire, a striker and a LB (if Cresswell leaves) - and if Paqueta isn't sold - I'd rate that as a pretty good window.

Yup, agreed; that's why I was conscious of saying so far.
My issue is that we're potentially starting the season off on the back foot, which I don't think was necessary given we had a head-start on the Rice situation and probably knew that Scamacca would be going. We haven't been pro-active at all and I don't feel like we learnt anything from last season's poor start.
The window so far is a 1/10 for me, and that's only because we've signed Alvarez. I'm hoping that by 2nd September that's up to at least an eight.
Not that I'm one to revel in Liverpool's misfortune (I am, I really don't like them (sorry, Baz)), but FabRom is reporting that Caicedo has told them that he only wants Chelsea.
At least Klopp can go back to saying he wouldn't pay £100m for a player now that player has rejected him.

Cornet was a LB/LWB until he joined Burnley in 2021

I did think about Cornet, but Moyes hasn't used him there at all. Given Cresswell was out of the picture for Rennes and Leverkusen, Moyes didn't give Cornet anytime in that position. I think he would have done (or at least common sense would have dictated that he did) if he saw Cornet as an option there.

Tbh I think we're in a worse position wrt being ready for the new season than we were last summer.

I think our ceiling is about 6, (or maybe 7 if we sign exceptional players), given how late we're doing any business; it has to be factored in that we'll have basically sacrificed 10% or so of our league season even if we do good business between now and the end of the window.
There has to be another CM coming in imo, that 5 includes a player (Soucek) who really wasn't great last season (although he may well benefit from having Alvarez behind him this season) and Fornals who has rarely been used centrally by Moyes.

Ings was Scamaccas replacement? I guess it is another forward that doesnt suit Moyes tactics. So you could be right

Spursy or nasty?

So in other words we don't have to let him go, but talks are ongoing over a loan which may become permanent.
So surely, if we're willing to let Downes go, we must be looking at another midfielder coming in?
Alvarez, JWP, Soucek, Paqueta and Fornals. Is that enough for a 46+ game season?
