We have lost a CM captain, not a CB, while we might be short in that dept due to Zouma being another injury prone player etc etc I hope that Maguire isn’t our main priority… He’s not had it easy at Man U and if u read fans reacting they can’t wait for him to be gone…. That doesn’t mean he can’t recapture his form he once had, but IMO I’d like us to be a bit more “cute”’with our targets and avoid the expensive rejects…. Will be interesting to see where our club feel the Basmati ( can’t be bothered to mention his name) money is spent. Would rather look to the future… Maguire IMO is ok, but for some other team preferably ⚒️
Like it, but that's not the formation we played yesterday. We played with three CMs and Ings alongside Scamacca (first half) and Bowen alongside Mubama (second half) up front.
If that's Moyes’s formation, then arguably we don't need Barnes. He'd work well in a 4-3-3 but Maguire isn't great in a back four, IMO.
So our (reported) targets don't seem to necessarily work, unless Moyes is looking for maximum flexibility in his squad.
I don't think Steidten is here for this season. He might have a few suggestions, but I think this summer's signings will be more Moyes than him.
I think Steidten is here more for the mid- to long-term and hopefully our strategy going forward will reflect that.
I think you may be right OCS but that thought feels me with dread as Steidten's input, IF acting upon, and not dismissed by David Moyes, could see the new Arsenal players funds spent better than David Moyes going for the tried & trusted method of mainly only going for older EPL players who cost more than a few nuggets from Europe or South America would. They have the potential to develop into world beaters and could earn us a lot of money when sold on which we are almost certain to do. Let's show some ambition but with the manager hopefully in his last season, I hope I am wrong, but I can see him going for the safety option and blowing the money which will leave very little for Steidten to use in the next window or two.
I think that Steitden is here for now. The club praised his “instant impact” with Leverkusen, and how he is data driven, which seemed to me like someone who was coming in with some ideas.
I think Maguire only made something like 8 starts last season for Manure, if I was him and at his age and skill level, I would sit it out on the bench next season or go into the reserve team and pick up my £200k per week pay cheque. I don’t think I could bear to watch him in a West Ham shirt.
@alderz, I hope he is allowed to influence transfers from now going forward. I understand there has already been ground given so he is on the same level as David Moyes when it comes to agreeing on purchases when I had hoped he would report directly to David Sullivan in the hope we would get some more progressive looking signings.

Time will tell, but did we really need Steidten's input if we're going for Maguire, JWP, Palhinha, Barnes et al? We'd know all about them already, surely.
I think the last paragraph of Fortune's post is relevant here; I think Steidten is primarily here for next season as we won't have the Kretinsky investment that funded last summer's splurge, nor will we have the Rice money that's funding this window. He's here to find cheap gems for 2024 and beyond, IMO.

Maybe the fact we’ve got a new director to lead our transfer strategy and we’re still rumoured to be looking at the same (or similar) players then we can have extra confidence that they have been properly considered and scouted.

Possibly. But my point is that without Steidten, I'm pretty sure the targets would have been the same. So I don't know that he's had a huge influence on our plans this summer.
Hopefully he might have a couple of aces up his sleeve. We've been linked with Osario and the young Brazilian kid, which could be Steidten recommendations that we might look at getting now for the future.
With Silva refusing to sign a new contract I can see this happening at an affordable price. If the manager won't commit why should the players? He's not Rice but he had a pretty good season.
We've got a huge rebuilding project over the next few seasons given the current age of our squad, and, given the huge boost to our transfer kitty from the sale of Rice, that project starts now. We need to spend wisely this summer to reduce the work required in the next few seasons (Ogbonna, Cresswell and Fabianski have already been extended and will surely go next summer as well as Antonio if he hasn't already left by then; replacing those 4 could easily be next summer's transfer pot already accounted for).
Imo Steidten is expected to have a say this summer as well as going forward; we're in real trouble if we don't use this summer to start a long term plan on the right foot, and that doesn't include wasting most of our available resources on players in their late 20s and 30s.
I’m not sure 30 is as old as it once was in football, tbh. Lots of players are playing at the top level through to their mid 30s in a way that wasn’t so typical even 4 or 5 years ago. I get that people want the age brought down, but personally I’m not worried about the idea of us signing guys in their late 20s
I agree with IronHerb, Fulham seem to be a bit of a mess right now; Mitrovic wants out to Saudi, Willian is refusing to sign a new deal, Silva is refusing to commit based on the lack of transfers. There may be some uncertainty there we can exploit.

Palhinha & McTominay would replace a lot of the attributes Rice offers. Maybe not to the same level, but they are pretty good options. Seems Zakaria is close on loan with option/obligation to buy. Alvarez could well be the back-up to Palhinha as not sure we need both.
It’ll be one of Palhinha and Alvarez I reckon. Either that, or the plan is to play the two of them together very defensively in the middle to allow Paqueta to basically play as a second striker.
I think we could get Alverez cheaper than Paulinho purely becuse the latter has prem experience/has already done well here.
I also think the new guy being stats driven (a la Brentford) means he definteily would've been studying prior to his appointment here. So no reason not to be up and running straight away.
We should just take Dele off Everton. Surely they''d snap our hands off and he'll be a free transfer. Either works out or if not we didnt pay a fee. There's still a player in there and if he's right in the head there's no reason why he cant be good again. Yes, I am happy to gamble with the boards money
Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest updates on West Ham’s plans in the market as they look for new signings in midfield. Writing in the latest edition of his exclusive CaughtOffside column, Romano explained that West Ham are among the clubs to have shown an interest in Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who would undoubtedly be a fine option to replace Declan Rice this summer following his big move to Arsenal.
However, Amrabat seemingly has other priorities, leading the Hammers to focus on other midfield options, including Ajax ace Edson Alvarez and Fulham’s Joao Palhinha. Romano also played down West Ham links with Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, stating that Newcastle United remain the favourites for the Foxes ace and that they hope to get the deal done as soon as possible. “As mentioned, West Ham asked about Amrabat, but are now looking at Fulham’s Joao Palhinha as their priority target for the midfield. Edson Alvarez of Ajax is also appreciated,” Romano said.
“I’m also aware of some reports linking West Ham with Harvey Barnes, but my understanding remains that Newcastle are the favourites for his signature and want to get it done as soon as possible.”
Whoever comes in will have a maximum of three pre-season games to settle in. And that's assuming we sign someone in the next five days, which doesn't look likely.
So probably just two games left. Considering we will have to sign two players to replace Rice in a key position, I'm frustrated that we don't appear to have much of an advanced plan to get them nailed down.
Zakaria has been 'close' for about a month now. Palhinha seems too out of reach at a reported £60m. Alvarez has just finished playing in the Gold Cup so will now, presumably, go on holiday. Amrabat feels like a Paqueta situation, whereby he'll only consider us late in the window if a CL team doesn't come in for him.
I'm sure we're doing things in the background, but it feels like there's a real lack of urgency. Ideally, you wouldn't let a player so integral to your team go without a replacement being signed first, let alone allowing another week or two (or three) to pass before bringing someone in.
We're 26 days away from the new season, have lost two first team squad players and two first team coaches, with no replacements for any of them seemingly close.

Who knows. We might get to find out soon. And by soon I mean last week of August.
