West Ham face losing out on attacking targets as David Moyes has very limited funds & has already decided defensive areas are of greater priority.

I mean, losing out on a Championship player to Crystal Palace is something we could've achieved at Upton Park.

I really don't want to be this cynical before the new season has even started, but it does frustrate me that we're pleading poverty whilst being the 18th richest club in the world.
I mean I know its frustrating, but Spurs and Arsenal are the 8th and 11th richest clubs in the world (and much bigger than us) and it appears as though they also need to sell to buy (or at the least have a limited budget)
  • I find it hard to believe any of it, it is all rumour or lazy journalism. We started well getting Soucek signed, I will wait and see what actually happens.
  • It is always amazing how much notice people take of the press. do we really think the clubs are discussing details with journalists? what is annoying is that people slam our owners eg in the Martin Braithwaite case without knowing if the reports have got a grain of truth in them. At least there is only a few weeks of the silly season to go!!!

Being reported by Sam Inkersole that the club will not entertain any permanent offers for Grady Diangana this summer.

We must not forget we already have splashed some cash with Soucek, think we'd all agree a very decent bit of business...

IMO the world we are living in....so much stress/uncertainty/ financial ruin for many...I have no concerns what our owners can spend after Soucek...That's the life we are now living in, nothing will be normal for....perhaps some of our life times....

Our owners are not in the same league 'financially " as some owners of "top" teams...I am not their biggest fans, but in all reality, they can only do what they can....

Many of the posters on here were thrilled when Pelle took over and he got a sidekick to find players....Sadly that went very pear shaped.....Hindsight is a great thing...

  • We should look at Rico Henry for left back if Brentford don't go up.
  • Brentford are going to get raided.

I think Watkins would suit us. Henry as well.

Parker's really done a good job in that final, even spotting the goalkeeper's free kick weakness.

Brentford have been selling their best players every year though and still improving as a team, so we should really raid their scouts.
  • If that was the first time you’d seen them though you’d wonder what the fuss was about. Generally they were poor and looked average championship players.
Can see Fulham struggling again next year but Brentford would be another Norwich.
  • This from the BBC ........
You are at the mercy at the brilliant performance from another team and that is what we've seen from Fulham tonight, they have now won two Championship play-off finals in the last three seasons.

Must have been watching a different game to me. At least for the first 90 minutes. I had to go to a meeting and missed extra time.

Fulham definitely weren’t brilliant but I think they basically flawlessly executed a plan that made Brentford look useless. Showed real development from Parker who I’ve seen Fulham fans describe as naive. Frank is supposed to be Mr tactics board but Parker outdid him and I bet his half time talk was much better.

Michael Hector did a good job against Watkins though. East Ham boy (was the year below me in school)

I only saw the extra time but I was told I saw the best bit.

    Also this...

We don’t need many players. Let’s be honest if the season started tomorrow, we would be going into it on the back of 12 points from our last 7 games & a reasonable first 11 in good form. Yes we could all do with a better LB & ideally a Number 10 so that we don’t rely on Noble’s legs every week, but the first 11 (plus Diangana now coming back) is not bad & then when you look at the bench & see Haller, Lanzini, Anderson, Yarmolenko...we’re hardly short of players. Those four alone cost us approx £120m.

I am sure the club want to trade some of those players in for fresh blood but we are not desperate need of players. I think if we sort the full-backs & sign a CB, we would be alright with what we have, but the club will be happy to have a couple of offers for some of those bench players & bring in replacements.

I would also hope that Moyes would be able to get more out of some of these players with his man management skills & coaching ability. Otherwise there is no point in having a manager & coaching setup.
  • Just seen Ake has gone to Man City for £40m. Was he not part of a defence that got relegated last week. What must our lot be worth?
  • Tbh, if someone went after Issa Diop I wouldn't be happy with anything less than £40mil...and our defence was (almost) as bad as Bournemouth

Plus you look at him and you can see why Pep would want him. Quick, good on the ball and takes up good positions...unfortunately for him he was grossly overexposed as the midfield did little to protect their back 4

Think he will actually be a good signing for them, although still think the fact he's HG has inflated the fee

    The Guardian says...

Palace, Villa, West Ham, Sheffield United and Leeds are all after Ollie Watkins. Sky Sports says Brentford have valued Watkins and Benrahma at £25m each minimum

Palace have offered Ryan Fraser a £50k pw contract

QPR want at least £16m for Eze, linked with West Ham, Palace, West Brom, Villa and Leeds
  • Champo, what does HG mean?
  • Home Grown
  • Diamantis, that's what I just realised but then I had to look up the rules for qualifying as such since he's Dutch. Cheers.
  • According to Alan Nixon of the Sun (on Twitter) the problem with offering Hugill as part-ex for Eze is that QPR cannot afford his wages (£35k pw). This is possible as Hugill refused a £4m move to Wigan last summer because they only wanted to pay him £18k pw
  • That should not be difficult to overcome. Calculate the difference between what QPR would pay and what we are until the end of his contract and that amount just becomes part of the negotiation on the price.
  • Wouldn't that become quite expensive? If the gap between what Wigan were willing to pay and what we paid is a guide, it'd be millions over a contract.
  • If QPR would pay say, 22k per week, I don't know how long is on his contract but say 2 years that is about 1.3 million. so we offer 13 million rather than 12 million plus Hugill
  • I would want more than £4m for Hugill, especially if he goes to QPR.
  • Why would Ngakia want to join a Championship side when he had a bright prospect with a PL side?
  • NGAKIA CLOSE TO WATFORD MOVE

Former West Ham right-back Jeremy Ngakia is on the verge of joining Watford on a free transfer.

The 19-year-old left West Ham at the end of June following the expiration of his contract, having failed to agree terms on a new deal.

Ngakia was not given assurances by West Ham that he would be a first-team regular, with Ryan Fredericks and Ben Johnson already at the club.
  • Maybe he didn't think he had as bright a future as some of us thought? Before Johnson's injury he was behind him in the pecking order and there doesn't seem to be a huge deal between them, he was behind Fredericks, and the noises from the club appear to suggest we need a right back to replace Zabaleta. Whilst he got some game time for us, there's also a real risk he would be third or fourth choice next season.
  • Ngakia got a lot more grief for wanting to play than Hugill has for being paid to do nothing (for us).
