Ex has been pretty insistent that Moyes wants a left-back. Whether he knows that as fact is, of course, a matter of opinion.
I think he does, personally; maybe not as big a priority as a striker, but I think we'll get one before the window closes.
Even if we ignore Cresswell's aberrations in the EL, he was culpable for a number of goals we conceded last season, and was clearly targeted by oppositions. He needs upgrading, IMO. Masuaku isn't the answer, because a) he's a defensive liability and b) has a long-standing knee problem.
I get the feeling Moyes isn't too worried about LB
As much as it's clear he sees a lot he likes in Cresswell, for a manager who seems to prioritise a solid defence I honestly can't believe Moyes will be blind to Cresswell's defensive frailties this season. Masuaku shouldn't even enter the conversation for LB, apart from his injuries he just isn't good enough to play LB for a team in the top half of the PL.
Apart from being extremely disappointed if we don't get a LB who is starting ahead of Cresswell by October, I'd also be very surprised.
Although I don't particularly rate Johnson at LB as he's even less effective going forward than he is at RB, it's getting to the stage where I'd prefer him to start ahead of Cresswell.
Summer 2021 Transfers: Zouma, Vlasic, Dawson Loans: Areola, Kral
Winter 2022 Nothing
Summer: 2022 Transfers: Aguerd, Downes, Areola
He has never added more than five players, at least one was on loan here already and at least one was a loan deal. Six or seven permanent signings would be completely out of character for Moyes
Domino effect about to be felt maybe. City have announced the signing of Argentinian forward Julian Alvarez, which means they can now sanction the sale of Sterling to Chelsea, who can then allow Broja to leave...?
The squad WHU listed above is twenty at best so unless we are going to give the youth a chance, unlikely due to David Moyes appearing to be reluctant to do so, it still needs five new additions to the first team. Maybe Mr Warburton could have a word with him & show him the error in his ways?
IronHerb, So you are telling me he doesn't have any dialogue with his coaching team? Warburton could tell him about what type of character Calvin Bassey is, who would be a good replacement for Cresswell.

And yet Man City had a squad of 21 players.... the team that won the Prem and got to a semi-final of the champions league
Do wonder if any team actually has 25 senior players on the register that actually play
WHU, I would be content if we had a squad of 21 if it was similar in quality to Manchester City.
Benrahma or more probably Vlasic could be leaving so the number goes down & Randolph isn't settled. Didn't he want to leave in January but DM wouldn't allow it?

Warburton left Rangers February 2017 while Bassey was still with Leicester City's kids
Ooh, I love a fact.👏 I still don’t get the Cresswell negativity,I thought for the last two seasons he’s been a better than average premier league full back, but hey, what do I know? We do need a striker though to take the weight off of Mickey but they’re not that easy to find are they?

Alvarez was confirmed in January but spent the rest of the season on loan with River. Dominos won’t start until Sterling moves.
Google reporting: The Irons have been linked with the Denmark international full back Joakim Maehle and as per the latest report, the London-based club are willing to offer £13million to sign the player in the ongoing transfer window... Is this a comon rumour? He appears to be a right back by the report I've seen.
yoyo, I believe he can play on either side right or left , see Josh Doig is set to leave & is linked with a move to Bologna to replace Hickey. Another good young left back who will likely increase in value like Hickey has.
I just read the Sky article on Danny Drinkwater. My first thought, if asked about Drinkwater would've been 'I'd rather stay thirsty, thanks'.
However, considering a few things mentioned in the article (circs., home truths, struggles etc) and that he got his fitness and desire back playing 32 games for Reading last season, I actually thought he may not be the worst free transfer central midfielder we could get. He's certainly got a pedigree, experience plus that hunger to make up for the last 5 years at Chelsea.
I know it'll be easy to say no, but I changed my mind quite a bit on him after reading. Outside of the free transfer perhaps we could get him (initially at least) on a low/reasonable wage?

He played as a left wing back in the Euros, I think, but is right footed.

Think this is the guy we were linked with last month. He supposedly plays on the left for Atalanta, but is listed as either right or left.
Justin Kluivert is another winger we are linked to. Another player supposedly available around the 13M mark. Is that what we have left? That and Jesse's wages which Moyes has hidden under his bed...
The five subs rule means that Moyes could (that's a conditional) take more chances with less known players, by giving them 15 minutes in games. Will the old dog learn another new trick??

You forgot c) He's not very good.

Because of the lack of signings in previous windows.
All IMO, of course.

ASLEF, Beaten by facts again.

But the important thing is that Sterling goes to Chelsea, as far as the Broja deal goes.
