One thing I know is we arent good at selling players, often letting go of stars, 1st teamers, back up for less than what there worth

Look at clubs our size
Leicester sold Maguire and invested the money well and are no worse off
Palace lost AWB and are no worse off, plus they refuse to sell Zaha for less than £80m

Yes Diop is a good player but he hasnt done enough to show that hes indespensible (I mean atm Balbuena and Ogbonna are ahead of him) and we could more than double our investment

I think sometimes, realistically the club will need to consider a selling a player to re-invest and move forwards. We did it before I think when we sold Dicks to Liverpool (obviously on a smaller scale in terms of monies). Even Baz’s other team did it with Coutinho. But I wouldn’t consider doing it unless we know exactly how we will re-invest

Selling players isnt the problem
It's how we invest it

Leicester have shown how to do it right

Everton have shown how to do it wrong

And Southampton just keep the money and dont bother investing it

For me, if we have the hypothetical situation of selling Diop for £50m, that money could go towards a CB replacement AND Berge/Gabigol

Or selling Anderson for £60m, we can get Berge, Bowen & Gabigol (using these just coz their names have popped up recently)

So we have him for 18 months and if he's rubbish we give him back having paid only a nominal loan fee (which is good), but if he's brilliant and becomes an integral part of our team we would have to pay somewhere close to his £102m release clause to get him permanently (which is less good).

Gedson Fernandes is one name we’re talking about. He’s a young player with potential, probably more for the future.

I'd not expect to see him playing for the 1st team this season.

From his comments I agree that's what it sounds like....but seems odd Benfica would choose us over Chelsea if we also don't intend to play him much
