That’s a decent 11 if that’s the side for Bournemouth.
I agree, but what if we pick up the usual injuries and suspensions etc , think we all know that the numbers are short when it comes to a complete squad. We need IMO a minimum of 3 in, but on what is being reported with the possibility of a few more leaving, even more than 3 if that happens…
@IronHerb, He has to learn that his choices aren’t always the right or best ones for the long term future of the club. IF he is only here for this season then paying large fees for the battle hardened EPL players won’t be seen as an issue to him but then for the next campaign we will have an even older squad when that needs addressing now IMHO.
Divock Origi is attracting interest from West Ham United and a move there could see AS Roma land their main target, a report claims. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gianluca Scamacca is the striker that Roma want for next season but he has returned to London to begin preseason preparations with West Ham, while waiting for news on his future.
No, you're quite right. We don't have anything to worry about this coming season. The squad is in great nick, for the most part. I reckon we bank the money, not spend any of it.
We are going to do what always seem to do and that's leave it to the last minute. Moyes seemed to indicate that getting in our players late and not having a full pre season was one of the causes of why things weren't working for most part in the league. Yet here we are again, looking like it will happen again.
Plus Potts, Mubama etc as possible options from the U21s.
Clearly we are short in the wide area (although Cornet could play there) & CM, but other than that we are well stocked for the start of the season.
The counter argument is that this squad lost 20 PL games last season. And that was with our £105m midfielder.
Some might say that they can be coached to be better, but we have the same set of coaches, minus Warburton and Nevin.
We go into our final two pre-season games with a weaker squad than we had when we won in Prague. I don't think anyone can argue otherwise.
And whilst I accept that there's still time to sign players, and no doubt we will, Preston's point is entirely valid; Moyes said we weren't prepared for the start of last season and we suffered as a result. Twelve months on and we appear to be in exactly the same position.
I've said it before, but if Rice dropped a bomb on the club and handed in a transfer request on the 8th June, then I could understand us struggling to get a replacement in. But we've had at least a year to prepare. I just can't get my head around the idea that we still don't seem to know who we want, or think we can get.
Paqueta was, according to Moyes, brought to provide '10 goals and 10 assists', so nothing like a Rice replacement.
I can see the argument for Downes, but Moyes didn't play him even when Soucek was struggling for any kind of form last season. Clearly not rated highly enough to be considered a Rice replacement.
If there was any kind of succession planning or forward thinking at the club, we would have spent £20m on Palhinha last summer as an immediate upgrade on Soucek and eventual Rice replacement.

So glad Zaha is going somewhere/anywhere else, I don't think I could watch us play with him in the team
Barnes going to Newcastle is no surprise, they've got Champions League and have all the Saudi money. The question is what happens with Saint-Maximin
Not that there's any suggestion that Saudi money has allowed a Saudi-owned club to be able to generate funds to strengthen their squad.
Glorious. Just need Eze to leave now.
Squad is currently:
GK: Fabianski, Areola
CB: Aguerd, Zouma, Kehrer, Ogbonna
FB: Emerson, Cresswell, Coufal, Johnson
CM/AM: Soucek, Downes, Paqueta, Fornals
WG: Bowen, Benrahma
ST: Scamacca, Antonio, Ings, Cornet
Plus Potts, Mubama etc as possible options from the U21s.

The knee-jerk modern day reaction in football during a transfer window is embarrassing.

IMO, of course.
