It's not really doom & gloom on here it's only how people perceive it to be! They are entitled to feel there is no call for concern but there are those of us who are concerned about David Moyes and his apparent inflexibility when it comes to who we should buy. I do feel all is not well atm.
Yeah you’re right. It’s like Glee Club on here isn’t it?
Slacker, of course no one is forcing your arm to read all this, unless one of the mod’s have nothing better to do, just saying 👍🏻
Nah, I enjoy reading it, it’s informative and always cheers me up. Can’t wait for the new season match threads to start, they’re such fun as well.
I’d be really underwhelmed with McTominay. Not sure about Ward-Prowse, probably just whelmed in his case.
As much as I don't particularly rate McTominay, and given that I think he'll find things harder with the protection (from bookings) of a Man Utd badge on his shirt, I'd prefer him to JWP, especially if the latter is going to cost more than £20m.
My reading of the tea leaves is that we're buying JWP. So the next question is which other midfielder/s would suit us best? Answer IMO is Alvarez, probably at the end of the window.

I agree that JWP is looking likely (unfortunately), but imo he's just too slow if he's paired with Alvarez. I know he covers a lot of distance, but I feel a lot of it is chasing the play, which tends to mean he can't have an impact, almost how Noble was playing in his last couple of seasons.
Id be happy with mcsauce or jwp if they are a soucek replacement. Would still prefer Gallagher as he can carry the ball forward. But the DM is where we really need to get it right. I cant see palhinha coming now, but we can hope.
Palhinha is the only player we should be going for, but we aren’t going to pay the fee.
Lukerz, are you forgetting the injury he sustained on Sunday?
I don't think the severity of the injury has been confirmed. There was talk of a dislocated, or separated shoulder, but that was subject to a scan which I haven't seen any updates on. If it's minor ligament damage then it might only be two or three weeks out which wouldn't prevent a move.

On this, there’s a big difference between the types of ball carrying you get from Gallagher and He Who Shall Not Be Named. Gallagher’s carry distance and # of carries is pretty low, but he is very good at driving into the box. He operates a lot higher up the pitch than both Soucek and HWSNBN.
Saints turn down West Ham bid for Ward-Prowse Southampton Director of Football Jason Wilcox has confirmed the club rejected a bid from West Ham United for captain James Ward-Prowse. Sky Sports News has been told the bid was worth £20m - £17m initial payment plus £3m in performance related add-ons. Wilcox says the club don't have to sell but will consider the right offer. West Ham are expected to go back in with an improved bid.
Leicester have set the precedent really; they reportedly got £40m for Maddison and £38m for Barnes, so Southampton pricing JWP at something similar isn't that outrageous really. He's got a couple of years on the others, but he also has more England caps than them combined.
I would imagine a deal could be done for £28-30m. Sell-on value would probably come into play, too.
Fulham obviously don't want to sell and have set the £80m price to discourage offers but on top of that reports are that Liverpool want him to replace Fabinho who is yet another player supposedly going to Saudi Arabia
If its a choice between us and Liverpool I think we all know where any player is going to pick
Pochettino has said that Gallagher is in his plans so he's going nowhere
As for Alex Scott Wolves are willing to meet Bristol City's asking price of £25m after having a £22m bid rejected but apparently they need to sell first in order to raise funds
Reports yesterday suggested we're out of the Alvarez race because of his agent's demands. Might be something that changes towards the end of the window.
I don't think that DM position will be filled until very late on. I think the club will be happy to wait out on McTominay's value, Alvarez's agents etc.
I see people moaning about a rumoured £38m buyback clause for Borges and not being worth it. Obviously, you'd ideally want to control what you sell him for if he plays really well but it would be one of our best profits on sales in recent times (maybe ever, not counting Rice?) and if he plays well enough for City to want him back then surely it's better to have him for a while than not have him because we turned down their condition? Football Twitter can be so stupid.

I think Soucek will be the DM with Paqueta and Fornals (or JWP maybe) ahead of him.
