  We’re batting first.

Good toss to win for Australia. Looks like the ball will do a bit, so I fancy a return to the 30-3 days.

  32-0.

Not without a couple of scares, but Crawley and Duckett have started with positive intent.
• OldCastleSwift

  July 2023

Duckett dropped by Warner off Cummins' first ball.

  Pretty straightforward chance, that. Shame.

Warner with a bad drop at slip gives Duckett a life.

Crawley put down now. Much tougher chance to Smith though.

  55-0.

Yeah, much tougher chance for Smith, woulda been a stunning catch tbh.

Duckett gone. Gloved it behind. 62-1

Good review by Australia, another poor decision by the umpire although at least it wasn't against us this time.

One brings two, Crawley gone now, 66-2.

  Root plays on.

  73-3.

After a great start, things are looking rather worrying now.

Brook gets a life from Carey now, very bad drop.
• OldCastleSwift

  July 2023

  Brook dropped by Carey.

If Australia didn't have a case of the Englands, we could be 6 down before lunch.

  We still could be 😱😱😱

Brook living dangerously, edges another one, this time between 3rd slip and gulley. He needs to start finding the middle of the bat.
• thornburyiron

  July 2023

He’s done that alright. He’s almost got his 50
• buffybegood

131-3 at lunch. Such a shame we lost those 3 quick wickets, but, in all honesty, it coulda been worse.

Moeen has managed to hurt himself going for a run, looks like a groin injury; I think he's had those before. Not gonna help him being able to bowl, even if he can continue to bat on for the time being.

You can’t lose the same batters twice.

Ali looks to have picked up a groin injury. Not sure what it means for his ability to bowl, but he doesn't look comfortable at all.
• OldCastleSwift

  July 2023

So he's going to stand still and hit sixes, it seems.
• thornburyiron

  July 2023

  Bowled now though. 4 down.
• buffybegood

  July 2023 edited July 2023

Didn't have the mobility to properly play a spinner, good move by Cummins to bring him on imo. 184-4.
• thornburyiron

  Stokes gone now.
• OldCastleSwift

  July 2023

Didn't look at all settled, Stokes. Bairstow in next; feel like this could go either way.
• buffybegood

  July 2023

193-5, good delivery but not a great shot by Stokes this early in his innings.

Ah. It went that way then.

  Bairstow out for 4.
