Herb - I know, should have known better. I just haven’t known us this short of options. We seem happy with it. I assume there really is no cash.
When you think it was only two years ago we had Arnautovic, Antonio, Hernandez, Perez & Carroll as forward options. We also had Rice, Noble, Obiang, Wilshere, Snodgrass & Sanchez as CM options.
It’s a very very fine line at the moment. Even loaning a specialist striker would have changed it from being a hugely underwhelming window to a better one than we could have hoped for with our owners.
We don’t know the exact cash terms though Jay. It may well be making the deal perm now might not have sent that much more cash out of the door now compared to completing the obligatory purchase in June.

Asset stripping or efficiency? Really not sure.
Asset stripping? Carroll, Wilshere, Snodgrass and Sanchez were frees. Obiang, Hernandez and Perez c.18m.
Carroll and Wilshere were regarded as sick notes. Obiang was regarded as not good as Noble by some. Hernandez and Perez were considered lazy and useless by many.
Arnie is the real big loss out of that list with Obiang not too far behind.
I, for one, never get overly excited by transfers until someone signs and then I get on with it. You only have to look at the Dawson signing that was roundly condemned by many. How silly do they now look? We obviously need strengthening, who doesn't, but if we can't get the right players or can't afford the ones we want we have to move on.
Josh King is a player on many lips at the moment but it appears he is going to Fulham. With all due respect to Fulham is he really the type of player who will improve us, other than making up the numbers. I would rather we wait until the summer and by a striker who is better than Antonio. That would really strengthen the squad.

He'd improve us in the short term, that's for sure. And signing him now doesn't mean Moyes can't target a better striker in the summer. Then next season we can have Antonio, King plus A N Other, and let Odubeko get a full season on loan. Bearing in mind both King and Antonio can also play out wide, we get much more cover in those positions too.
And if my maths is correct we have 5 players out of contract in the summer, a fair number who we need to move on, some who probably want to leave (e.g. Diop) and we'll get offers for others (Rice, Soucek), particularly if we end up mid-table. So if we do nothing now there is a huge rebuilding job to do in the summer. But again, forward planning has never been a strong point with our owners.
This is the problem we have the second oldest squad in the league and with a number of contracts coming to an end whilst needing work to do on the current squad.
I’d sooner we sign a striker if like people on here says moyes they trust to wait until the summer to sign someone why did he let haller leave if really gets my goat to replace him I’m not even going into the fact why he didn’t fit in, but to let go and have to rely on what we have borders on lunacy, you can see after a great start to going down to 11th or 12th and who’s to blame for that
Not going to mention the “H” word but his departure MUST have been on the understanding a new striker would join us this window, I don’t think Jesse is it by the way. Just going off to build up the reserves in my spleen ready to vent after 11 tonight. ☹️

Don't see the logic that Benrahma "doesn't count".....did we get him for a free then?
We spent about net £30mil the summer of the 19/20 summer window
Then obviously we struggled, and had to bring in Bowen/Randolph for a combined £25mil approx. We couldn't afford the £15mil for Soucek so we will write that off in the summer which we did
So we spent net £55mil over the 19/20 season excluding Soucek
Then we get Soucek in the 20/21 books when we got our end our prize money from the prem finish and our sponsorship money
So we made a small profit this summer much to many peoples chagrin, but you can tell from the fact we got Benrahma on loan that cash was tight, partly because of the £55mil net spend 19/20 but mostly down to COVID
Now we sold Haller for £20mil, but we still had £20mil outstanding for buying Benrahma that was coming in the 21/22 books
I'm sure the club looked into buying a new players with that money, but if its true that Moyes wasn't keen on the players who were available...it made sense to pay off Benrahma while we have the cash available and balance the books
Yes we are light but the way we've gone about this window we can enter the 21/22 window in a much stronger position at a time when revenues are still volatile
I think the fact King is off to relegation favourites Fulham show that he's unlikely going to be the player who fires us into Europe
I also wouldn't call any of the sales we've made across the last few seasons asset stripping as other than Diangana...I can't think of a single player that has left where the fanbase have actively kicked up a fuss that they're gone

Do we just not like strikers any more? 😄
The only two strikers Moyes has signed whilst being manager of West Ham have been Afolayan and Hugill
😂😂
Wonder who he makes his debut against...
I mean securing a suitable replacement prior to letting a player leave - what an utterly stupid way to go about things..
