Some will - Werner, for example, is reported to be prepared to take a pay cut to go back to Germany - but yeah, it's rare.
But I think the point is that players are choosing the PL for money rather than the prestige of playing in the PL.
I'm sure Kamara had plenty of suitors across the world, plenty of which I suspect would have been able to offer European football, but he chose Villa. Does anyone go to Villa for anything other than money nowadays?
I doubt any player moves to a club for less money than their current deal.
I'd qualify this by saying "any regular first team player". Werner and Coutinho are examples, but they are both players that aren't / weren't getting much game time.
I'm pretty Coutinho would have had other suitors who would have offered him regular game time. He is, or at least was, a world class player who couldn't quite cut it at Barca (not the first and certainly not the last).
No doubt Gerrard played a part in him going to Villa, but I suspect the reported £125k p/w was more of a pull than anything else.
Maybe I'm doing the PL a dis-service. It's arguably the most competitive top-flight league in the world, but I still think money is the biggest draw it has.
It’s hard to know for sure because the fact it’s the biggest league in the world means it is the most financially lucrative. Whether they go hand in hand for players or whether one trumps the other, not sure.
I think money is the biggest draw too. But I also don't think it's just the initial money move. Go to the Premier League with a mid table club, and maybe in a year or two you've got one of the big clubs in the world after you. Kante, Mahrez, Jota. All examples of players going to smaller English clubs (at the time of the move at least), and getting a mega move when it works out. Premier League is the best shop window in the world, imo.

Yeah, I think a lot of PL clubs are used as stepping stones because they have the biggest global exposure.
And to be honest, I think that's how Scamacca has viewed us. I may be wrong, but I think he sees a couple of seasons (hopefully) scoring 15+ goals with us will get him a move to one of the European big boys. Sassuolo to West Ham is a step up, but it's obviously not the final wrung of the ladder.
Rumoured (not for the first time either) Arsenal sniffing around Bowen (hope hes been sweating in the fields). The Sun (I know) reckon we want 75M for him. They were interested in Raphina for around 60M
Would he want to rotate with Saka?
Do we think thats a good price?
Now Liverpool dont need him, is there any other team above us in the league that would want him for stupid money?
I'd be beyond furious if this tempted him (and if we refused he didnt play well). Outside of Rice he's our most valuable player
West Ham in Cornet talks West Ham have held initial talks with Burnley over the signing of Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet. The Hammers are thought to favour a loan for the 25-year-old Ivory Coast international. Cornet was not involved in the Burnley squad for their opening Sky Bet Championship game at Huddersfield Town, with manager Vincent Kompany saying he wasn’t at the “right physical level”. Last month, Sky Sports News reported Everton were in talks about signing Cornet, who is understood to have a £17.5million release clause in his contract.
Cornet is a very sensible deal to give us an option on the LW. He can play across the front line, has lots of pace, very technically talented, clinical finisher, good age. I mean this is such a sensible deal.

We've gone for a loan, apparently. It will get a big earner off Burnley's book so I can see them agreeing if there's an option to buy; after all, if they come back up next season they may even want him back.
But I imagine with a relatively low release clause (£17.5m), there may be clubs out there prepared to meet that whilst we're negotiating a loan.
I did read somewhere that there was an issue over the release clause as Burnley were claiming it was no longer valid as it was made public. It could be possible there is a compromise in that they let him out on loan for the season for a fee and wages but he returns to them if they gain promotion. It's probably more likely he is sold but could be a bit of an issue over the release as he is probably worth a bit more than 17.5m
According to Ex we're looking at a loan because we have concerns over his injury history.
Had a quick look at Transfermarkt and he's had a few over the years:
I get the concerns; quite a few niggly looking injuries and a couple of repeaters, but he passed a PL medical so you'd have to believe there's nothing too much going on.
Why on earth would Burnley or Kompany sanction any kind of loan deal ? their goal is to get back into the PL. Surely its a case of if you want him the release clause is 17.5m pay up or move on.
I can't see this one being a goer at all. Unless we are prepared to meet that 17.5m valuation.

I'm assuming Burnley will need to balance their books somewhat. If we're offering, say, £2m for a season's loan with an option to pay another £15m next summer, it gets Cornet's wages off the books for a year, gives them a bit of spending money and let's them re-evaluate in a years time.
They may prefer a straight sale, but I can just about see the benefits of a loan, particularly if Cornet is picky about where he wants to go.

Remember when we went down and tried to loan out Scott Parker so that we didn't lose him forever?
Surely their wage ratio isn't that bad its unlikely Burnley were handing out any 6 figure contracts let alone they already culled a number of their squad from last season.
Isn't the issue with Burnley the fact that they have a financing deal that meant they'd have to repay £60-70m if they got relegated. That's a big chunk of their parachute payment gone immediately, and although they're looking to move players on (in part to reduce wage costs which won't be helped by the parachute payment now), they'll still need to bring bodies in to replace those that go.
So whilst a loan for Cornet might be better than nothing for them, I think they'd really much rather sell him.
They probably would, but if there's only a handful of teams that are prepared to meet the release clause and Cornet doesn't fancy any of them, Burnley are potentially stuck with his wages for 12 months.

His career had stalled and Stevie G offered him a fresh start

He'd spent 5 years with Liverpool, maybe he just wanted to come back to England cos he couldn't find a regular supply of Maltesers in Catalonia
Coutinho is a Toffiffee man.

I assume (hope) that it means we're confident of bringing in a left-sided player.
Happy with Cornet at LW (and he also offers an option up front), but still feel we need a LB as well.
Could work in our favour; both clubs were linked with Borna Sosa, who is supposedly on our radar. We could yet be the best PL club in for him.
