Transfer Speculation

  • We have had to borrow money to keep the club afloat, my guess at 1-2% and then lent to the club at 5-6% , no proof just a healthy/unhealthy dose of cynicism
  • it just shows how much we need new owners that they are borrowing these huge sums when you look at what has happened in the last few seasons.

We have reduced the wage bill massively over the last few seasons with the amount of high earners out the door. Our squad has literally being culled all the way back that we don't even have 25 registered players without registering youth players some who have never even played a league minute, we even have 4 goalkeepers in the registered team !
  • Apparently the David’s borrowed 100 million for that reason so surely we should have a transfer kitty it’s not like you pay it all upfront 😂😂
  • Goes back to the point I made previously I am going to be interested in how much other teams pay out in this “reduced” funds next transfer window compared with our outlay because they have all had the same problems as us.
  • I think the amount spent in January by Prem clubs shows Covid is not just a West Ham problem, and I think we'll see that in the summer.
  • From the Mail

"the club are unable to commit to the player's demands for a four-year contract worth in excess of £100,000-a-week"

    It actually sounds plausible

Obviously if Anderson or Yarmalenko leave that should give us a bit of wage bill wiggle room
  • Maybe I'm missing something but I'm not really sure what the confusion is?

We were in the red for the 18/19 season where we invested heavily (both fees, wages and sign on bonuses)

We invested again in the 19/20 season on Haller, Fornals, Bowen, Soucek etc.... so we would've made a loss regardless....then COVID kicked in

Is that right? Surely the clubs with the biggest turnovers are going to be hit hardest as their income will be more impacted while their high wage bills remains pretty constant.

    Not so sure

Because technically the biggest thing that affected them was loss of matchday revenue

And while their loss is going to be bigger than ours (although we do have a 60k stadium) , their matchday revenues make up a much smaller % of their total revenue

Like all of Man City, Man united, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal get in excess of £30mil from shirt sponsors, think ours is about £8mil (may be wrong)
  • But don't they get £3-4m per home game compared to our £500k?
  • Ironherb, so if that is correct can we feel concerned if they spend more money than us in the next window? Aston Villa seem able to find the money to buy some quality players!
  • I'm not concerned what they do. Villa bought Watkins and Martinez, we bought Coufal and Soucek.
  • The Villa deals could end up totalling £53 million ours total less than half that amount. It is relevant to us playing the we can’t afford to buy the players we desperately need card.
  • Slavia Prague's 19-year-old Senegalese forward Abdallah Sima, who is a target for Arsenal and West Ham, is keen on a move to the Premier League. (Standard)
  • Eurosport reckon we're looking at Nemanja Matic and Phil Jones although they admit wages might be a problem. More loan deals?

Eurosport also linked us with Atalanta’s Columbian 30yo CF Duvan Zapata (18 goals in 46 apps this season)
  • Matic & Jones. Just WHY?
Zapata. We could have signed him years ago. Atalanta are in the CL next season & he doesn’t fit Mr Moyes “Red Bull” project.
Let’s go for Sima, Hlozek or Daka.
  • Hate to see Jones in our shirt
  • LINGARD TO FACILITATE SANCHO SWOOP?

Manchester United will offer Jesse Lingard to Borussia Dortmund as a makeweight in a deal to sign Jadon Sancho, according to The Sun.

Lingard’s sensational form while on loan at West Ham has seen his value increase and he could be used to drive down Dortmund’s £100million price tag for Sancho.
  • On the one hand Dortmund are currently 4th with two games left and the last time they failed to qualify for Europe was 2009

On the other we've already discussed whether Lingard's family in Manchester might be a factor in his moving to London so moving to Germany would be an even bigger step for him

    And its the Sun
  • Dortmund won the German cup last night
    Has no relevance
    Just wanted to say
    🏆⚫️🟡
  • Lingard doesn't fit the Dortmund model. They buy young at a relatively low price and sell on later for a big profit.
  • No but arnie does according to sky sports newspapers, he saying he will watch him in the euros as he liked managing him as it was a challenge at times, fits the project perfectly 32 year old mercenary, playing out of China for the money and a little disruptive, sign him up but not for me even on a free
  • David Luiz is leaving Arsenal on a free in the summer.

The good news is he told Portuguese newspaper Record that he's already spoken to Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira about returning. Other options are Lazio or the MLS, just as long as he doesn't come here!

    ---------------------------------------

What Moyes actually said about Arnie at this week's press conference (from Claret & Hugh)
Marko was great for me. I loved having him at the club because I liked the challenge of trying to manage him. He’s someone who maybe wasn’t easy at times but I actually quite enjoyed it.

I would never rule Marko out but I’m trying to move forward. I’m trying to build towards a new team, a new West Ham. I’m trying not to go back if I can help it. It’s not to say that I would never go there, I would do of course.

We might get a chance to see how Marko plays in the Euros. I hope I do because I really like him.

I think he’s a great boy to work with. If you tweak the right knobs with him at the right time you can get him working. I enjoyed working with him and he scored goals for me.

Let’s be fair, we moved him to a centre forward which at that stage in his career was probably a blessing in disguise. Maybe Marko would like to come back but he’s on a lot of money in China so I’m not sure we’d be able to afford that.

I think " I’m trying to build towards a new team, a new West Ham. I’m trying not to go back if I can help it" says it all
  • Countered by "I’m trying not to go back if I can help it. It’s not to say that I would never go there, I would do of course."
  • I read that is Sully wants him I don't but I will keep options open
  • A move backwards if we get Arnie.
  • Ironic I’m sure either Marco or his brother said he wanted to play in Europe, a big NO from me today and forever
  • I can't see him coming back here
  • I'm gonna leave it to Moyes.
  • West Ham are favourites to sign West Brom's 28-year-old English keeper Sam Johnstone, who has also been linked with Tottenham. (Football Insider)
