  • With our CB shortage, a cheeky loan till end of season for Craig Dawson, not in Wolves starting 11 last night, surely for a few months he could manage it “down South”… could do a lot worse… in fact we probably have….just a sentimental thought ⚒️❤️
  • I love Dawson, but I don’t think there’s a question in 2025 that he’s the answer to.

For 3-4 months, I’d personally sooner see him than liability deluxe Mavropanos play…

Wolves have conceded more goals than us, and you think taking a 34 year old from the heart of our defence solves our problems? Last year their centre backs were Dawson and Kilman and they conceded 65 goals in the league, I don't think that pairing is the answer for us.
  • Jhon Duran transfer: West Ham ‘third bid update’ amid £100m Aston Villa bombshell https://www.westhamzone.com/transfers/jhon-duran-transfer-west-ham-third-bid-update-amid-100m-aston-villa-bombshell/

£100m for a player that we didn't want to pay £40m for in the summer for a player who can't get regular game at Villa. Not worth it. Try somewhere else.
  • Load of rubbish lol
  • You'd think Sullivan would realise by now that these unrealistic bids don't fool us anymore.
  • I think Duran is worth £85m
  • Big Jhon up next 🫣
  • I think Duran is worth £85m

I honestly don’t think anyone is worth that to us. We don’t have enough money to spent £85m on one player. What if he gets injured? We’re not rich enough to risk it, IMO.
  • This looks like Villa doing the same as they did in the summer. Every time you bid they up the price. Walk away West Ham.

I only say it because we’ve been so bad at finding a striker and feel he could really propel us forward.

But I’m not being totally serious. Every time we have broken our transfer record since Matt Jarvis, they haven’t come close to matching it.
  • How much? 😜

So you are saying that Mavropanos is an improvement on Dawson, even just till the end of the season...Well, then we'll have to agree to disagree....
  • Dawson’s last start was against Spurs 29 Dec, he missed two matches with a calf strain and has been on the bench for the last two

He’s 12th for minutes played this season

Wolves play a back three, they’ve drawn Blackburn in the Cup so have a good chance of progressing to the 5th round and will want squad depth

Two hopes of Craig coming back to London
  • Dawson wanted to leave London though, so doesn’t feel like a realistic option anyway
  • Man U paid over 70m for Hojlund and he has scored twice this year and only 12 in two years and over 80m for Antony and he has scored just 5 goals in 60 appearances over three years

At these prices- you can see why Villa reckon Duran is worth more than 57m

I don't really think it is, was just pointing out that IMO he's more reliable than mistake a minute Mavro......( on short term till end of season )
  • Duran is unproven really, yeh, he's been exciting this season, but before then....I'm sure he'll have a great future, but at that money IMO it's crazy....
Watkins, that's a different prospect....I'd have loved us to sign him when he went to Villa.
  • If we try to get anyone from Wolves, it should be Cunha, IMO. Particularly if we’ve genuinely got the money to spend that we’re bidding on Duran.
  • We had our chance for Duran in the summer and we made a pig's ear of it. The problem with paying upwards of £60m for him now (especially when there are so many other positions in the squad that desperately need addressing) is that we know he's not going to stay here long. If we thought he'd stay for 5 or 6 seasons, then maybe he'd be worth considering, but we all know we'll be lucky to get a season and a half, maybe 2 seasons out of him before he thinks he can get a better gig elsewhere.

When you've bought at such a high price, there's little room to make a profit (and more chance of making a loss like Haller), especially if he becomes difficult like Arnautovic. £60-70m, when the squad needs so much attention, is just too much; as much as I'd like to see him banging in goals in our claret and blue, that sort of money can be better spent elsewhere, either now or in the summer (or a bit of both).
  • We need lots of players but I suspect Potter/Sullivan will probably settle for just two - a forward and a defender. Midfield is weak but WHU will muddle through as good players are hard to find in January and the cost is exorbitant for desperate clubs. Hopefully, we will survive and then it is more rebuilding in summer. With hindsight, Tim Steidten's recruitment hasn't been that good.
  • I don’t think we do need lots of players. We have lots of players. I feel like we should be expecting our coach to, yknow, coach the players and improve them. Potter has a reputation for playing to his players strengths, adapting tactics to suit players rather than the other way around, and improving players.

IMO we need another centre back and a striker, because we literally don’t have enough, but otherwise I think we just need to use our players properly and get them back into form.
  • I still think our biggest problem is pace. You can't coach that
  • Remember Jonjo Shelvey?

Just signed on a free with Burnley after leaving
    Eyüpspor
  • With a great traitors style announcement
  • Exeter you can coach pace and our fitness staff should be doing just that. It’s simply stride v cadence. The shorter the stride length and the quicker the stride rate the quicker and more effective you run.
  • That is a massive oversimplification. Speed is largely down to genetics.

You can train someone to sprint faster, sure, but they aren't going to get MUCH faster unless they already have 'pace'.

professional footballers are doing however many hours of training already - sport/position/match-specific training. Where are they going to fit in blocks of sprint training on top of all the other training (and allowing for recovery)?

I doubt that the amount of sprint training that can be realistically added to a training programme will make much difference tbh.

(This all assuming that sprinting drills aren't already included in training.... but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they are.)
