    Another value 😂

West Ham accept Diop offer from Fulham
West Ham have accepted an offer from Fulham for defender Issa Diop.
The fee is understood to be £13m plus add-ons with the 25-year-old signing a five-year contract.
Diop is expected to have a medical in next 24-48 hours.

Ex says £17mil with all bonuses included

So take your pick....£15mil is average so I'll take that
  • So we have x5 first team squad gone with Noble, Kral, Yarmo, Fredericks and Arthur. As well as that we have lost Alese, Perkins, Holland and Martin.

So 9 out and 5 in. If we let Diop, Vlasic and Benhrama go we are 7 short on last season.

Yesterday showed our lack of depth in the squad despite our 5 signings. We need at least 3 if not 4 first team signings imminently.
  • While I'm at it, I was dreaming about Cornet scoring the winner in the FA Cup Final and a photo of him holding the Cup aloft with the inevitable Sun headline "Maxwell's a Silver Hammer".

Boom! Boom! Or should I say Bang Bang?
  • Lukerz, We must have someone lined up, Szalai if the rumours are correct, as Senesi is reported to be joining Bournemouth again if the stories are true. He has said he doesn't want to play so he may as well leave & we can use the money to strengthen elsewhere, Vestergaard turn Fulham down. Should be a busy few weeks at the London Stadium, well it needs to be.

If Diop refused to play then it's a case of getting him out of the Club irrespective of replacements.

‘Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Corriere dello Sport report Juventus could finalise a deal to sign Filip Kostic today.’
  • It’s not numbers I’m worried about as much as I don’t like too much change over in a squad. A lot of those who went out had almost no impact in the squad so worn be missed but to lose Diop and potentially Benrahma and maybe replace Cresswell - that’s a lot of change. Yes some of these players have shortcomings but they’ve also had good games and don’t think they’re disasters. I was pretty happy with our transfer dealings but I hope we don’t go too far!
  • EXETERHAMMER, 👍 This is what people have been saying since the window opened but there are so many issues to deal with including David Moyes way of deciding on transfers! Weak squad numbers wise last season likely to be further reduced so where are the recruits coming from?

We've made 5 first team signings...
  • Let’s hijack the Arnie deal 💪🏿

If you're gonna include the likes of Perkins/Holland/Alese why not include Marshall, Kelly or Briggs? Although tbf I wouldn't include either group

The 4 you mentioned clearly dont appear to be good enough given the teams they've joined

So it's 5 out and 5 in....and a HUGE quality difference as other than Noble the other 4 just weren't good enough

Also it appears as though both Ashby and Coventry have been drafted into the first team squad to take Fredericks and Kral spots as emergency options

WHU, How many have we lost from last seasons first team squad? EXETER mentioned in his post @ 12.00 Nine players have left who were either in or around the team. One that was found to be wanting for strength in depth when fatigue set in and injuries beset us at the end of the last campaign. We need a new LB, someone to allow Rice and Soucek to be rested occasionally, is that Downes or Coventry, I not too sure otherwise why were we in for Onana? I know people don't go much on what is in the media but anyway the reports today are we still are looking for a LB, CB & Midfielder. The last one may be a CDM or CAM. Do you think we will not replace Vlasic or Benrahma if they go before the 31st?
  • Multiple reports in Italy claim Nikola Vlašić is pushing to join Torino from West Ham, although the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement.
The Croatia international has been struggling with playing time since his €30m move to London a year ago.

Torino boss Ivan Juric sees him as an ideal candidate to add unpredictability to the Granata’s final third and is willing to work with his compatriot at the Stadio Grande Torino.

Tuttosport newspaper and Calciomercato.com report Vlasic is pushing to join the Granata where he’d get regular playing time.
However, Torino can only get the player on loan with an option to buy, while West Ham want to add an obligation to buy in the deal. The Hammers would need at least €24m to avoid a capital loss.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the Granata have already made an opening bid for the 24-year-old.
Torino director Davide Vagnati is in contact with the player’s agents and will soon meet Vlasic’s entourage and West Ham directors trying to finalise the deal.
  • Crazy we are on course for a smaller squad than last year which was already threadbare
  • Can I start the relegation thread now? 😜

We've lost 5, Noble, Yarmolenko, Fredericks, Arthur and Kral

Perkins, Holland, Alese and Martin were not "in or around the first team" hence the lack of caps

Kral played about 5 minutes of football and was awful, Fredericks and Masuaku couldn't keep themselves fit and when they were they were liabilities

Fredericks and Krals spots have already been replaced by Ashby and Coventry and Masuaku arguably has been replaced by Cornet

I've said I want a new CB to replace Diop, a new LB to replace Cresswell and a new CM

But that doesn't change the fact that I can't see how we've lost 9 first team players

And I'm sure if we are selling Diop, Vlasic and Benrahma (none of which other than Diop has any legs atm] then we'll be getting I'm better quality replacements which is far more important that just numbers

Herb, surely it should be "Boom Bang A Bang"
  • WHU, I really hope you are right but this is West Ham. I am still getting over the past few transfer windows. 😉

What last few transfer windows? The ones where we signed Fornals, Bowen, Soucek, Benrahma, Coufal & Zouma? Who make up half our 11? I don’t get it. It’s like we haven’t made a signing since 2019.
  • When’s it over this never ever ending transfer window? Can’t wait to get back to actual football and folks moaning that we haven’t brought in seventeen new players.

In the 3 windows before this one haven't we only made 2 or 3 permanent new (ie not making permanent players we already had here on loan) signings, of which Zouma is the only one in your list? I think you're looking further back than the "few" Fortune was probably referring to.

Thanks Buffy for coming to my assistance. 😃. The key problem with the last few windows has been no striker signed. 👍

The reason our squad was threadbare last season was not pure numbers. It was because most of the subs offered no impact. Replacing those who were just filling the squad numbers with better players will make a big difference and we have been doing that. Cornet, Downes, Scamacca. They all have the ability to improve the bench or push a starter to the bench. Add in Aguerd, who I guess pushes Dawson to the bench, and that’s 4 more options from the bench that we didn’t have last season.

Kral, Yarmolenko etc. were so useless we never expected them to come on.
  • Yeah, I think the issue for a lot of us is that we're having to have a rebuild this window because of our largely poor business over the last two windows.

Last summer we bought in Zouma (great signing), Areola on loan (good signing), Kral and Vlasic (barely used by the manager). 50% of our main signings failed to make an impact on the team.

In January, well, we all know what happened there.

So I believe the frustration is because after we finished 6th and coming so close to the CL, our subsequent business before this summer has been largely rubbish. We now have to play catch up and try to sign and integrate 6 or 7 new players (and that's Moyes' want, by the way, not just us forum 'moaners') in this window.

Had we signed another player last summer, and 2 or 3 in January, then we wouldn't be under such pressure to fill out the squad this time round.
  • For the amount of games we'll hopefully be playing this season, we need two good options per position. We currently have:

    Fab/Areola
    Coufal/Johnson
    Cresswell/
    Zouma/Dawson
Aguerd/Ogbonna (question marks over his long-term durability)

    Rice/Downes
    Soucek/Coventry (jury's still out)

    Bowen/
    Fornals/Lanzini
    Cornet/Benrahma (likely to be sold)

    Scamacca/Antonio

So it's clear to me that we need a LB, CB (at least on loan to cover Aguerd and Og), and a RW as a minimum. We will also need cover on the left, assuming that Benrahma and Vlasic are let go, and quite possibly a better CM option than Coventry (the fact we bid £40m for Onana shows that Moyes thinks so too).

So I make it five players needed in the next three weeks if we want a strong and balanced squad.
  • Which I think we’ll get, albeit a couple of loan deals.

Personally, I have no issue with our business so far (the numbers, who we have signed & who we have let go). What I worry about is doing that all in one window as squad overhauls usually need a transitional season, & we may need to be prepared for that this year.
  • edited August 2022
We also need another CM, not a Fornals & Lanzini type. Somebody who can come in during a game like yesterday & help Rice & Soucek out, playing with them in a 4-3-3. That closes gaps in the middle that we had yesterday, because Fornals is always on the left & Lanzini is too high.
  • I don't think there's any doubt that this will be a transitional season. But the risk with that is that we will lose pace with the top six which in turn may jeopardise our ability to attract and maybe even keep the players we need to push on again.

And that's why I'm so frustrated with our business over the last two windows. No guarantees in football, of course, but I do feel like our CL ship has sailed.

Oh just because the window is closed doesn't mean people still won't be going on about it
  • I don’t think our CL ship was ever really in our port. The season we just missed out was because for us we out performed and the normal CL teams underperformed nearly all pretty well at the same time. Can’t see that happening again but no reason why we shouldn’t regularly get into top 6 if we do our business right.
