So the story with Lingard is that he gave his word that he'd join us but then followed the money being offered in Nottingham.

Any coincidence that it's been revealed that Scamacca gave his word to us and kept it by turning down what was being offered in Paris?

If that info came from our side, could be a subtle dig at Lingard.
  • I think the Lingard deal was a strange as he got more money but on a one year contract. If he doesn't do so well he could struggle to get anywhere near the rumoured 200k he is getting next season.

As it was suggested that he had also been in talks with US clubs and Saudi clubs I wondered if the one year deal suited to try and get to the world cup and then go for the really big money in Saudi next season.
  • Lingard never wanted to leave Manchester, a year in Nottingham (80 miles) was preferable to two or three years in London (200 miles)

Or he just went for the money

Given our best ITK ExWHU said he was holding out for us to put in a better offer and would even accept less than Forest but we wouldn't improve our offer....I thin khe went for the money

He and his agent (his brother?) both likely got an 8 or even 9 figure signing on bonus.....they will likely get the same again in a years time

I just pray it's not us who's offering those fees

If our recruitment goes anything like reported this window, I'm hoping we'll be too good to need Lingard next summer.
  • I never thought he'd come and not bothered that he didn't
  • I do wonder if Lingard may have chosen Forest as he’d be guaranteed to start every week. If we sign the players we’re hoping to, maybe he wouldn’t get that here.

    Better off without him
Just think we saw the best of him in 2021.
  • I would’ve loved him at our place but in a way I can sort of understand what he’s done.At the end of the day money talks but IF he gave his word? Nah not having that.
  • Would have liked him but not that bothered. He definitely tailed of towards the end of his spell with us.

Not bothered that he didn’t come as I didn’t expect him to either. But I am bothered by how much time was wasted on him.

It's a far from subtle dig if you ask me.
  • If it came from outside I'd be disappointed.
  • It was on SSN but PSG May have been doing what we “used” to do and that’s put in a bid when it’s too late.
  • "West Ham's dreadful record of big-money signings with over £100m wasted on strikers" - AAhh ... and what might have been. Who would be a football manager.

At times, it seems like a game of monopoly and how the dice rolls.
Hopefully, with Moyes, it will be different but then Benrahma and Vlašić have not been a roaring success.
  • Lingard is going to have JLingz on his shirt for Forest next season ,he comes across as a manchild seems something a teenager would have as his gamertag when playing FIFA. Maybe I am getting old lol
  • I don't think he'd be allowed 91 under PL rules.

Was interested in this so I looked at the rules today. Literally the only rules are that it has to be a number between 1 & 99. Man City have had a player at 76, but that was a youth team player.

    I think Trent has 66
  • To paraphrase The Clash

    "I'm so bored with Lingard"

Yeah, I read that too, but have also seen people saying about new signings having to take lower available numbers.

I guess if the rules are 1-99, it's surprising there are so few bigger numbers in the English game compared to what you see abroad.
  • Little Exwhu update for those who care

    - Kostic bid rejected as what's been reported, although the club likely to go in pretty quickly with an offer that they expect to get accepted. Willing to offer him good wages as he has to reject champions league
    - Cornet is a back up option
    - Zielinski we're pushing, but it's "edging closer" but it's there is "still some way to go" both with Napoli and the player, similar to Kostic we have to convince him to not play in the champions league
    - Onana likely to be revisited if Zielinski doesn't look doable
    - Bereton-Diaz, Dennis & Sarr still on our list, but the club have priorities (Kostic & Zielinski) elsewhere so may visit these deals later in the window
    - Club still expect Issa Diop to move if Fulham increase their offer to around £20mil...we have a number of targets lined up with PSGs Diallo name dropped as a primary target (available for about £17mil)
    - Club want to sell Masuaku and Randolph, may have to settle for loans
    - Vlasic could still move on loan
    - Coventry has interest in championship and abroad but club are unsure whether to sell...same applies to some of our other youth guys but no one name dropped
    - Talk that Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal have interest in Bowne but club have no intention of selling
    - white/orange third kit close to being released....mixed reviews apparently

That's your daily dose of Ex
  • WHU, Thanks for the update always well received. 😁. Would prefer Onana over Zielinski but understand the latter can cover across the midfield so is more like a Moyes player. No new LB being linked but I did read somewhere that Diallo can play there as he is a left sided CH so could move over once Aguerd is fit?
  • Onana and Zielinski are not similar players other than being central midfielders. I said it the other day, but I do think that whichever we get will impact Soucek and Rice’s roles. Onana means that either of them are more likely to be able to go forward, if it’s Zielinski then they would need to be the holding midfielder and he’ll be the one that pushes on.

I mentioned this yesterday, do you see him as playing in a "2" with either Rice or Soucek, or further forward as more of a 10?
  • I’ve not watched him play, but his heatmaps and stats suggest that he can do both - deep for Poland, more advanced for Napoli. I think if we’re playing a team we expect to beat it’s probably better to have him and Rice in a 2 with someone else ahead of them. Against bigger teams he probably plays further forward in front of Rice and Soucek

The left back situation is making my head hurt a bit.

Kostic was mooted as a LB option by Ex weeks ago (i.e. our second choice after Raum), despite barely playing there in his career. So if he signs will he play LB in a back four? I know he can play LWB and LM, as he does with Frankfurt, so will fit in a back three, but what if we play a four? Does he play further forward and we employ a natural LB? If so, that means, presumably, Cresswell starting.

But if we were after Raum, it suggests that Moyes wants to replace Cresswell.

Diallo is another option, as he can play LCB and LB. Again, in a three he would work well, but is he good enough to play LB in a four?

In Aguerd's absence, is Moyes looking at:

    Coufal Zouma Diallo Cresswell
    Rice Zielinski Soucek
    Bowen Scamacca Kostic

    or

    Dawson Zouma Diallo
    Coufal Rice Soucek Kostic
    Zielinski
    Bowen Scamacca

I like the names we're being linked with, but I'm struggling to see where they fit in to Moyes preferred formations.

    I would guess:

    Areola
    Zouma - Aguerd - Cresswell
    Coufal - Soucek - Rice - Kostic
    Bowen - Fornals
    Antonio

Is what he’s trying to get onto the pitch. It can also transition to a 4-3-3 with Kostic playing LM/LW or being replaced by Benrahma.

I don’t believe, despite what some think, Moyes would want to lose Cresswell’s passing ability to play between lines of defence & midfield/attack, as well as his delivery.
