My initial reaction was yes, but thinking about it, he will certainly be booed in our first game. Do we really need that negativity? Also, he’s 31, we shouldn’t be buying him back for more than we sold him for.
Personally, I was very upset with the way he left, but I don’t really care now he’s gone. If he came back I would be excited because it’s a player that would make us better. If he cost more then I wouldn’t be too pleased with that, but I think he’s less risk than Anderson at a lower price.
The question over Payet would be whether people would want to have someone who is a magician on the field or someone who is upstanding and honourable off it. Of course the answer would be to have both, but sometimes you can’t have everything.
Lets not forget he was also a bit of a luxuary who had the ability to change the game but also the ability to disappear for entire games and didnt particualrly like tracking back
Cant imagine hes gonna get more involved the older he gets
I’d have him back in a heartbeat, nobody truly knows the reasons why he left, squad, ambition, personal.......I’ve never been one to sing songs about Frank or label Defoe a Judas.......
He’s the best player we've had since Di Canio and helped give us the best season for about 30 years. I’d love to go back to that season again or something close to it
He said we played boring football in the period where we were having to grind out results.
No season can be expected to go smoothly and easily. What will he do next time when you need to leave your ego in the dressing room and dig in on the pitch?
Comments
Also, does anyone think that he will enhance the dressing room spirit or cause resentment?
I'd be hard pressed to believe he wouldnt go prima donna again,
That said, I'd happily have Ravel back and he'd cost a little bit less than the person we're talking about
If Manu wasnt injured for so long i wouldnt even consider it
But the fact is if he joins he probably becomes out best playee again, even better than Arnie
But the way he left, the price it would take, his age, his work ethic and fitness issues sway it to a no from me
Untill....
No professional should refuse to play and he contributed to a decent mng and man going bald...
So not for me.
Its not just that hes 31, but if you look at our best attacking players they are all in the same zone age wise
Arnie 29
Antonio 28
Carroll 29
Chicarito 30
Snodgrass 30
Gonna be a lot of work to refresh that, cant be done over one window so wpuld like to go for someone with a little more longetivity like Anderson (25)
That and hes a snake
That said if i were Holland, Sead or Samuelsen i'd be ready to stake a claim during preseason as there isnt a whole lot of depth on the wings
It's a no from me.
Magician or no, you have to be able to rely on your players playing. All the magic in the world is no use if he's on strike.
Cant imagine hes gonna get more involved the older he gets

Could do with a quote from the man himself though ;wink
Regardless of how good a player he is, he treated the club disgracefully when forcing through his move.
I'd sooner see us be a worse side, with better people playing for us, than let him waltz back in when it suits him.
That's a no, by the way.

Can't be relied on.
