  • Pretty sure West Ham also want him, so they can all jog on.
  • I don't want us to have to sell Declan but how do people see us funding the changes most feel we need to make in the team without selling him or do we just use who we already have? Brighton look to be selling Duffy for a rumoured £10 million and have his replacement already in at a cost £900,000, a player we were linked with the other window aged 28 & can play Centre Half or Right Back two areas we need to strengthen.

People live in a dream world if they feel we can keep Declan until his retirement. Any club outside the top 6 only build by selling valuable assets & reinvesting in a better squad.

No such thing as ‘we need to stop being a selling club’. United sold Ronaldo, Chelsea sold Hazard, Spurs sold Bale, Liverpool sold Suarez...
  • Problem is what are we building towards ?

We haven't improved since we left UP, we have gone the reverse. Its bad decision after bad decision after bad decision.

We could buy of load of Roberto’s
  • We've had three managers in the four years since we left Upton Park, its hardly surprising that we've not improved
  • but its part of the problem, managers who come in have a mediocre first season then end up in a relegation battle following season.

    Sort of, but not...Bilic had a brilliant ( IMO ) 1st season...and a normal WHUFC 2nd!!

A Twitter account called @360Sources claims Chelsea have made a £48m bid for Declan Rice. 🤔

Not sure about accuracy of account. Not being reported anywhere else.

We've had three managers in the four years since we left Upton Park, its hardly surprising that we've not improved

And I don’t trust the people who keep getting managers wrong to spend the Rice money correctly.

The Athletic reported a while ago that when Moyes came in the first time he asked for a review of how the club was run and that improvements were made but then thrown away under Pellegrini, who I increasingly feel ran quite a corrupt regime even if I don’t think he did a bad job football-wise. We need to go back to that and have structures that manage the club even when managers change (and aren’t Sullivan and Co.)

That might be important than most signings we can make this summer.
  • In my view if Rice has four years left on his contract we can conceivably keep him for two should he not be willing to sign a new contract at that point we would still get a very decent sum.

To fund signings at present I feel we could sell Lanzini or Andrson, Ajeti, Balbuana, Hugil and if the price was right although I would prefer not to Diop. Diop would be a player who I could understand the argument to sell to rebuild, he is good but not irreplaceable to us, we however cannot attract players of Rice's calibre and so he is irreplaceable in the transfer market. Haller could go for the right money but I don't feel we will get anything like we paid so i would give Moyes a chance to do his magic and turn him into an Arnie for us. He will definitely get a chance as we know Antonio is fragile. I would also like to see Bowan in front of goal when the need arises rather than always out wide, I think he could be a good finisher. We have also saved some good wages with Zabaletta leaving and we also have Diangana coming back which will be like a new signing.

In my view with Soucek, Diangana and Bowan being like new signings for the season if we keep Rice and do a little business I think we could line up with a good squad.

  • Just been reading that the Arsenal keeper - Martinez - is not convinced he will get first team football once Leno returns. Only 27.

May be worth keeping an eye on him as a successor to Fab. Thought he looked pretty decent when I saw him.

    .

    Apart from here =)

If someone with a twitter account claimed that they'd seen Martians land on their roof............
  • To fund signings at present I feel we could sell Lanzini or Anderson, Balbuena, Hugil

Nice theory except as yet we've had no bids for Lanzini, Anderson, Balbuena or Hugill and we're still in negations about Ajeti but there is major interest over Rice.

We can't sell players if clubs aren't interested in buying
  • If we do sell Rice we have to take a leaf out of Leicester's book and only sell for big fees .He will go at some point I have no problem if he wants to better himself I think he will gives us another season then move . The signings of Bowen and Soucek have improved the midfield alot I think we will only sign 3/4 players tops maybe including the old favourite loan to buy option . We need a CF and defensive cover as priority.
  • If Rice does go, we may get good money.....but who could we replace him with? To buy someone to play alongside Soucek similar to Rice will probably use up half of what we would sell him for. I can't even think who we would target.
  • Don't worry Exeter Sully Jr has just got the latest Football Manager he is drawing up a shortlist :-)

If we assume that Lanzini, Yarmo & Anderson are all on £50k per week (minimum), given they have all underperformed for more than a year, who is going to want to sign them & match their wages? The only option I can see is somebody may loan Anderson for a year & then buy if he does well.

Rice on the other hand is going to attract interest. As ASLEF says, we need to raise funds to spend, nobody wants the players we don’t want, so it may force us to sell Rice. Same goes for Diangana. Another young player we would like to keep, but the only one attracting interest.

That will be down to Moyes. It will either be ‘I would rather keep Rice & sign nobody & go with what we have’ or ‘let’s cash in & rebuild the squad’.

It’s going to be an interesting decision.
  • Mirror reporting that Sheff Utd have beaten us to the signing of Anthonee Robinson for a mere £2m.

If true, and we've missed out on a young player courted by AC Milan, who was available for a pittance and in a position that we need strengthening, then it's very poor from the board, IMO.
  • Maybe we didn't want him.

Must admit, I have not been the boards biggest fan, but I find it hilarious how there is a lot of bashing going on because we are ‘supposedly’ going to miss out on a bunch of Championship players.

The latest is Robinson, with comments like ‘the Dave’s can’t even muster up £2m’. Maybe Moyes is not that desperate for him? How many of these fans have watched that guy play week in, week out to know how good he is? Benrahma & Watkins the other two. Both failed miserably in the Championship final, & also the two pressure games that would have seen Brentford go up automatically. How would they compete in the pressure of the PL?

Not sure that’s who we want.
  • Sky reporting four PL clubs are in for John Lundstrum, who has refused to sign a new contract so far (deal expires next summer). Sheffield United could be tempted to cash in now.

Wonder if we are one of them? He was at Everton as a youngster when Moyes was there, can play CB/CM, is 26, had a great debut PL season last year, 5 goals from midfield.

Would people take him as a CM option with Soucek, Rice (hopefully) & Noble?
  • I would imagine Spurs would be one of those interested seeing as they don't have much of a midfield.
    I'd have him though.
  • Lukerz,

£2m should be nothing to a PL team. Even if Robinson isn't Moyes' first choice, he's still available at a knock-down price and in a position that we need improving in. If AC Milan were interested then it's a good sign that he's a decent player, and frankly if he's good enough for Sheffield Utd then he's good enough for us.

And worst case, he'll end up in the U23s for a season. We spent more on Toni Martinez who barely even made the first-team bench.

I guess my point is that to me we can't lose on the deal. £2m should be pocket change for the 18th richest club in the world, so even if he doesn't turn out to be the player people think he is, then we've hardly lost anything. It would be a very low-risk move, IMO.

I like Lundstram. I think he's looked very solid, decent on the ball, pops up with goals. A midfield of Lundstram, Soucek and Rice would take no prisoners. Not many teams would fancy a scrap with them in midfield.

Yes, but would he come to us knowing Rice and Soucek are nailed on starters? I like that he can play a couple of positions.

The question is why would he want to come to us over Sheff Utd. You can’t force someone to come to us.

If I was John Lundstram I'd be looking at it as a midfield that I could walk into, given I've just had a blinding premier league season whilst West Ham barely stayed up. I think most footballers back themselves to get into the team - that's why so many players have wasted 18 months of their life sitting on the bench at Stamford Bridge.
