  • Close of play. England reach 207-2 off just 35 overs, with Duckett unbeaten on 133.
  • Root tries an unorthodox shot, an attempted ramp or something, and he's gone for just 18. 224-3. Yet again this series a player has more or less got in, and then failed to make a decent score.

And now Bairstow has been given LBW for 0, but he's reluctantly reviewed it, looks like 225-4, and we've burned a review. A poor start to the morning, what was Root thinking?
  • Duckett plays a really poor shot and offers the easiest of catches. He's gone for 153, England in real trouble at 260-5.

290-5 at lunch, a big afternoon session ahead. Wickets have fallen early in the first session on both the previous days, so it's very frustrating that 2 of the wickets to fall were to such poor shots, meaning we're down to our last recognised pair as we go into the easier afternoon session. A bit more discipline this morning and we'd be in a much better place to score heavily in the easier conditions to come.
  • Stokes goes for 41, 299-6.
  • Foakes goes next ball, 299-7, 2 new batsmen at the crease.
  • Rehan Ahmed goes for just 6, 314-8.
  • And now Hartley for 9, 314-9.
  • A dreadful collapse, from 224-2 to 319 all out. And now India get to bat in the easiest conditions as well, with a first innings lead of 126.
  • England burn an early review, we've been very poor with our reviews so far this series, both with unsuccessful ones, and missed reviews that would have been successful.

That aged well, England review another, and Root has Rohit LBW, India 30-1, a lead of 156.

  • India 44-1 at tea, a lead of 170.
  • Finally, 191-2, Hartley with the wicket.
  • Close of play, 196-2, a lead of 322 already.
  • India 314-4 at lunch, a lead of 440 already.
  • India declare on 430-4, setting England a target of 557.

Duckett runs himself out for 4. He's halfway down the wicket, Crawley doesn't move, Duckett turns and is out by a mile. 15-1
  • Crawley out in the last over before tea, given LBW maybe slightly unluckily, the ball barely clipping the bails for both height and down the legside, but the umpire gave it out and so the review couldn't save him. 18-2.
  • Not looking good as Pope goes for 3..20-3!
  • Pope gone for 3, 20-3.

Bairstow and Root at the crease, who've both had a poor series so far. Root has made just 70 runs in 5 innings in the series at an average of just 14, with a top score of 29. Bairstow has done slightly better, with 98 runs at 19.6, with a top score of 37. Both are well below what's needed on what have been surprisingly decent pitches so far.

This game is surely beyond us, but we need these two to try and bat themselves into form for the remainder of the series.
  • So much for that, Bairstow gone for 4, 28-4.
  • Bairstow likely to be replaced by Brook I would think after a horrendous shot to his 4 the ball.
    Could be all over today.
  • Stokes should ok hit outside the line I think

Brook returned to England before the series for personal reasons, has he gone back out to India?
  • I was trying to check, it was originally thought he would be returning half way through.
  • We are going to lose by 400+ runs, possibly even 500+ at this rate.

Looks like Dan Lawrence has replaced him, would add occasional (sharp) spin. He would deserve a chance ahead of Bairstow, but not exactly solid either!

Fortunately it won't be our heaviest ever defeat, which was by 562 runs nearly 90 years ago.
