  • Leach strikes with an lbw given onfield, and Pakistan lose a review as well. Pakistan are 77-4.
  • Finally another breakthrough, Carse takes a wicket, caught by Root at a wide-ish first slip, close in due to the lack of carry.

Pakistan are 114-5, a lead of 189 which will already be a tough ask on a day 8 pitch.
  • India bowled out for 46 against New Zealand after winning the toss and batting. NZ 53-0 in reply.

I commented earlier when they were struggling, shame 😂🤣😂.

Really bad drop by Smith off Carse, it barely carried but he had to take it.

Edit: seeing the replay, it clearly carried, a very bad drop

Now Root drops one at slip as well in the same over.
  • 134-5 at tea, already a lead of 209. It will take a mighty performance by England to get anything out of the game the way the ball is turning.
  • It’s not really a day 8 pitch, more like day 11 because it had 3 days in between to bake in the sun.

Leach takes the 6th wicket, out plumb lbw on review although not given by the umpire, what was he thinking? 145-6, the lead is 220.
  • Leach takes another, clean bowled, 150-7.
  • Now Bashir takes another, caught by Stokes at slip. 156-8, a lead of 231.
  • Just what we didn't need, Leach goes for 15 in one over.
  • The two drops in the earlier over proving expensive now. Cost at least 50 runs so far.
  • Those drops off Carse by Smith and Root are coming back to haunt us, Salman was on 4 and 6 at the time, he's now on 55.
  • A bit of a lack of commitment from Bashir in the field, it looked like a dive might give him a chance of a catch off Potts, but he pulls out of it.
  • Hawkeye stops working, it sounds like there's an edge, the umpire doesn't give it. Have Pakistan got away with one there?
  • Salman finally goes for 63, caught by Stokes off Carse. 221-9, a lead of 296.
  • Potts gets the last wicket, Pakistan all out for 221, so England need 297 to win, a very, very big ask on this wicket.
  • A hugely important session until the close this evening, England really need to get through it for the loss of no more than one wicket to have any hope at all of getting something from the game.
  • Duckett goes for a duck, England 1-1.
  • 11-2, Crawley down the track and misses the ball, an easy stumping.
  • England reach 36-2 at the close of play, needing a futher 261 tomorrow.
  • Pope goes in the second over this morning, 37-3.

Root given lbw on field, only the review can save him. Unfortunately the umpire's call does for him, was a very close call for being otside the line, but Root has to go. 55-4.
  • I would so love England to win this, because I strongly feel it was unacceptable to use the same pitch for this match and I hate to see such underhand tactics rewarded. Just can't see it happening though.
  • Brook given lbw now. The review can't save him, and is lost. 78-5.
  • The Sky commentators are really going on about the 9th day pitch, and rightly so imo.
  • Smith goes for 6, 88-6.
  • And now Carse given lbw, and reviews. It's missing, so he survives, for now.

Stokes advances down the pitch but misses the ball and is stumped, 125-7.
  • Carse goes for 27, England are 138-8.
