OCS, I would like a proper LB but there is a belief that DM likes players that can cover a few positions. Your option 2 looks a better formation IF all the players were to sign?
My concern with that would be the defensive ability of our left hand side. Going forward they'd be great, but I could see teams continuing to target that flank.
Maybe we're all thinking too much about a rigid formation though. Maybe Moyes wants more fluidity in his team and to hell with convention.

Moyesball is the future.
Moyes has always hinted he likes the idea of a back 3. He moved into a back 3 in just his second game of his return as manager, even though we beat Bournemouth 4-0 in his first game playing a back 4.
In his first spell, we moved to it straight after his first game in charge. Again, Masuaku transitioned between a LWB & a LW, whilst Cresswell moved from LCB to LB, during the games.
The last two years have seen us settle on a back four, but this hasn’t stopped him randomly bringing out the back 3 at various points. Many games where we see Masuaku back in the line-up & think ‘why’s he done that’?
Masuaku has never fully convinced Moyes, so I can see why he has targeted Raum, Henry, Kostic. He wants an upgrade on him as an option that might make the back 3 more sustainable.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Diallo. Though primarily a CB, he's played 62 times at left back, so clearly knows that role. Play him as LCB with Kostic beside him and he can cover the left side when Kostic is attacking. Rice tends to play on the left of CM too so between him and Diallo we don't actually need a conventional LB.
Not sure what happens when Aguerd is back, but that's Moyes' problem.
Honestly? I don’t really mind who we sign or don’t, what formation we play or what their shirt numbers are, I’m just looking forward to seeing the boys back out on the pitch and giving us another rollercoaster season.
Abdou Diallo is someone that's been mentioned on KUMB. Currently plays for PSG, can play either CB or LB. Suspect he's a little way down the pecking order there, has only played 50 games in 3 seasons (only 12 last season).
Loan with an option could be a good bit of business; we let Diop go while we can get a decent price for him, have cover at CB while Aguerd is out and Ogbonna has yet to prove fitness or form, and potentially a better LB than Cresswell. He has even occasionally played as a defensive midfielder as well. Get him in now, if it works he could be a natural successor to Ogbonna next season.
It doesn’t matter one iota whether we can see certain players fitting into what we perceive to be Moyes “preferred” formation. He obviously does and that’s all that matters.
I do mind who we sign or don’t find replacements for. It will be a rollercoaster of a season if we can’t or won’t strengthen the squad in a couple of areas which we still haven’t done fully. 👍
Everton are set to receive a sell-on fee for Ademola Lookman with Atalanta having agreed to sign the Nigeria winger, 24, from RB Leipzig for 15m euros (£12.5m)
In todays market, at his age with still unfulfilled potential, I actually think we should've been all over that
IMO Lookman is a strange one, he’s been passed on quite a few times in his career so far, perhaps he just isn’t “ the full package “ and possibly these managers know that 🤔
Not sure if it's been mentioned on here yet, but apparently Mason Holgate is one of the CBs we're looking at to replace Diop.
Several outlets are running with the news that we're interested. Can't say I'm overwhelmed with the link, but a home-grown 25 year old with good PL experience wouldn't be a bad option to cover Aguerd and, potentially, replace Dawson next season as 3rd choice CB.
That said, I think I'd rather we bought in Diallo.

Yea I'd pass, he's very inconsistent
He struggled after his move to Everton, but had a good half season on loan at RB Leipzig....but then when he move their permanently he couldn't replicate that loan form
Seems like he had an average loan at Fulham, then did ok at Leicester last year
I think Holgate is decent, tbh. He’s definitely not the CB I’d be replacing if I was Lampard. (It would he Michael Keane, because he is a diabolical defender)
for some reason my YouTube feed is suggesting Arsenal channels, no idea why, they seem to think they will get Bowen for £40m, make us seem positively sensible
I'd say that Chelsea would want another left sided wing back to cover Chillwell. Emerson (is nothing without Lake and Palmer) is not near the first team and it seems Alonso wants to go. I believe Kenedy was used there and Saul but Kostic would seem like a player they'd want and he'll be cool with them being in the CL. I would've loved it if we had got him but I should be grateful for a striker for the first time in ages

Fab; Zouma Dawson Aguerd; Coufal Rice Soucek Cresswell; Bowen Scamacca Antonio.
Imagine seeing Dawson, Zouma, Aguerd, Rice Soucek and Scamacca get in the box while Antonio stands on the keeper. Good luck my stopping that.

Hes a depth option at best
Do Chelsea actually need a left midfielder though?
