  • Here we go again.
How do you know all this stuff?
How do you know that replacements haven’t been spoken to?
How do you really know what’s going on?

The answers are that you don’t, but hey let’s have a good old moan eh?
  • @IronHerb, See you conveniently didn’t comment on the Bournemouth signing. 😉
@Slacker, Aston Villa made signings prior to Grealish leaving them the other season. We should have had lots of players to go for mainly not the ones we have so far reported to have made bids on IMHO. David Moyes Red Bull project still under wraps?

I don't worry about other clubs business.
  • The Clubs transfer dealings is tinpot. We didn't even have a replacement ready to go when Rice was sold. We're still chucking bids out with zero clue to whether they will be accepted. Should have had these conversations 3 weeks ago before Rice was sold.
Actually disgusting watching how Brighton and others conduct business. Sell a player with someone lined up ready to come in within the week. Bids accepted straight away and looking onto the next one.
Meanwhile West Ham making bids to get rejected and jumping from target to target.

I'm pretty sure you said this last year and we spent c.£150m.

And those transfers worked out well for us?

Arsenal managed to get 3 big signings done quickly and we've all known decs would be sold this summer. Why cant we be concerned that we've lost our best player and nothing has been done about replacing him yet? I think we can be a bit concerned after the amount of money that was wasted last season.
  • Again, how do you know what’s going on?
  • People are allowed to speculate on a transfer speculation thread.
  • Got to admire Arsenal's ability to get their priority deals done, and done early. Having the money they do helps, obviously, but they had three key targets and all have been secured and get a decent amount of pre-season to bed in.

Whilst we're not in the same league financially, the fact is that we're in our strongest position for decades as European champions with EL football this season but don't seem to be able to capitalise on it. To not have Rice's replacement lined up is not good enough, IMO, and indicative of a club that doesn't have a long-term strategy. Hopefully Steidten has been brought in to fix that, but I find it strange that we haven't seen or heard anything from him bar a few words when his appointment was announced.

    Areola - yes
    Paqueta - yes
    Aguerd - yes
    Emmerson - yes
Scamacca - injured but showed good signs
Cornet - injured so don't know
Kehrer - poor start but improving
    Downes - ok

Who said anyone can't be concerned?
  • Conor Gallagher appears to be the big rumour at the moment. If that were to come off, I would be very happy.

For me, Rice & Soucek, at their best, offered three main things: 1) defensive acumen - breaking up play, keeping the ball, combative, 2) driving runs, lots of energy, very mobile, 3) goal threat.

I think Gallagher can replace parts 2 & 3, and then if were to also bring in someone like Zakaria, Alvarez or Palhinha we'd have part 1 covered. A midfield trio of Alvarez / Gallagher / Paqueta would be very good for us, IMO.
  • We’d have found it really difficult if not impossible to tie up transfers that early. Arsenal were talking to their targets in January and practically agreeing terms. They were in top place in the league. We were one of the favourites to go down until the end of April so not many players would commit to us before then.

No doubt, but some of this stuff isn’t speculation .

  • speculation
    noun
the forming of a theory or conjecture without firm evidence.

Thanks for that, things you learn.

    Is this speculation?

  • Perhaps if certain people don’t enjoy what they read they could avoid this thread till signings are done, then they can congratulate the club for getting a deal done, IMO of course
  • I thought this was an open forum. 🤷‍♂️

    It's conjecture:

    Conjecture
    noun
an opinion or conclusion formed on the basis of incomplete information

So based on alderz's given definition of speculation, yes.
  • I think conjecture, speculation should be added to the title. Along with made up stuff from Romano and co as well hahaha.

Gallagher's an interesting one. Looked really good during his Palace stint, seems to have struggled since, but still gets called up by Southgate.

I think his work rate would appeal to Moyes; in fact, of all of the midfielders linked, I'd say him and McTominay are the two most Moyes type players.

You. You said people shouldn't avoid the thread if they don't enjoy it. Surely a counter opinion is valid.
  • To be fair, Jay didn't say that. He said people could avoid it if they don't like what they see.

The Sun says that Chelsea, Spurs, Newcastle and West Ham are interested in Maguire

However The Sun doesn't mention the good news that only three out of four could afford his wages =)
  • OCS, What are the most non David Moyes signings as recommended by Tim Steidten? 😉

Close the thread! We're not allowed to speculate haha

Paqueta - was poor until towards the end of the season
Emerson - had a few good games... even though i thought he was man of the match in some of those... plus he's only good if we have 3 cb's (in my opinion)
Scamacca - i think is a good player but doesnt suit moyes tactics
Cornet - agreed he was injured but even when he got fit he didnt really get given a chance by moyes
Downes - didnt get much of a chance even with soucek having a poor season.

Obviously my opinion, and i respect yours. I just find it weird that we get told not to moan or speculate in a transfer forum... not aimed at you btw

I would be happy with Gallagher. He has a good engine and scores goals

    Marouane Fellaini and Tim Cahill

Exactly OCS thanks for reading my post as it was wrote.

I purely suggested something, nowhere did I tell posters what to do 🤷‍♂️
  • Fair enough.

You said people could avoid the thread if they don't enjoy it. 👍

But a counter opinion is still valid.
  • Sometimes on here, I can't help being reminded of this. =)
