  • England finally get a wicket, 84-1, but there have been few demons in the pitch so far this morning; it will need something special to win from here.

Hartley draws Rohit down the pitch and turns the ball past his bat; an easy stumping for Foakes. 99-2.

Edit: apparently Rohit edged it as well, so he was out twice.
  • 100-3, Pope takes the catch off Bashir.
  • 118-3 at lunch, India need 74 more to win. England need quick wickets after lunch, but they must feel more optimistic than at 84 without loss.
  • Jadeja gone, 120-4, Bashir with the wicket off, tbh, a dreadful delivery.
  • And another wicket next ball, Bashir on a hat-trick. 120-5.
  • At 120-5, it felt as though we might have had a chance, but alas that was as good as it got. India win by 5 wickets and win the series.
  • I was hoping we’d manage to salvage something from this, as my dad is going to the fifth test with his cricket club mates and it would have been nice to have something to play for, but you don’t expect anything in India.
  • India win against the toss and rightly take the series. Disappointed that we got ourselves into some good situations over the last few matches and failed to take advantage, but pleased that we did manage to compete at times - particularly with our new spinners.
  • Yeah, there were times in all the last 3 matches where we could have put ourselves in very strong positions, but alas we weren't able to grasp those opportunities. We could definitely have been 3-1 ahead ourselves, but it was not to be; the batting generally hasn't been good enough.

There have been 13 scores of 7 or less from the top 6 batsmen, and, frustratingly, also 14 times when a batsman has got in but then failed to go on to get a decent score (out in the 20s or 30s). There have only been 3 centuries and 4 half centuries from those 6 batsmen from a total of 48 innings; that's simply not good enough.
  • Our most consistent batter is probably Crawley. You would have got good odds against that before the series!
  • Crawley the only batsman to get over 50 more than once; he managed it 3 times. He has scored the most runs for us, and has the highest average.
  • England win the toss and bat first in the 5th Test. Mark Wood comes back in for Ollie Robinson.
  • Crawley survives an unpire's call LBW shout thanks to the onfield decision. It's been a tough first hour; it's quite chilly and the ball has been moving about quite a lot for the Indian fast bowlers. Ironically it's almost English conditions out there at the moment. England have done well to reach 47-0 at drinks in the first session.

Duckett gets a leading edge and goes to a good catch running back off Kuldeep, 64-1; having seen off the seamers he falls to spin for 27.
  • Crawley makes his 4th half century of the series, could really do with him converting this one to a ton.
  • Dreadful by Pope, he danced down the wicket and missed the ball completely, he's stumped for 11 in the last over before lunch. That's a grand total of 14 runs for Pope in his last 4 innings, his 196 in the first Test has disguised a generally poor run of form.

    England 100-2 at lunch.
  • Crawley got a life, the faintest of edges down the legside which the keeper pushed up and it was taken by a fielder, but it wasn't given and India failed to review.

Crawley goes for 79, bowled through the gate by one that turned sharply. England 137-3. Bairstow comes to the crease in his 100th Test match, he owes us some runs given he averages just 21.25 in the series so far.
  • Bairstow out for 29, edged throw to the keeper but inexplicably reviewed. England 174-4, we need some runs from Root and Stokes.

Now Root is out LBW, and he also burns a review. 175-5, with 2 batsmen on 0 in the middle.
  • Stokes given LBW for 0, he reviews in vain and they're all gone now. England 175-6, having been 100-1.
  • Bairstow out for 29, edged throw to the keeper but inexplicably reviewed. England 174-4, we need some runs from Root and Stokes.

England were actually on 175 when Bairstow was dismissed, so we lost 3 wickets without adding a run.

  • 183-7, Hartley caught on the boundary.
  • Wood goes second ball, 183-8.

5 wickets gone for 8 runs.
  • 194-8 at tea.
  • 218-9, Foakes goes, somewhat unluckily, for 24.
  • 218 all out.
  • Finally we take a wicket, 104-1 as Foakes stumps Jaiswal off Bashir.
  • India reach 135-1 at close of play, trailing by just 83 runs with 9 wickets in hand.
