  • I've seen alot of claims been made in the last few weeks and have come to the conclusion that I'm not believing any of them until they actually happen.

A user on KUMB has claimed Paqueta has received an offer & told Moyes he wants to leave.

This is something I have been worried about. I do hope it is not true.
  • I am sure the club have no intention of accepting an offer for him after losing Rice in Midfield already.

Yeah, got to be the best approach.

Every evening there's been something calamitous reported. I've just read that Steidten has actually blocked the Ward-Prowse move and Moyes is said to be bemused by the strategy.

I mean, it's nice to read that we might actually have a strategy, but this latest rumour flies squarely in the face of previous rumours that it's Moyes holding things up.

Either it's journo's making stuff up for clicks, a fog of war campaign by the club or we really are just a complete circus.

  • @Slacker, I see it’s started to get to you as well as you appear to have turned to 🍺. 😉

    Nah
Day off so several down the William with the Leyton Orient massive
Back to work tomorrow at 1:30pm
  • I left for Lake Tahoe on Saturday and came back last night after a camping trip. Bears absolutely everywhere and even bats above our tent in the trees. But the biggest issue was that I logged on here after having no signal for days and there were 259 messages and no transfers! Thats been followed by another 60+ since ;)
  • Livramento off to Newcastle for a pretty penny (wouldve loved him). I think he and Ashby will be the two RB/RWB in the near future as Trippiers getting n a bit (in football terms for a wing back anyway). With Barnes going there too, it seems Newcastle are buying the players I want.

Secondly, if this Borges was any good he'd have been pushing for the first team squad like McAter etc. (thats what I am telling myself anyway and who wants a player who'd rather go to Ajax)

Lastly, Bournemouth rumoured to be in advanced stuff with Alex Scott and moving in front of Wolves. Why are we not buying this guy!! We've bid and failed for every other MF in the world, no?
  • Forgot about this one... Sanchez to Chelsea for 25M. Wow! Not even Brighton first choice. I guess it makes up a little for them having to sell Mac Allister to Liverpool for peanuts
  • @Bazshuayi, Part of the reason I reckon Borges is going to Ajax is they have a good reputation for giving young players a chance and he might actually be allowed to play something I am not sure David Moyes was that keen on doing?

I agree with you about Alex Scott but the problem might be same as above.

I understand of course this is pure speculation but all this if true doesn’t bode well, not singing from the same hymn page and all….

Just sounds messy, but it’s Friday, so I’m happy…. Oh , just remembered I’m working all weekend 😡😡😡⚒️⚒️⚒️
  • Fortune Pep didn’t give him a first team chance so maybe he’s not considered PL level.

Steinberg reported the same thing https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/aug/03/west-hams-ward-prowse-pursuit-in-peril-amid-moyes-rift-with-steidten?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

While I share the feeling that £40m is too much for JWP, I feel very sorry for Moyes in the position he’s in. It might even be that Steidten’s choices are good for the long term but it feels like he’s been left hanging. This stuff worries me way more than whether we’ve got anyone in.

This impasse is why we don't have anyone in. Not sure how much of this mess is being driven by ego, but it needs sorting out.

We've put ourselves in a ridiculous position and unless it's resolved soon, it could impact our ability to bring anyone in, let alone our primary targets.

  • I’m taking it all with a pinch of salt, but I have always found it odd that we brought in someone to lead our recruitment strategy after the window had already started. Teething problems are absolutely normal, it’s just not the time you’d really want those problems.
  • At the company I worked for for a long time the main board would every couple of years bring in some whizz kid who would reinvent the wheel, cause major disruption and generally screw the business until he/she was got rid of. The whole merry go round would start again and the Consultant (call it what you will) would move on to another lucrative contract and create another mess.

This Steidten bloke has only been at the club since 1st July and it seems to me that since then the whole atmosphere has deteriorated drastically. The longest he has spent at any club in a technical/ recruitment roll is three years. He has been at most clubs normally between 18 months and two years which may be a long time in football, I don’t know, but if you can believe what you read there appears to be a pretty big ego at work here and a lack of good will between him and Moyes.

I may be doing the bloke a disservice and Moyes I think can be pretty intransigent but from what I have read, for the good of the club somebody needs to step in, bang some heads together and sort this out quickly before the situation as I read it becomes more toxic and our club finds itself in trouble.

I know Steidten didn't officially start until 1st July, but I suspect he was involved in conversations and potential plans before then. In fact, The Guardian were reporting that he'd met with the board and Moyes in the week that the window opened.

It's evident that something isn't working. I can't believe for a second that the plan was to wait until the last couple of the weeks to bring in the much needed reinforcements. We have three league games before the window closes, two of which we are heavy favourites to lose. It's incredibly poor, IMO at least, to be going into the new season in the position we're in.

Twitter, X, whatever, has exploded with the rumour that we're giving medicals to Maguire and McTominay. The source, apparently, is Alan Nixon (@reluctantnico), who is fairly respected I think, particularly with his news about teams from the north.

Personally can't see that we'd be at the medical stage without someone reporting fees had been agreed etc., so I'm taking this with a heavy pinch of salt.
  • @OCS, Lets hope so.
  • You may be needing these -

  • We've supposedly just requested their medical records from Man Utd, so who knows?

Personally I'll be absolutely gutted if we sign Maguire, not keen on him even as a loan, but as a permanent signing I just can't see why we can't find better for cheaper. He's too slow, too error prone, too old to provide value, and he's also got this court case hanging over him in the new year.
  • I am not sure I believe the Ward Prowse fall out. If this was the case we would not even have bid, as has widely been reported. If we have bid but the new guy has now said no then he is not overriding Moyes on recruitment but actually taking Sully's decisions for him regard budget.
  • buffy, An example of a better option is the player Tottenham are looking to sign from Wolfsburg, surprised Tim Steidten wasn't all over it?
  • Listen, Maguire wouldn’t be at the top of my list. But I think the view that people have of him is massively clouded by the fact he’s become a meme. Maybe he’s too slow to play in a high line, but we don’t play one. Maybe he’s not good enough on the ball in a possession based side that builds from the back, but we aren’t that. If the manager and the rest of the committee that sign players decide he’s the centre back we need to improve as a club then that’s fine by me.

McTominay I’ve thought would be a good signing for a few years now.
  • Just for Clarity Alderz. That agree is for Maguire not McTom =)
  • I also don't like the fact that the cover we really need is at right CB given Zouma's undoubted absenses, and, although Maguire is right footed and can play there, his preference is on the left of a CB pairing. There's also the court case still hanging over him (due to be heard in February I think).

I just can't help feeling that Moyes is being ridiculously stubborn over this; I honestly fail to believe that there's not been a better CB available for less money at any point in this transfer window.
