Noble scouted him last season, apparently.

I wonder if we have anyone at the game tonight 🤔
  • Pleased for him

I’m surprised that I have to post this after this forum being live for nearly 13 years, but can everyone please treat other members with respect. This is meant to be the forum where users don’t yell at one another and we rise above a lot of the nonsense you see on other forums and on social media. Everyone is allowed to be annoyed from time to time, but please just treat each other with respect, and allow this to continue to be an enjoyable place for users to post.

EDIT: I’ve deleted all the posts from the previous exchange.
  • I dunno, I speak alot of nonsense at times hahaha

When you're not busy punching holes in boxes.
  • I booted a few boxes today. In my defence, I totally blame the moron who decided to not shrink wrap my pallet of work properly and then load it on the trailer from London so that when I unloaded off said trailer, it totally fell apart. There were a few expletives said as well.

Well I didn't like to say anything 😉

  • Good morning everyone. I feel today will bring us some positive transfer news. Just a feeling without any evidence.

I get the frustration but I just don’t see how you can blame the club if offers are being rejected. You can’t force a club to accept an offer. The idea the club should just ‘pay the money’ is ridiculous as we obviously have a set budget. Ok, some of the offers may appear a little low, but the club feel they have a value for players & no doubt it fits within the budget.

Also people saying the club have had a year to sort the replacement for Declan Rice. How does anybody know who the replacement was? Palhinha could have been the main replacement, or Ward-Prowse. It doesn’t mean that they’ll just sign immediately. I don’t think there’s any evidence to say the club had no idea who to sign after Rice left.
  • Just feel the whole vibes changed here now and not for the good 👎🏻

I agree and disagree with parts of this. ‘Just pay the money’ is a really flawed argument a lot of time, as we have a budget to maintain!

I think that generally speaking, offering below asking is a good thing to do as part of a negotiation tactic, but it doesn’t appear that the tactic has been successful at all this summer, as we seem to bid low then walk away from deals. If we’d bid £20m for Maguire to eventually get to a £30m price with Man Utd coming down from £50m, then that to me is a sensible way to do business. If we’d bid £20m and then they say “£45m?” and we then walk away, it seems a bit ineffective. (Maguire might be a bad example as I know a lot of people REALLY don’t want him)
  • @Lukerz, I think you can blame the club IF they are submitting really low bids especially if they are for the wrong players IMHO. =)

Maguire is a dreadful example 😂🤣😂, £20m is £18m too much already.

If we sign him, it will only be because of Moyes, and I'll never forgive him unless we win the PL, EL and FA Cup.

Seriously though, if we sign Maguire Moyes has lost all credit he might have had in the bank and will be hugely overdrawn in my eyes, I can't think of a current player I'd less want us to sign for the money being spoken about.

  • To be fair to Maguire, his mistakes would probably half with us, as he wont need to play out from the back much 👀

    Both are subjective.

There isn’t a set figure for any player where the bidding must start (unless they have a release clause or it has been publicly stated by the selling club). The club offers what they feel 1) they can afford & 2) what is fair value for the player (in their eyes).

The ‘wrong type of player’ is again subjective. Many felt Dawson & Lingard were ‘wrong types of players’. Both went on to be probably the most impactful signings we have had in the last 10 years, certainly in terms of value for money. Many felt Kehrer & Cornet were ‘right types of signings’, yet neither have kicked a ball consistently for the club.

But then double again because he won't be wearing a shirt with a Man Utd badge on it and the protection that offers against ref's decisions.

Seriously, he's their 6th choice CB behind a 35yo Jonny Evans and a LB Luke Shaw. £2m feels about right, £20m is ridiculous, and any more is stark raving bonkers.

  • I used to know a guy who made office furniture. His stuff was as good as anything you'd see in any office. Desks, swivel chairs, partitions, etc. He made it all from local materials, using local suppliers and staff.

I also had a friend who had just got a job opening a Shared Services Centre. 350 full-time employees, in a 21st-Century steel-and-glass office with a view of the city. I told him about my furniture-making friend, as I was sure he would be able to offer a price 50% less than Kinnarps, Bene, or any of the global names. This is what he replied:

"Sure, I'm sure the furniture is as good, if not better, and the price is definitely better, but I've been tasked with setting up this office, and I've got to provide reports to the headquarters in the US. If I'm the only person to say I'm not using Kinnarps but I'm going rogue, then a lot of my peers will preemptively accuse me of cutting corners, to defend their safe budget choices. And if I select this maverick option, and he messes up in any way -even in the same way that Kinnarps might, then that's my job. So that's why everyone goes with received wisdom -even when it's not wise."

I often think of this conversation when football transfers are discussed.
  • The mention of Lingard made me wonder what on earth he was thinking about in turning us down. He had his most successful spell ever with us - 9 goals in 16 games - and the fans loved him. Does anyone think it's worth a punt on him again, assuming he's still a free agent?
  • I agree with you, but he does seem like a typical Moyes signing. Dawson surprised us all, but that was a small fee.
Im sure Maguire will come with big wages aswell
  • I bet we get Maguire on loan in the last week of the window.
  • I’d be tempted to take a punt on Lingard.
  • Looks like, with Cresswell not training (just an odd one in general), we need another LB.

This is as urgent as the midfield recruitment, IMO.

We effectively have one senior LB at the club, and he's better suited to a wing back role.

Scarles is, what, 17 and I can't see Moyes giving him much of a run out. Johnson and Kehrer have both played LB but both far from ideal in that role as they're right footed.

So yeah, we need a LB. Tenuous links to a couple, but no bids placed from what we hear. Again, just something else that feels like it's being allowed to drag on without resolution.
  • We're not paying 200,000 a week. If we're not prepared to pay agent fees for Borges, which I'm guessing would be far cheaper than Maguire's wages, then we're not going to be signing Maguire.
