    After the Crystal Palace game,

I think this highlights how much work needs to be done between now and August. Desperately need, at the very least, a keeper, a centre back (and that's assuming Todibo gets fit, settles, and starts to play well), a centre forward and a centre midfielder. In all likelihood it will also be a RB, another CB if we can offload Mavropanos (at best he must be 4th choice), another CF (we'll lose both Antonio and Ings, and Füllkrug isn't exactly proving reliable from an availability standpoint), another keeper (Fab won't be good enough for the bench, and Areola will be too expensive for the bench).

2 keepers, 2 CBs, 2 CFs, a RB and a CM. 8 new players, unless Aguerd is happy to play under Potter, and Potter wants to keep him that is. And that's assuming that Scarles is a considered 1st or 2nd choice at LB so we don't have to replace Cresswell. And that one of Potts, Orford and Earthy comes through to play CM for more than just 20 minutes in a game here and there. And assuming no-one we want to keep wants out.

  • That last sentence is the most worrying.

  • You just can’t bring in that many players and make it work. Same thing happened this summer. Rebuilding/fixing has to be a process, not done in one transfer window

5 players (Ings, Antonio, Fabianski, Cresswell and Coufal) are out of contract and really shoudn't be renewed (Coufal the possible exception but he's not getting much football), and we're a CB down from last summer. Add to that the fact that Areola isn't good enough to be a starter in such a key position. The squad has been allowed to age throughout Moyes's tenure; the recruitment strategy has been focused on the short term for too long and now we're reaping what we've sowed. We've spent poorly too often for too long.
  • So what we are saying is DM is to blame for some of the problems in mainly wanting EPL experience when making transfers. Giving the new players a chance to find their feet isn’t going to happen in Guilherme’s case if we sell him at the first opportunity?

Obviously we do not know what happens on the training ground but I watched Guilherme quite closely in Florida and he looked useful to me - he was of course brand new then and maybe trying hard to make an impression but I am sure there is a player in there somewhere.
  • Why would we risk him for 10 mins if he was about to be sold
  • @steve, There would have been more of a risk of injury if he had started 👍.
  • I suppose my disappointment is that we may be considering selling him before he has been given a realistic chance to show us what he can do
  • Well, the coaching staff have seen what he can do every training day for 6 months.

Which is, imo, a realistic chance to see a lot about him.

If he can't convince people with that, I'm doubtful that he has other magic powers.

Although not the current coaches and manager 🤔
Not sure I’d personally judge what J Lo went on and his coaches, although of course they know more than me!
  • Remember Dele Alli?

Just signed an 18 month contract with Como 1907, currently 15th in Serie A

    Remember Wilfred Zaha?

Currently on loan at Lyon from Galatasaray but just 6 appearances and discussing a move to Charlotte FC of MLS
  • Good for Dele Alli, IMO. The guy has had an incredibly rough ride of things.
  • Have we signed anyone yet =)

Here you go, a bargain signing from a lower league outfit

  • Good in the cup?
  • Hammers keen to offload £25m summer recruit Guilherme

Latest from Sky Sports News' Dharmesh Sheth:
Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal have explored the conditions of a deal for West Ham winger Luis Guilherme.
There are other Saudi clubs interested too.
The Hammers are listening to offers and are looking to recoup the £25m they paid Palmeiras in the summer.
Guilherme hasn’t started a game all season.
  • 'West Ham enquire over Leipzig's Andre Silva'
Latest from Sky Sports News' Dharmesh Sheth:
West Ham remain interested in RB Leipzig forward Andre Silva, with one source telling Sky Sports News they have made initial enquiries.
He is one of a number of attackers the Hammers are interested in.
Leipzig would prefer a permanent deal – or at least a loan that comes with an obligation.
He has entered the final 18 months of his contract.
Silva hasn’t started a Bundesliga game this season.
West Ham remain interested in Brighton’s Evan Ferguson and Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi and Evann Guessand.
  • I suspect they will keep him until the summer to see how their new striker gets on and then cash in on him. I do think it will take £60m and a couple of add ons as a good striker is hard to come by for most teams. I suspect he is pushing for a move as he was in the summer as he is too good to be on anyone's bench it seems, he needs to be in a team in which he starts each week and Watkins prevents that.
  • They should keep Duran and sell Watkns if you ask me .But no one ever does =)
  • Kyle Macauley has been taken on to lead our recruitment policy. Where does that leave Steidten.
  • I don’t think it makes sense to blame the recruitment guy and the new manager for the season’s signings. If Steidten’s recruitment has been bad then get rid and let Lopetiguu work on improving and seeing who he can get in next.

If Lopetigui was given duds, then get rid of him as we did but I don’t see why you straight away get rid of Steidten as well.

bbc reporting it's still being negotiated. Also that he's an 'analyst'.

At Chelsea he was involved in talent management and recruitment.

I don't think that's the same as 'policy' really.
  • Does that mean we have £57m to spend?

IF we do it can be used to buy 2/3 decent players from around Europe but I expect it's been leaked to the press as a "we tried to sign etc" from Mr Sullivan.
