The Transfer Window

  • If it was my post that was deemed as moaning, I can assure everyone that I can do a way better job than that in terms of moaning :)
  • Lukerz, That starting line up doesn’t show any improvement on last season? 🤔 That’s the problem I have with our lack of signings.

I doubt very much it was your post Baz 👍
  • Baz if you had moaned better, then OCS wouldn't be getting the flack he's seems to be getting, so it's your fault hahaha

I must be different then I s’pose, I think we’ve done pretty good in this window.

So do I. I think Aguerd and Scamacca are great signings. I think Downes is a really solid back up (from what I know about him), and I'm very happy that Areola is back.

I don’t quite understand why people are so negative about the transfer situation.
It looks very much like Rice is staying, we’ve signed 3 international players including the much wanted striker, a promising young midfielder and yet still the moaning continues.
    Just don’t get it.

I think most people are fairly open with why they are worried. The general consensus is that we are weak at left back, and lack depth in the attacking positions and central midfield.

The rumours coming out of the club are that Moyes wants another 3-4 (I think that is unlikely) but it seems like we’re not particularly close to any signings right now.

I also wouldn’t characterise most comments as ‘moaning’, personally. For me, it’s a fan base that hasn’t enjoyed pre season, and still thinks we lack depth.
Think people were moaning before the pre-season games tbf

I think we are weak in the areas you suggested but who doesn't need reinforcements?

The club have made 4 senior signings and spent circa £80mil plus while retaining our best players (unlike Everton, Leeds, Brighton who have lost big players).....would MUCH prefer us working like this than how we operated in 15/16 window getting in 11 senior players on the cheap and had an awful season

Just because we haven't had a perfect window, shouldn't make this a bad window

If transfer windows were that easy every single team would improve season by season which obviously is impossible

Moyes is clearly targeting someone for the left side and typically we make 2 loans moves a season whereas so far we've made none....don't see 4 signings being out the question
I agree with all of this. As I just said, I think we've had a good summer. I do think we have a lack of depth, and I do think we have a big weakness at left back. But I'm happy with what we have going into the season, personally.

Totally agree......but like my school report :
    Good but can do better!

I agree. Four very good signings. And I don't think anyone is saying otherwise.

The issue for some is that it isn't enough. That may be resolved over the next four weeks; I'm just a little concerned about what happens between now and then in terms of the next seven games.
  • I think if fans have unrealistic expectations they will always be disappointed

I will process this, learn from it and ultimately be a better moaner because if it

Baz, not particularly you or anyone else really I just think that there’s a general malaise on the transfer and match threads that seems to demand that it just beats the positvity out of me!😎
Sometimes it sounds like a bunch of old men down the pub having a right old moan about life/ wives/ music/ politics.😂

  • Right, now an attacking midfielder to fill the lack of Lingard signing (who I wouldn't touch with a bargepole ever again. I am not even bitter, just have a severe lack of respect).

Todays suggestion, and my best so far.... The Palace lad Eze. I don't know how much it'd take to get him but he's definitely a baller!
  • I think if fans have unrealistic expectations they will always be disappointed

I really don’t feel my expectations are unrealistic. I have been told on many occasions we can’t compete with last season’s top six or Newcastle on transfers but there are players well within our budget & no I don’t know how much ours is. We simply can’t expect to go into this season without more additions to the squad.

  • Eze is a great player. Quick, direct and everything we need in an attacking midfielder.

Unfortunately I don't think we have a chance. Moyes wanted him when he was at QPR but apparently we didn't have the funds to buy him at the time. Ended up with Benrahma on loan instead.

I actually think Palace are building something really good. I know it won't go down well in Clown Town, but I think they're a threat to us for top 8. Just can't see them selling one of their most exciting players to a rival.
  • I hope Moyes still has the desire for him and tests the water with a 35M chunk of not my money
  • We've still got a lot of business that we need to get done, and obviously there will be a limit on funds somewhere down the line. I've had a feeling for most of the window that if we don't get Onana (or Sangare who I'm surprised we're not linked to) then we might end up with Loftus-Cheek on loan as cover/rotation for Rice and Soucek. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world imo.

Ex saying kostic is staying at Frankfurt until he becomes a free agent

Tbh I take stuff from Ex about transfers with a huge pinch of salt.
  • He seems one of the very few 'ITK' people who is accurate a good percentage of the time. Do I think he's connected to Sullivan? Maybe :)
  • C&H is Sullivans mouthpiece.

    Alfredo Pedulla
HOME FOOTBALL MARKET THE BACKSCENE: KOSTIC REPROPOSED TO JUVE (WHO IS THINKING ABOUT IT) AND INTER (COOLER). THE WEST HAM ...

The background: Kostic re-proposed to Juve (who thinks about it) and Inter (colder). West Ham ...Filip Kostic has an agreement with West Ham, he hasn't signed yet, he may do it by Wednesday. All this because in the last few hours the winger expiring with Eintracht has been re-proposed to Juve and Inter. Juve will think about it again, Inter are colder today. In any case, 48-72 will not pass, in case of negative Italian answers, Kostic will sign for West Ham. (Google Translate)

    🤔
  • Yeah, read that earlier. Not sure how to feel about it. I mean, for a start is it true (not sure of Pedulla's credibility), but assuming for a second it is, do we want to be someone's third choice?

He's obviously a very good player and presumably Moyes wants him, so I'm all for it in that respect, but how committed will he be to the cause? I guess £120k a week should get him as committed as he needs to be.

I completely understand him wanting to give Juve and Inter time because they're massive clubs, so I guess maybe we should just be grateful we're in that mix.
  • You want top players, you have to compete with top sides & often hope they decide against the signing or can’t find the cash. I’m happy to be third choice & wait for other clubs to pull out if it means we sign a good player.

Yeah, I get that, but if he comes to us then if we're being honest it's only really for the money, and considering the muck that's been thrown at Lingard for doing the same thing by going to Forest, it does sit a little uncomfortably with me.

But I'd probably get over that when he starts slinging crosses in at Scamacca's beautiful bleached head.
  • And thats the key... how he'd perform on the pitch. I get that money is going to be a big factor. Lingard didn't lose my respect over wages. His circus build up allied to his (and agent) subsequent giving their word retraction was the kicker. Scamacca and co did so and look, they kept their word

    Exactly this for me

  • The way i read it - could be wrong - is that Kostic said he wanted to stay at Frankfurt. Deal off. Then suddenly Frankfurt start offering him around and that has struck something in Kostic so now he suddenly wants out. And tbh, there are clubs out there that we simply can't compete with, Juve and Inter being two of them. Simply the pull of the name is enough for us to be 'also rans' so if he wants to wait for their devision that's fine by me.

So in the latest round of Which Left Backs Are We Being Linked With, it's Sosa (Stuttgart), Grimaldo (Benfica), Angelino (RB Leipzig), Cornet (Burnley) and Hancko (Sparta Prague).

Feels like there'll be a bit of a domino effect soon. Raum to Leipzig and Cucurella to City appear to be the big money moves, which means Hoffenheim and Brighton will be looking with money to spend.

I reckon any new left back we sign won't be here until late in the window as we wait for the dust to settle.
  • Angelino would be my favourite. I think he's quality.

So Kostic would consider leaving Eintracht Frankfurt (1st ever season in the Champions League) for Juventus or Inter (10th and 5th consecutive seasons in the Champions League) but not for West Ham (never played in the Champions League)

    It's a mystery...
