    Studies by the international Olympic Association and various studies world wide have shown that genetics is a factor but not the most significant as training and coaching does result in speed improvements. Their predictions are that before 2050 the 100m Olympic and world records will be under 9 seconds for men and 10 secs for women.
    Granted their studies relate to elite athletes but our sports scientists should be able to improve our players, always assuming of course, that they have and were even worse before than they are now.

    A footballers training isn't going to be focused on running faster. Where as that would be the main training focus for 100m athletes

    Coaching definitely does result in improvement. My sprint coach at school taught me to poke the kid in the next lane in the ribs just before the gun. Worked every time. =)

    With regard to footballers, no amount of coaching is going to make a slow player faster than a fast player. It may make a slow player a bit faster, but it's never going to turn, for instance, Soucek into someone as fast as Duran.

    There does seem to be something inherent in each person regard running fast or far. Soucek is known to be able to run long distances and is probably one of our slower players, I doubt Bowen would keep up with him over 3 miles but would probably wipe the floor with him over 100m. There is no doubt you could improve both over each others natural distance, but not to ever beat the other as something inherent in their make up would prevail.

    There are few actual slow players now and the age of the donkey centre half is gone (ok I accept Maguire) but the really pacy players are naturally pacy.

    Ezechiel Banzuzi is 19yo, will be 20 in February

    Only played a season and a half in the Belgian top flight so might need a while before he’s ready for the Prem

    If he was good enough for the Prem at 19 Brighton would have signed him already

    Amazon is understood to be considering a potential deal to become a partner of West Ham United.

    This could include becoming the main shirt sponsors and also owning the stadium naming rights, which could potentially be a huge move from the club.

    West Ham deal for Banzuzi delayed

    Latest from Sky Sports News' Rob Dorsett:
    West Ham's deal with OH Leuven for midfielder Ezechiel Banzuzi has been delayed.
    The Premier League club remain hopeful of completing the transfer after verbally agreeing a deal earlier this week.
    However, the process of formalising the deal, and Banzuzi undergoing a medical, is currently on hold.
    West Ham are currently in the process of appointing Kyle Macaulay as the club’s new head of recruitment.
    The development throws the future of Technical Director Tim Steidten into further doubt.
    Sources have told Sky Sports News that when Macaulay is appointed, Steidten is expected to leave his role.

    Füllkrug, 100% (the overall deal, considering the make-up of our other CFs, was very poor)
    Guilherme, 100% (news is leaking out that there's something very fishy about the whole deal)
