  • buffy, Someone said on social media earlier on that ...

Honestly. That's like saying 'while I was in the queue at the post office, I could hear a bloke near the front saying that ....'

With about as much credibility, imo!!
  • buffy, Someone said on social media earlier on that the owners don't want a Womens team in the WSL which I admit can't be proved but it does look a bit like a Sully special where finishing one place above the relegation zone would be deemed a success.

Sully must have been gutted when we came 8th.
  • MrsG, It was a comment on Twitter from a concerned fan of the Women’s team. Apologies but I am unable to paste it onto here even if that is possible. By the way the bloke in my local post office was saying he heard Harvey Barnes milkman say he might to going to Aston Villa. 😉

Now I know you're making it up, who has a milkman these days?

  • Who is this geezer I keep seeing us being heavily linked with today?
  • Arsenal's Portuguese left-back Nuno Tavares, 23, is the subject of interest from West Ham. (iNews - subscription required)

26yo Swiss international DM/CM (49 caps), joined Juventus from Borussia Mönchengladbach (146 apps inc Champions League and Europa League)) January 2022, scored on his debut but for some reason was deemed surplus to requirements after half a season (just 15 apps)

Was on loan at Chelsea last season with an option to buy but spent more time on the bench than he did on the pitch, only made 11 appearances

The I (ex-Independent) reckons we're after Arsenal's 23yo LB/LWB Nuno Tavares, signed from Benfica July 2021 but spent last season on loan at Marseille (39 apps, 6 goals)

L'Equipe claimed Arsenal sent him out on loan because Arteta was "often annoyed with his behaviour" while RMC Sport said that Marseille decided against making the loan permanent "due to his lack of consistency and attitude"

He got sent off in January against Montpellier after giving away a penalty in the 87th minute, picking up a first yellow for kicking a player and a second yellow for arguing with the ref about it. VAR told the ref to have another look and he replaced the two yellows with a straight red, getting a three match ban instead of one

In April he was sent home from training for "lack of effort" (L'Equipe)

At both Arsenal and Marseille he seems to have started well then dropped off in the second half of the season

Sounds like we should avoid but maybe Moyes can handle him
  • He sounds like the complete antithesis of a Moyes player.

I'd be staggered if we were in for him based on his character alone.
  • Wonder if Tierney is worth a bid?
  • We already have a LB/LWB in Emerson. Wouldn't getting another one hinder Oliver Scarles progress over the next year or so? Don't want an Arsenal cast off anyway as our new DoF will have a better option I am sure if we do actually need a new LB.
  • Anyone we buy will be another clubs cast off.
  • I do get what you mean.
But then if it’s someone like Barnes for example (going by linked players) then that’s not a cast off imo as Leicester wouldn’t wanna lose him.
  • It that I think Barnes is necessarily needed.
Other areas should be a priority imo

A cast off is an unwanted player. Tavares, one would assume, is not wanted at Arsenal, so they'd be happy to bin him off.

Or can we claim Arsenal are buying our £105m cast off? 🤔

I get that but having Barnes on one side and Bowen on the other is pretty hard to not get excited by.
  • There are players nearing the end of their contracts who want to move on and players in clubs recently relegated looking to move on.
Tierney played 27 PL games last season so hardly a cast off.
  • Who said Tierney was a cast off? I assumed Fortune was talking about Tavares.
  • Thanks OCS I was. Players who their current clubs would prefer to keep & would almost certainly still be in their starting line up I don’t reckon are a cast off. 👍. Some clubs may need to sell to balance their books or to meet FFP. Because we are West Ham we rarely buy players who are not in the no longer required category that is why we are linked with the likes of Maguire. I keep saying, & I hope I am right, that Tim Steidten will have a few players who most won’t have heard of but who are real talents that is why he is called the “Pearl Diver”.
  • Fortunes comment followed the Lukerz comment referencing Tierney. I assumed Fortune was referring to that. Apparently not.
