I really like Awoniyi, and could see him working out well for us.
However, he's fallen off massively in the past 12mths or so and it would take a big old swing in form to see him succeed. This season he's averaging about 22 minutes per appearance, has only started 4 times, scoring 1 goal. In 2024 he only managed 3 goals in total.
But perhaps more importantly, in 2023/24 he missed 32 games with two different injuries (one of them a groin injury), he missed 17 games in 2022/23 (with a groin injury), and he missed 13 games in 2020/21.
Awoniyi will only leave Forest if they sign a replacement
Latest from Sky Sports News' Lyall Thomas and Rob Dorsett: Nottingham Forest won't allow Taiwo Awoniyi to leave the City Ground this month unless they have a new striker to replace him. West Ham have Awoniyi on their list of possible forward targets, but have yet to make an approach. He has started just two Premier League games for Forest this season, after falling behind 12-goal Chris Wood in the pecking order. Wood himself is close to agreeing a contract extension. Forest were interested in Santiago Gimenez at Feyenoord in the summer, but couldn't get a deal over the line. It is not clear if Forest are ready to resurrect those negotiations, or if their lofty position in the Premier League now makes them a more attractive option for Giminez and other top players. Giminez has not yet decided when the best time is for him to leave the Netherlands, but it is thought he has interest from a number of clubs across Europe.
Villa have just signed another forward from Dortmund so there is a chance Duran is looking to leave. He will undoubtedly cost more than we were looking to spend in the summer but does look exactly what we need. He only signed a new contract a while back but hard to see why Villa would spend 25m for a third choice striker or why he would come to be third choice behind Watkins and Duran?

They have just sold Jaden Philogene to Ipswich, and I think the new signing is more a replacement for him rather than in preparation of Duran leaving.
Andre Silva, 29yo, 53 caps for Portugal but his last cap was at the 2022 World Cup, spent most of the time on the bench and hasn’t been in the match day squad since
Joined RB Leipzig on a 5-year contract in 2021, 110 appearances but spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad
Has been available for every game this season, 15 appearances but just 2 starts, one in the Champions League and one in the Pokal
West Ham's search for a striker could lead them to make a move for Fulham's 23-year-old Brazilian forward Rodrigo Muniz. (Standard), external
West Ham want to cut their losses on Brazilian Luis Guilherme, 18, and sell the forward just seven months after signing him. (Times - subscription required)
It was reported earlier this week that we had a £40M bid for Duran rejected last week. Villa want £60M. Duran apparently still not happy playing second fiddle to Watkins.

Can't understand this as Potter has not really seen what Guilherme can offer. He's only 18, so has a lot of years ahead of him to develop and isn't that what Potter's good at.
In my view Duran should be the target and at 60m and an add on or two could still be good business due to his age. We messed up in the summer by not getting him in when he was pushing for it himself and Villa ready to deal. We never know the real situation but reports were that we were short of their valuation but we wanted it, they wanted it and the player wanted it so they asked if we would make the rest up with our academy player, which, we possibly rightly, refused. We then bought Fulkrug, who was our most puzzling signing for most fans even before he kicked a ball.
With Duran we have the right age, premier tested and full of potential. I don't know our financial situation but if the money is there I would buy Duran. If the money is not there I would be tempted to let Kudus go in the summer if needed to cover it in the hope that Summerville can step up for us, as this forward position is really the signing we need fill properly now.
The time to buy Duran was in the summer, or, much, much better, before he even moved to Villa. After the first half of the season he's had, that ship has sailed now; if he wasn't value at £40m in the summer he's not going to be at £65-70m 5 months later.

I think he was value at 40m in the summer and his subsequent performances have made the case of that. He is kept out of Villa by what will be the England centre forward once someone summons up the courage to tell Harry Kane. It's one of the most difficult positions to fill and he comes with less risk than if we went back into the market as we have the last three who had no Premier league experience. So to me 50m feels about right but if we can get for a little inflated 60m due to Villa's strength of position, if the money is there it's the signing we need most.
I would love to keep Kudus as well and hopefully that may be possible, but if you asked me would I put Duran into our side now at the expense of selling Kudus? I would, now or in the summer, I imagine we would get 60m for Kudus.

Sorry, I shoulda said if he wasn't deemed value at £40m in the summer; I agree with you, even without hindsight, that we should have ensured the deal was done rather than moving onto Füllkrug.
I think Buffy is right, that ship has sailed and he did seem to have an attitude issue. There must be some quick and young forwards in the European leagues that would be better value for money. We must be due a good one soon.
