  • Koeman does

In spite of his other struggles van gaal did at Man U

    Southamptons managers seem to

Meanwhile at West Ham our youngest academy player playing reasonably regularly is noble

    Pretty damning imo

There is loads of evidence out there that highlights the fact that changing managers regularly has no long term benefits, and that holding onto a manager has a better long term impact upon the team.

Yes, Tore was a mistake, clearly. However, Ferguson went after Veron, Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson, etc. All managers make misjudgements sometimes, and I would still weigh up the signings he has made in his favour rather than against. This is still the guy who signed Payet, Lanzini, Ogbonna, Antonio & Ayew.

Bilic has been here less than two seasons, if there are no players in the U23s good enough to warrant a starting place in the first team then its down to whoever has been responsible for recruiting youngsters and for the last three years that has been Terry Westley.

Ferguson had Trophy's and a mountain of money though so has more leeway. Slaven has neither and unlike Man Utd who is never really at risk of relegation at any point, West Ham are and have been a few times recently, so when transfers windows are bad... they really are bad and stick out a lot.

No doubt its not Slaven's sole fault that the player doesn't adapt or play to the standard they thought they signed them for. I don't think switching manager would be a good idea and giving Slaven another season makes sense, but imo he has to get it right this summer or he might end up on the scrap heap next summer. If the club want to push in a European direction say in the next 3 - 5 years. Then anything other than a top 10 finish should be considered a failure and that's what he will be judged on at the end of the day not on "injuries and whatever else that prevented him to get there."
  • Ferguson also had the biggest expectation and pressure from the biggest club in Britain
  • Sorry he is insistent on playing completely out of position even when injuries and suspensions come into play. That doesn't send any sort of positive message at all.

Alderz, ayew a good signing?? For me the jury is still out.

Not saying chopping and changing is the way to go but insisting on keeping someone for a few years regardless is a flawed argument imo
  • Ayew will come good imo

He's a poacher and just what we've needed, 20m was probably too much but the Daves got it on the never never so nothing to worry about in the bigger scope of things
  • Izwt

Oddly if he does come vaguely good I don't think £20m will be too much in today's market

Has anyone seen the number £40-£50m plus fees being banded about for players who aren't exactly household names??

Even £30m will be a massive deal for us. I worry as to what quality of player we can get even at that price. We will really have our work cut out this summer. Scary stuff indeed.
  • Look on the bright side Mrs Grey, opinion presented as fact is a step in the right direction during these times when lies presented as fact are becoming increasingly common.
  • Note they haven't opened a comments section for that article and if you click on the journos name he writes an awful lot of articles about Spurs. A pre-match wind up?
  • A result against Spurs and Liverpools (draws would be a result) will put a gloss on the end of the season.

I thing Bilic is safe either way but it would help....

I think he has had a lot to deal with this season and has done so in a dignified and measured way.

Give him a Striker (Not Sturridge) and a RB and lets how he does.
  • Position to be reviewed after season according to SSN. Odd considering he had their complete backing a few weeks ago?

I think his needed hip surgery may play a part.
  • Lukerz

Think SSN are just repeating the Grauniad thing.
  • There is always a review at the end of a season. This is not a new thing. The owners and manager have always done this.
  • I was just about to say that Mooj ;ok
  • Transfer speculation moved to the, er, transfer speculation thread...

  • back in January the headline was exactly the same, just typed the deadline into google.. ;doh
  • Listening back to the radio from last night.

Telegraph's Jason Burt saying Slav was 5th or 6th choice manager.

Got called on it. Pointed out Rafa was 1st choice. Asked who was 4th or 5th - oh, I can't remember, but he wasn't 1st choice.

Ok I'm gonna throw this out there - if the quality of new recruits which Slav wants this summer doesn't arrive within the timescales he is happy with, does anyone else think there's a chance he might WALK?
  • I don't think Slav's a quitter. I think he genuinely loves the club and is happy to be here.
  • I love the club and been here a lot longer then Bilic and unlike him I am a quitter so if I can hang around for 50 odd years im sure slav can ;biggrin
  • I guarantee you he won't be here next season. If he is ill change my name to Allardyce My Hero

    ;whistle
  • Save the date - 12th August for Twist's name change

Just wanted to give Slav a bit of a shout out here. It wasn't that long ago that he was getting absolute pelters on social media for supposedly vetoing the Iheanacho deal. Well, a month or so on and Iheanacho is still with City, despite them agreeing a fee with Leicester, and we have Hernandez in the bag, so it looks like it was the right decision.

Don't get me wrong, I did want Iheanacho, and I still think he'll score a hatful when given a run of games, but we risked another Bacca situation had we persisted and that's the last thing we needed.

I suspect the £140k a week had some influence on Hernandez signing, but it's nice to hear such positive words about the manager and it looks like Slav put a lot of effort into getting him here.

Well the board seems happy, Slav seems happy and there's a positive vibe about the place. Doesn't look like Slav is going anywhere. You may as well give up now, Twist, and change your profile name right now
