  • Luke...fair play..

I fortunately don't do social media ( twitter etc etc )...So I don't witness that.

I get what you are tring to say, it's not always straight forward as it might seem.

I hope that you are right that Moyes did sanction this, seem to remember Curbishley walking as players were sold against his wishes ( different owners of course ).

Time will tell, let's see who we get in..

Certainly underperforming players ( Anderson/Lanzini ) have the skills, they just have to now perform as they can and wev'e seen before.

Re Noble- this cocncerns me, I wonder how the board/ manager will view his and other players comments, but what he said does represent how the majority feels, even if he should have kept that to himself, but as captain, if it was also aimed at the manager, that certainly is worrying and does not bode well.

Our club seems to have the knack of shooting themselves in the foot as such, and that's before the season has began.

Let's see what they do in the transfer market, sad that this unusual season ahead re deadline day, might backfire, if we get off to a poor start, which is very possible, can easily see Rice going...

Oh well, football ain't the most important thing in the world, just a pity when the club you support seems like it's in a bit of disarray IMO.
  • Lukerz,

If Grady was demanding to play every week, you can bet Noble wouldn’t have made the comment he did. He just wanted to be at West Ham to get his chances - it’s clear he is genuinely a decent guy who was not making demands off anyone

As for the defence, we have ogbonna (arguably our best), Diop ( who CAN be developed) and signs of a solid player in Johnson. Plus Fab. So only really a major concern at l/b

So we sign Tarlowski? At whose expense? Neither he or diop are going To want to be back up

Instead of more personnel, how about the manager with his coaches, actually coach the existing players better? Because the existing lot, barring Cresswell are more than capable of giving better?
  • This meltdown really isn't just about selling Grady. It's just what seems to have pushed people over the edge. There are currently current players, ex players, celebrities and even fans of other teams chipping in at the owners now. Something is definitely afoot.

Baracks - I would say Tarkowski becomes our first choice CB with Ogbonna, by quite some distance. You then sign a new LB & all of a sudden your back four looks very strong, with Rice & Soucek sitting in front.
  • Whatever way you look at this, things are not right. It seems Diang did not want to go, our Captain, other players and many fans did not want him to go either. So he gets sold to a team in the Prem who know first hand how good he is at a price lower than it should have been. WBA must be delighted as let's be honest, they are going to be a team we need to be above at the end of the season. We have just strengthened them, and weakened our team by selling Diang. I also do not believe that we will buy anyone with the money.

This decision was bonkers. I despair with our owners.
  • So we are moving towards a situation where we have 4 recognised centre backs at the club, yet just one recognised striker (who himself is yet to convince). Doesn’t seem terribly balanced to me!

The problem is we had club photos of Diangana for the last 2 weeks being pumped out.

Fans even understood to a small degree that we didn't have any money this window.

But still we sold the one asset that people were excited to see, one of our own who just got promoted from the Championship, its got a bit of the Stanislas about it. We talked about Championship players like Benrahama / Eze / Watkins all who will be sold for higher than what we just sold Diangana for.

We wanted to fill our ranks and to dip into the Championship to take out some of that talent after our January purchase of Bowen. And guess what ? we just sunk our one asset like a torpedo, selling him on the cheap and then putting in one of the weakest bids for a centre back destined to be heading for a top 6 club eventually imo. 1 WEEK BEFORE THE SEASON BEGINS TO BOOT !!!

The club has no structure / no purpose. I want the owners gone but its not happening until 2023 we are being run like Mike Ashley did for Newcastle now its an embarrassment.
  • We have sold Diangana for more than Palace paid for Eze!
  • I bieve Tarkowski has a £50 million release clause. So yeah, I guess a £20 million bid should cover it.
  • I think people are rightly fed up the club is coming off the back of a really poor season and the transfer window seems to be a mess again. We announced to all and sundry we need to sell putting the club in a weak position and end up selling the one player fans were eager to see instead we will get to see a disinterested Anderson ambling up and down the wing . I would rather have signed no one and gone into the season with the current squad I think most fans would have accepted we spent on Bowen and Soucek and Covid has put a hole in the finances. The Haller none payments the usual scattergun approach to making unrealistic bids for tarkowski etc now selling Diangana and upsetting the players as well as the fans I am not looking forward to the season . We will end up bottom half after the start we have and end up panic buying in jan at over the odds again the club has not plan I feel sorry for Moyes as he will probably end up as the scape goat again .
  • One thing I’ll say is I don’t believe fans were or would have been ok with signing nobody. We can say that now but it’s hindsight and had we not sold Grady there would still be anger, just a different anger
  • The club is in a really terrible negotiating position now though. Selling clubs know that the owners absolutely must sign someone that improves the team. That means selling clubs can eke more and more money out of us in negotiations, knowing we need to sign someone
  • A worry is that Noble is mr loyal and for him to say what he has imo means he is seriously angry at this decision and it looks like others in the squad feel the same. How this is going to impact on the season start remains to be seen but I’m concerned especially if Moyes was involved in the decision to sell. If he wasn’t then he has been undermined which is also a terrible state of affairs.

Also I wonder whether the sale would have been sanctioned at that price if fans would have been in the stadium at the start. I suspect not.
  • Couple of rumours on Twitter accounts suggest that the Tarkowski bid is yet to be rejected & stands at £27m.
  • I’m happy with Noble, personally. The club like to remind us that he’s Mr West Ham and that he’s a fan on the pitch whenever they need someone to placate fans. I feel, that yesterday he represented the mood of fans very well, and the club can’t have it both ways.
  • Proper defensive coaching will make us better as a defensive unit more so than individual personnel.

As talented as Tarlowski may be, Burnley’s defensive solidity is mainly down to Dyche in my opinion
  • I think what would help a great deal is if someone took responsibility for the decision as this would make a difference. If Moyes somehow said I want to let Grady go, then its not so easy to blame the club as they would have been listening to and supporting their manager, if however as many of us suspect this was a Sullivan dictated bit of business then that causes an issue as he is meddling in squad decisions. In my own view the fact Noble etc came out so quickly I suspect this wasn't a Moyes decision. If it was we are in big trouble as the season has not even begun and the manager and Captain are in open conflict.
  • We’ll find out after the Betway Cup today when
Moyes is no doubt asked about it...

If Tarkowski is a target then maybe Moyes is looking at playing 3 at the back again with wingbacks. Brings Masuaku back into the fold at LWB, Cresswell has played in back 3 under Moyes previously too.
Going backwards IMO but I just would not be surprised.

    Fabianski.
    Fredericks Diop Oggy Cress Masuaku
    Rice
    Bowen Soucek Fornals
    Haller/Antonio
  • SSN reporting Jamal Lewis (LB) may be on his way to Newcastle for £13.5 million? We have the funds but are trying to buy a CH instead which isn’t as important as a LB & a striker, unless Bowen is going to play along side Haller?
  • edited September 2020
Lewis can’t defend so wouldn’t bother going near him. Would give us 3 LB’s who can’t defend.

We need players who know how to keep the ball away from Fab, not ones who think of themselves as wingers.
  • Noble has seen a lot of rubbish at this club and I don’t remember him ever speaking out, so I don’t think he’s just exploding at a transfer. There is surely something more.
  • Lukerz said:

    Why is it disrespectful?

He’s going to be first choice winger at WBA, playing PL football & paid well. I don’t see it. I saw just as many articles claiming Diang wanted guarantees he would be first choice to consider staying.

If he stays here, he competes with Antonio, Fornals, Anderson, Lanzini (currently).

People are assuming he is going to be successful here, but imagine a scenario where the season starts, he struggles & we think why did we not accept £20m for a squad player?

Just as likely a scenario than him doing well.

You don’t keep young players because they are young, from the academy & want to stay. On that basis we’d have Stanislas, Sears, Hines & Dan Potts still in the 11. Clubs still have to make tough decisions that ultimately will upset those who have relationships from being a kid at the club.

Just to repeat, I am very disappointed Grady is not going to be here (I named my fantasy football side after him), but some of the reactions are knee-jerk.

    I agree,
who to say he could would 1st choice,?
If he turned into another rav, we would nothing for him
  • Wouldn't it be nice to log on to this site and see something positive?. Diang has gone and I would have rather he had been given a chance but there you go. Let's see what happens next

But even if Moyes did decide it, he's been given something of a Sophie's Choice because of a decade of financial mismanagement by the board. If Moyes chose to sell Diangana because he feels he needs to strengthen his defence, then I will understand but still be angry at the board for getting us into a position where he had to make the choice.

    -------------------

As an aside, why on earth are we not in for Ryan Fraser? He's on a free and is going to sign for Newcastle unless someone intervenes. He is better than what we have, he works hard, he is a left sided left midfielder (which we no longer have).

Signing Fraser, and spending the Grady money on a fullback would be decent business.

    --------------------

Lastly, why did West Brom not announce Diangana signing by saying "All Aboard the Grady Train", or "It's All Grady, Baby"?

    Something is definitely afoot.

Ham, that would be 12" =)
  • Lukerz. 👍 It wasn’t just Lewis but the position he plays in that I was referring to. Most, if not all, of us want some new players and spending everything we have on a CH won’t get us a full back or 2 plus maybe a CDM & striker unless we already have them in the club with our youngsters as we do like to use them don’t we!!!

Come along, get instep and toe the line please =)
  • We will end up with another CB & LB by the end of the window, as well as a striker on loan.
  • Maybe. But they have to be good.

You could argue that we strengthened CM when we signed Wilshere and Sanchez, but that isn’t strictly true
