So Kostic would consider leaving Eintracht Frankfurt (1st ever season in the Champions League) for Juventus or Inter (10th and 5th consecutive seasons in the Champions League) but not for West Ham (never played in the Champions League)
It's a mystery...
I’m sure I read on Twitter from someone who says he knows about these things that Kostic used to stand on the old North Bank as a kid, so there is that.
It sounds to me he wants a big move & would rather stay at Frankfurt if this doesn’t materialise. Frankfurt have an agreement with West Ham (probably wanting to sell him to make some money) but the player has no agreement with us (or maybe he does on terms but hasn’t green lighted the move). Whilst the Champions League will be a big draw for him, there is also the draw of PL.
I understand Frankfurt's position; £16m now or he goes for nothing next summer.
I understand Kostic's position; likely his last big move so he has to decide between more money but a lower level of European football (and possibly none at all the season after next) in the PL, or less money but more likely to regularly be in EL/CL in Italy.
I understand Moyes's position; a very good player available at a very good price who would immediately improve the first eleven.
Just a shame that it could drag on all month and potential mean we lose out on alternatives if either Juve or Inter eventually bite.
I suspect the draw of the Premier League is a lot stronger if the club involved is City, Liverpool or Chelsea
I somehow doubt many players would consider quitting the Bundesliga and Champions League to play for Wolves or Brighton
Aguerd gave up 4th place Rennes for us. Carlos gave up 4th place Sevilla for Villa. Kamara gave up 2nd in Ligue 1 for Villa. Coutinho gave up Barca for Villa. Hwang Hee-chan gave up 4th place Leipzig for Wolves.
Has Masuaka been part of the first team squad - Yes. Are we up to full capacity numbers wise in the first team squad - I would say definitely not so him leaving means his place will need filling. So back to looking for some left sided players I reckon.
We have been looking at left sided platers throughout the window - Onana - left sided Kostic - left sided Thomas - left sided Taylor - left sided Zielinski - left footed

The point I was making was in reference to Yeold saying it increased the chances of bringing in a LB, which I would contest. I'm not saying we don't desperately still need players but the huge need for a new LB would be there regardless of whether we keep Masuaku or loaned him out.

The pull of the PL is strong.
Ligue 1 is a lower level in quality and financially compared to the Premier League so for Aguerd and Kamara it was definitely a step up.
Kamara signed with Villa on a free and reports are that he's getting double what he was being paid at OM. The pull of the £££ is strong
Coutinho left Barcelona for Villa because he clearly wasn't wanted. He'd only been there half a season before he went out on loan to Bayern Munich and last season he had 16 appearances but just 5 starts before he went on loan to Villa
Hwang Hee-chan was also a squad player at RB Leipzig, 26 appearances but only 5 starts in the season before he joined Wolves
Diego Carlos left Sevilla for the same reason Jules Kounde did. Despite finishing 4th in La Liga and qualifying for the Champions League Sevilla made a £33m pre-tax loss last year so they chose to cash in on their two most valuable players.
Kounde went to Barcelona instead of Chelsea and Carlos went to Villa not Newcastle because they offered the better deals to the players and to Sevilla

We're obviously the least preferred option of the three, but it sounds like he's still be prepared to sign for us.
If, of course, any of this is true.

I think it's going to be a very busy last week of this window.
No doubt he doesn't feature in Moyes’s long-term plans, but if he goes and we go with a back three, who's playing LWB?
I wonder if Moyes will abandon that formation until we have a replacement.

Platers 🤦♂️ sounds like an old ironworks thing. 😁
