I’d much prefer trying out own youth than buying other teams fringe players. They may, or may not, make it, but they would at least have the ambition and probably loyalty to West Ham.
We will never really be able to compete successfully if we are going back to the days of signing other teams fringe players. We need to be continuing to show the kind of ambition shown when we signed existing top first team players like Todibo, Summerville, AWB, Kudus & Alvarez.
AWB was a fringe player at Man Utd, that’s why they let him go and you could argue he’s been our most successful signing this season
Previously when we’ve needed a striker in January we ended up with Demba Ba (good), Jordan Hugill (bad) and Danny Ings (ugly)
Better to get a loan player to cover until summer when Potter can have a proper sort out

The other thing with youth players is that if you develop them it can give a real boost to PSR. The only reason we’ve been so active in the windows the last couple of summers is because of Rice leaving and being 100% profit. Obviously I want our youth players to make it with us, but if they don’t, they can be a good way to get to sustainability.
I don't actually believe we are about to make an offer for this guy but this piece makes the points I was making last week. I would rather put my faith in Ings to sneak a goal or two than this guy.
I wouldn't be surprised if we saved our money now until Summer and trusted in Potter to pick up enough points with what we have, the season is gone now and availability is much better in the summer. A loan would be ideal but panic buying someone isn't necessary as we are not in the position Wolves find themselves.
By the time we have signed someone and given them a week or so to get to know the squad hopefully Bowen and Summerville will be fit. That would mean Bowen on the right, which puts Kudus out of position and puts Summerville back on the bench.

Evan Ferguson at Brighton again being linked. Looked a superb prospect a couple of seasons ago, scoring 6 with 2 assists in just 950 minutes of PL football when only 18. However, he already has 3 separate entries for ankle injuries/problems (plus a knee injury) listed on Transfermarkt, totalling over 6 months out. If we're looking at him long term, it feels like a huge risk for a 20 year old who already has a history of injuries to one part of his body. He's a bit of a unit, and can't help feeling he's going to have ankle issues throughout his career, especially if he signs for us (striker's curse).
Kinda gives me Andy Carroll vibes in that his body won't allow him to play the way he needs to to play his best.
Suggestions that we've signed a youngster from Hibs, Josh Landers 17yr old forward. If true, surely one for the development squad, or maybe to be loaned out or maybe even loaned back to Hibs.
The reported Duran bid, at around £70m, on top of the reported Watkins bid, of around £60m, must put Villa in a quandary. The £130m would alleviate any PSR concerns and allow them to go into the market.
If Duran is off to Saudi then that’s a bullet dodged IMO. Going there at 21 or whatever he is doesn’t scream ambition
Apart from the fact that we coulda made £30m on him in 6 months.
There's a lot of factors at play here so I don't think it's as simple as this. He might have joined us and got injured. He might have joined us and shown nowhere near the form he has for Villa (like all the strikers we've signed for the last 20 years). He's playing in a very good side right now, something we aren't.

I don’t understand why we’re chasing midfielders when our defense needs attention

We won't be relegated, nor are we gonna get spot in Europe
Bowen/Summerville back within the next 2 weeks, Mavropanos back and Todibo probably available in the next couple weeks (who knows with him)
Panic buys don't really gain us anything
