  • Clyne went out on loan to Bournemouth last January although he had actually played for Liverpool in the weeks before he moved.
  • We had Edimilson Fernandes, now we're talking about Gedson Fernandes. Anyone else see the start of a pattern?
  • I don’t hold much hope in signing Fernandes. Benfica and the other Portuguese clubs are very good at selling players and they will make negotiations hard.
  • I predict this window we will sell Diop and buy Joe Allen and maybe Randy with a couple of last minute loans.

Listening to Ex's podcast at the moment. He's said Moyes is planning to go three at the back again against Sheff Utd, so if this is a long-term plan I'd be surprised if Diop was sold under his tenure.

Balbuena, Ogbonna, Reid and, at a big push, Cresswell would be our only CB options in that instance, unless the club have a replacement lined up.
  • Rice can at there. Paving the way for Sanchez to nail down his position.
  • I did think about Rice, but no way can we afford to lose him from midfield.

If we bring in a couple of good CMs then potentially Rice could drop back, but I think that's an enormous 'if'.
  • I think playing a deep lying DM can be similar to playing an aggressive central CB in a 3. I like Rice more as a midfielder, but I think him playing in that central role wouldn’t take too much from his game.
  • In Moyes we trust (to know a little more about team selection than us). ;)
  • We won’t be getting any player in of a greater calibre than Joe Allen in this window in any position IMO. Whether we do so in the summer remains to be seen (but I’m sure more likely). I would have liked us to steal a march somewhere by below by being creative (eg trying to buy Jarod Bowen and loaning him straight back to hull), however our owners have no track record of doing something like this. I also think we will end up getting an out of contract freebie or two after 31 Jan because that is most certainly our owners’ style.
  • According to ex on Twitter the concern is that Randolph may need surgery, odd that there's doubt about this even though he's been out of action since November!

The only pluses I can see with Joe Allen are that:-

    A) he knows what to expect in the Premier League while Fernandes, Berge or Sanson would have to "acclimatise"

    B) better than Sanchez and without Wilshere's injury record.
  • Genuine question, would Allen start over Noble?

Think he plays a bit higher up the pitch but hes similar to Noble in that hes a bit of a jack of all trades and master of none

I agree hell be a solid aqusision but very underwhelming and surely he'll be replaced in the summer anyways
  • Clynes been injured for months and wont be fit by the end of Jan. So if we even think about him it'll be a loan for an unfit player. We already have those
  • IMO Joe Allen is comfortably better than Mark Noble in all areas apart from taking a penalty

If the best we are going to achieve is Joe Allen, I genuinely wouldn’t bother. Just do nothing and wait till the summer. Moyes should be able to get us to 45 point min with what he has got.

I disagree with this so hard.

Noble is massively underrated by our fans as I think we have taken him for granted. Allen’s a good alternative, a good rotation option, is better than a fit Sanchez and unfit Wilshere, but that’s all.
  • Its all about opinions mate and I am totally cool with your hard disagree. I just think Allens a better footballer. He has better vision, passing, tackling and engine as he can be in the opposition box, creating further back or defending all game. I also get that people knock Noble and the lack of pace and the sideways passing stereotypes come out. I'm not knocking him as such. I just think Allens an all round better player
  • I don’t believe Joe Allen is a Noble upgrade at all and why I think if this is all it will be, we may as well not bother.
  • Its not happened yet and probably won't. I had a Mrs Merton memory flashback all of a sudden, 'Lets have a heated debate'
  • Nathan Holland has joined Oxford Utd on loan until the end of the season while ex says we've been offered ex-Man U RB Rafael Da Silva - currently at Lyon.
  • Randolph reported to have failed medical ! a second one is being lined up

Don't think Allen is a bad player, just that no other PL team has come in for him since Stoke have been dwindling in the championship says a lot for me, but as already said above better than the mu......Carlos Sanchez anyday ;)

Randolph reported to have failed medical ! a second one is being lined up

A second medical? What would be the point in doing that? :hmm:
  • So they can have a third ……….best of 3
  • If you fail a medical that should be it....

Not that simple. £4m for a crocked Randy versus a fully fit Roberto is a tough one.
  • The word underwhelming is being used for Joe Allen, indeed I felt underwhelmed with the appointment of Moyes.

Perhaps we need more underwhelming signings that succeed rather than exciting ones that fail.

A second medical? What would be the point in doing that? :hmm:
Well, I assume it's not a replication of the 1st one, as indeed there'd be no point. But a more specialised investigation into a specific issue could be useful.
  • BREAKING NEWS

Chelsea have made an offer for Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes.

The offer is thought to be for an 18 month loan with an obligation to buy for £55m, provided he plays in at least 50 per cent of the games during the loan spell.

West Ham United’s latest offer is for an 18 month loan with an obligation to buy for £33m – the percentage of games to trigger the obligation is less than Chelsea’s.

The decision will rest with Benfica and the player.
  • Chelsea have bid for Fernandes for 18 months loan and option to buy. Higher purchase price but triggered by higher number of games.
    That’s us done then.
