Leicester won the title 2015-16, Maguire was at Hull in the Championship but wasn't even a first team regular (25 starts out of a possible 52),
2016 Hull were promoted through the playoffs but went straight back down again, Maguire was Hull player of the year 2016/17 and he went to Leicester in the summer
Noooooo to Maguire?! He is the totally overrated as a footballer. Also, most of our players pay with a smile on their faces. Those that don't seem to leave, or don't fit in with our "team spirit". Playing with Maguire would be like having a pint with the Grim Reaper! (IMO obviously) 😁⚒️ ....... and what would it say to every other centre back about their chances with Moyes?
West Ham weigh up Maguire move West Ham United are interested in signing Manchester United captain Harry Maguire. It is thought the club are exploring the option of both a loan and a permanent deal for the England international.
However, the Hammers are aware wages could prove to be a problem IF a deal was to be agreed between the clubs. United manager Erik ten Hag has always maintained any decision will effectively rest with the player himself. Other options West Ham are looking at are Torino's Perr Schuurs, Bayer Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah and Luiz Felipe from Real Betis.
West Ham monitoring several midfielders to replace Rice: McTominay, Zakaria, Ward-Prowse, Palhinha & Alvarez on shortlist Some more news from West Ham, who are looking at a number of midfielders following the departure of Declan Rice. Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is a player they’ve watched over a long period and remain interested in. Meanwhile, talks continue with Juventus over the signing of Denis Zakaria, although a gap in valuation still exists. The club's long-standing interest in Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse also remains – but no official approach has been made yet. And Fulham’s Joao Palhinha has been a target too, however, initial talks revealed a huge gap in valuations, while discussions have also been held with Ajax over Edson Alvarez.
Maguire at anything other than a no-obligation loan or a Dawsonesque price is a MASSIVE no. Too old, too slow, too error-prone and undoubtedly too expensive. 8 starts in the PL last season, even Shaw was starting ahead of him in a flat back 4. Added to this, although he's right footed, he prefers to play on the left of a CB pairing, and what we really need is someone to play on the right to cover Zouma's inevitable absenses.
I won't deny that Moyes would get a better tune out of him than ETH, but he won't make him any faster, and he'd be playing without the protection of a Man Utd badge on his shirt ("no penalty, the ball's travelled too far" after a clear handball).
The squad's already too old, bringing a player in his 30's in for a good chunk of money is a luxury we can't afford given we'll only get 3 or maybe 4 seasons out of him; we need to be more savvy than that.

I actually think this is the main reason I wouldn’t personally sign him. I don’t agree with most of the comments that he’s not a good play, I think he’s a lot, lot better than people will admit, and the fact he’s become a meme has completely warped our collective ability to appraise the guy accurately (IMO).
BUT yeah, he plays in the same position as both Aguerd and Ogbonna, and he gets paid a ridiculous salary. I think he’s better than Oggy, I think there’s not a lot between him and Aguerd, so why change?
Thanks for the correction about Maguire and the title winning side, my mistake. I recalled him playing really well for them which is what caused united to pay what they did for him, got my seasons mixed up.
Tutto Mercato reporting that Newcastle have offered Napoli £81m for 22yo Georgian left winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia which would leave us with a clear route to sign Harvey Barnes
Allegedly (Football Insider) we could have signed Kvaratskhelia in January 2022 for £13m
Just as well we didn't as I don't think we could pronounce his name or guarantee that the club shop would get the spelling right on a replica shirt!

How long does he have to play in Newcastle before he’s just called Kev?
But unless Moyes goes to a back three, where is Maguire going to play? He plays on the left, for which we already have Aguerd and Ogbonna.
I hope the Maguire talk is a smokescreen. We need a quality CB because Zouma will have time out injured, but they need to be right-sided and prepared - which I'm not convinced Maguire would be - to bide their time in getting in the team.
There must be more suitable players out these for what we need.
Ten Hag must know that absolutely no one is going to pay £40m for Maguire so what's the plan?
It's just an opening negotiating position though, isn't it? They obviously never expect to get £40m for him, but they might get £25m. If they price him at £25m, they'd be less likely to get the full amount.

I think Steidten is here more for the mid- to long-term and hopefully our strategy going forward will reflect that.

Peer Schuurs could be London bound if this report is accurate, South London though...

Not going to bad-mouth any CB signings, after Craig Dawson.
I think he’s closer to the level of a Dawson than what he was made out to be and that’s perfectly fine.
