If a player moves for financial gain and they're not bothered about playing ( see half the players in city's squad or Bale at Madrid ) then I have no sympathy. But Ngakia obviously thinks he has a chance of playing so I say good luck to him

Good luck to him. Nothing wrong with the move.

I find the choice of club odd, given they have no manager. Who is to say the new manager will want him as first choice? Or even second choice?

But moving to a different club to try & become a first 11 player; no problem with that. I think he could have become that here but there you go. He left when he was our first choice RB & had been for half a dozen games.
  • I think he'll live to regret it and especially for moving to Watford of all places considering the points that Lukerz has made.
He had every chance to stake a realistic first choice claim with us what with Fredericks' and, to a lesser extent, Johnson's injury record.
  • I can understand 100% if he was not in our side. But he was our first choice RB. That’s what I find a bit odd & just wonder if it’s more a personal decision or they offered a better package to him.

Maybe Ngakia thought that the £5k pw we were offering him was a indication of how little he was valued by the club and decided to find a club that would appreciate him a bit more.

    Good luck to the kid.

From Moyes interview with the Standard

"We’re trying to bring in a younger group but we will also need a couple of experienced players. Central defenders are usually better when they’re more experienced.”

  • But that wasn't Hugills choice was it?

If he chose not to take a pay cut, it was. Sure, he has the right to stay on that wage despite never contributing anything but it's as much of a choice as Ngakia leaving because he didn't feel he had a long-term future here.
  • The Athletic claim that we are interested in Jack Butland now that Stoke have dropped their £20m asking price.

The Brighton & Hove Independent reckon we might make a £10m bid for Shane Duffy, out of favour at Brighton under Graham Potter although Chelsea are after Lewis Dunk and Leeds want Ben White so he could be back in favour if either of those move.

    Rob went to Chelsea
As for but land feels yonks ago
  • Butland is only 27, he started very young.
  • I started surporting West ham very young ,and look at me now
  • Steve, tell us about it.......I Went grey aged 9

Jorginho's agent has left the door open for the midfielder to join Juventus this summer in a move that could help fund a Chelsea bid for Declan Rice.
  • When you see that Liverpool have had a £10m bid for Jamal Lewis rejected, with Norwich wanting nearly £20m, you can see the sort of market we are in these days. Then you look at the likes of Watkins, Eze, Benrahma. These are all Championship players that are all valued at £20m. That used to get you David Silva or Aguero 10 years ago. Can’t see us signing anybody without shifting a reasonable amount of players first.
  • It’s all a bit crazy wonder if we will leave it late and panic buy

  • Jamal Lewis is a HG & has a season playing in the Premier League so attracts a higher price. We are rumoured to be linked with Rico Henry for £7 million but can buy Montiel an Argentine international from River for slightly more but it is complicated by them only having 80% ownership. I am going to watch this window, long as it will be, with interest especially to see how much some of the other teams spend especially as Aston Villa had a net spend of over £140 million plus last time round but that is probably down to their owners!
  • Sky now reporting that Ajeti is close to a move to Celtic, after a breakthrough following talks with Neil Lennon. There will be the option to sign him for £5m at the end of the loan.

Bit odd incorporating a fee into it as an option. He does badly, the comes back here. He does well, we get underpaid. Bit of a lose-lose.
  • Maybe its one of them "Obligation to buy" deals the Italians like

Is that any different to us agreeing a fee with Sparta Prague when we had the Soucek loan deal? It means everyone is clear on the deal before it starts, so for me it's a win
  • Ngakia for Watford: Domingos Quina also left WHU for Watford but his career seems to have stalled. Sometimes, it pays to be patient and let the coaches who know you help with your development. Will Ngakia join him? I wish both of them well,
  • I heard at one time that Ngakia was looking at moving to Germany. Maybe he was just badly represented at the time and was not as sought after as he was told. And now he doesn’t have many choices.
  • BBC gossip reporting Chelsea trying to raise 65m to buy Rice. In my view although I accept everyone is for sale they would need bid 90m to even get a conversation and then decide on some add ons. We have a genuine game changer to build around and a future captain and it would show a distinct lack of ambition to sell him as he is under contract and does not look the type to down tools, so unless someone is offering money that cant be refused we should not even think of it. Even at 90-100m I wouldn't sell but I could understand why we may, below that I would be bitterly disappointed.
  • Didn't they promise a top 6 finish & European football when we left UP? Selling Rice would be a betrayal of that promise. I'd compare it with the sale of Rio. Doesn't Moyes want to build the team around Dekkers? If they're serious about their ambitions, we can't be a selling club anymore.
  • That promised vanished a long time ago.
  • I would want to keep Rice but IF the money was used to make the squad much stronger overall...........................
  • Selling the type of player we need to be competitive and replacing with several lesser players does not seem a way of building a club
  • Keeping Rice against his will would be disruptive.
  • £80m & not a penny less.

    Then you reinvest.

It worked alright for Spurs, who sold Bale (look at him now) & they went from 4th/5th to 2nd & a CL final.
  • IH, but is there any evidence that Rice wants to leave?
