  • £37m plus add-ons rejected last week according to Steinberg.

“For the last two years my Instagram account continues to be filled with transfer gossip posts that I am tagged in,” Scamacca told Cronache di Spogliatoio.

“Many consider me to be an unexpressed talent. I know that I have quality we haven’t seen yet, but I am also 100 per cent sure that whoever signs me will be getting a bargain.

“I just think I need to be in the right place at the right time. I don’t know what that will be exactly, we can only discover that by living life.”
  • So we have Steinberg saying the Gallagher bid was rejected and we won't go higher, and FabRom saying the bid is in and Chelsea haven't given their answer yet.

    Battle of the ITKs.

    Choose your fighter.
  • All going on tonight.

Reports of bids going in for Gallagher, McTominay and Ward-Prowse.
  • In my view
Gallagher offers most potential and could be a bargain and make us miss Rice least.
    JWP the safest best
McTominay Most likely to disappoint and be a waste of money.
  • Says on Sky that Chelsea value Gallagher 'well in excess' of 40M. If that's the case then I know Spurs won't be competition for him as Levy is way too tight to put up tht much. As for us, I'd like him but IMO he is NOT worth anywhere near in excess of 40M!

#Only Michael Hutchence is worth in excess ;)
  • I dont think McTominay is a bad player but I would be underwhelmed if we saw him as part of the Rice replacement and I'd be a little more bored with how we play too

25-30M would see us bomb out Wolves for Scott and I'd rather have him than Gallagher, JWP or Mactominey (Ok I'd rather have Scott and Gallagher)
  • I think Origi, if we get him, will be Antonio's replacement. Also, Scamacca's rep etc is still intact and the only we should sell would be for a healthy profit. If he stayts and does we this season then thats even more the case
  • Carlos Borges just liked the Conor Gallagher West Ham bid on

Picked this up from a rare twitter excursion
  • £45m for Connor Gallagher 😂
  • I think everyone has to accept that whatever people think a player is worth, add another 10 - 20 million on top of it. Seems like you can get anything for £40m these days.
  • Except the lesser spotted Gallagher. Great at Palace, not so great in the Chelsea environment.
  • Morning updates seem to suggest that the Gallagher bid has been rejected, and a 'verbal offer' for McTominay has shown a big difference in valuation between us and Man Utd.

So it would appear that we're as far away from strengthening the midfield as we have been.

This is a good point. Rice going for £105m has inflated the market, IMO. And we can't expect teams to not do to us what we did to Arsenal, particularly as everyone knows how much money we have available.
  • And this is the point. No way would we be quoted £50m for Gallagher if this was the final week of August.
  • According to Ex we have 'initial' bids in for around 10 players, including Gallagher.

So Gallagher, McTominay & Ward-Prowse costs you a combined £140m?

No wonder we can’t sign anybody.
  • Can see why, we need another 2/3 players to meet HG quota rule.
  • I'd be very happy if we got Gallagher. If we have to I think we just need to stump up the cash.

That's right. I make it we have 7 HG players currently and with the futures of Antonio, Cresswell, Downes, Johnson and Coventry up in the air we need to be buying HG players.

So look elsewhere. The European market is where you'll probably find more value but it's been reported that Moyes wants PL experience. That comes at a cost.

So we seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place. Collectively we seem to want PL-proven players but won't meet the club's valuations. The only way around that is to buy players like Alvarez, Fofana, Sangare, Zakaria and hope they settle quickly.

It's why I'm surprised we haven't sealed the Zakaria signing. We still might, but he played in the PL last season, plays in a position that we need and is - relatively speaking cheap.
  • We also need HG players, though.

I agree with this, but I think, at the same time, you wouldn't be quoted £50m for Gallagher before Chelsea had already brought in €250m in transfers.

If we had gone like day 1 of the window with £35m, I think we'd have had a much better chance of getting him in than we do now. There were bargains to be had with Chelsea (Loftus-Cheek for £12m, Pulisic for £17m, Kovacic for £25m), but they don't need to do that anymore.

Very true. But Chelsea may have had a ‘we want to evaluate the squad’ stance at the start of the window. I don’t know, obviously, & this is a transfer speculation thread. But I just think these things are more complex than people make out (not just on here).

I just don’t believe the idea that we sit around for weeks doing nothing & there is no thought at all into our strategy - it may not be as good as other clubs, but it’s not completely inept.

    Yup.
  • Personally, I think Gallagher is lightweight. I would be concerned if he was a first 11 player. I certainly would not pay £50m for him. He had a reasonable season at Palace a couple of years ago but nothing more.

We just have to admit it whether we like it or not doing straight forward deals and identifying targets who are actually available is not our strong point.
I get Luke's point about better value deals to be done towards the end of the window BUT IMO we should have identified Rice's replacement long time ago, not someone we admire or might make a bid

Guess it depends what our situation is at the end of the transfer window, “ the proof will be in the pudding as such “🥮 👍🏻⚒️
  • I always thought Moyes was a bit of a Spotted Dick

  • No… Has to be that not so nice Scottish dish Cranachan, not pleasant IMO 🤣
  • This transfer window is turning into a right Eton Mess (as always)!
