  • Rehan takes the final wicket, Pakistan all out for 344, a lead of 77 runs. Their tail really wagged, adding 167 for the last 3 wickets elevating them from 177-7 to an unexpected first innings lead.

An all important 55 minutes or so for England to bat through to the close; lose more than 1 wicket and we'll definitely be on the back foot, but if we get through unscathed then we likely won't be too far behind and all will still be to play for.
  • Duckett's gone on review for 12, England 15-1.
  • And now Crawley goes the next over, 15-2 and he's wasted a review.
  • And now Pope 20-3
  • And Pope goes cheaply again, gone for 1 off 15 balls and England in real trouble at 20-3.
  • Bad light stops play 15 minutes before the scheduled close with England on 24-3, still trailing by 53 runs and already 3 wickets down.
  • Brook goes for 26, and England are 66-4, still 11 runs behind.
  • Stokes goes for just 3, a dreadful shouldering of arms and he's given lbw. 70-5, and we're still behind.
  • Smith gone for 3, advancing down the wicket and bowled through the gate. 6 down and we're still behind, a dreadful capitulation.
  • Root goes for 33, 85-7, a lead of just 8.
  • Atkinson gone, 97-8.
  • Rehan gone, 106-9.
  • 112 all out, setting Pakistan just 36 to win. Really wasn't worth being up early this morning.
  • All over in just 3.1 overs for the loss of just 1 wicket to complete a 9 wicket win.
  • The first Test against New Zealand, with 3rd choice keeper Ollie Pope behind the stumps and dropping down to bat at 6.

England win the toss and opt to field, which apparently is the usual thing at this ground in Christchurch.
  • Atkinson strikes in the second over with a decent caught and bowled.

NZ were ticking along nicely but Carse makes a breakthrough and has Latham caught behind, 62-2. Having put NZ in, 2 wickets is the absolute bare minimum you'd want in the first session, but really you're looking for 3 or more so hopefully we can strike at least once more in the 45 minutes until lunch.
  • Disappointingly England miss a caught behind when a small edge went unnoticed in the last over before lunch, NZ 104-2 at lunch.

The miss only costs us 14 as Ravindra goes for 34 with Crawley taking a catch off a poor ball from Bashir. 130-3.
  • However, no further progress in the afternoon session, as NZ reach 193-3 at tea.
  • A breakthrough just after tea, with Brook taking a catch off Carse and Mitchell goes for 19. NZ are 199-4.
  • Atkinson comes back into the attack and gets the key wicket of Williamson for 93, caught by Crawley. NZ are 227-5.
  • Stokes puts down a tough but very makeable catch off Atkinson.
  • Bashir gets another, Blundel, who has a cracking average against us, goes for 17, caught by Atkinson. NZ are 246-6.
  • And another one for Bashir, caught by Root and NZ's debutant Smith goes for just 3. NZ are 252-7.
  • England think they have another as the umpire raises his finger for a caught behind down the legside, but it's overturned on review.
  • England finally do get that 8th wicket, as Bashir gets his 4th with Duckett taking the catch on the boundary. 298-8.
  • 319-8 at the close. A much better final session for England, and probably honours about even on the day.
  • Early wicket on day 2 as Atkinson takes a catch on the boundary to give Carse another wicket. 325-9.
