With Mane, Firmino, Lallana, Sturridge, Salah around him I'd say he'd be ideal.

    He'll be 10x better immediately.
  • Fair enough yeold/Lukerz ;ok

If I were a Liverpool (god forbid), I'd be appalled at replacing Coutinho with Lanzini.

If Liverpool want him, and have just sold Coutinho for £100 million +, we should ask for the same price for Lanzini, if we're accepting he's a replacement.

That should end that interest fairly quickly.
  • I don't think any Liverpool fan would want that swap.

But if Barca get their men they need a replacement. I would say Lanzini is fairly close to be that replacement ! and probably not cost as much as they sell Coutinho for with some spare cash to boot for other players.

I would hope the Daves turn around and quickly say No to any Lanzini move but if pressured they would have to thrown down at least a 50m valuation.
  • I hope it doesn't explain the "injury" he had during preseason...
  • West Ham are working on a few deals, especially for a new midfielder and a couple of players could be leaving soon.

I guess Fegouli is one and other maybe Adrian I've read Newcastle want him.
  • If Liverpool get 100 mil I am sure there are better options than Lanzini , if they do want him out 45 mil + price tag on him . If I was a Liverpool fan I would be expecting a big name replacement
  • Really hope that this Lanzini being injured and out of the Bremen games is legit and not due to speculation regarding him to Liverpool. Whilst I agree that currently he is a bit behind Coutinho in ability, so are a lot of people. I think if Coutinho leaves they could well want Lanz, yes he's not quite as good yet (certainly doesn't score as many goals) but is prem adjusted, good to go, and is getting better year on year. It is a real worry IMO if Barce do snap up Coutinho. Who else plays at CAM, is used to the prem, scores and creates, and is at a 'smaller' team than Liverpool so they can poach? Of all the examples I can think of, I would rather Lanz.

Posted this a while back... I agree with most who say Lanz is not on Coutinho's level at the mo, but with the prem so close to starting, someone who has proven prem ability becomes all the more vital as opposed to a 'name' from a foreign league who may or may not cut it (hence why we wanted the likes of Arnautovic this summer - proven prem player). I am genuinely worried about this if Courtinho goes to Barce.

So I reiterate, who else plays at CAM, is proven in the prem, scores and creates, and is at a team 'smaller' than Liverpool so that they should (at least in their minds) be able to poach?
  • Also worth noting lallana is set to miss the first 2 months of the season

I agree Lanzini is no coutinho but he's a cheaper alternative who has the potential at least to improve to double figures for goals at the very least and in sure with Mane, Salah, Firminio in front of him he'll get more assists too
  • I don't think Liverpool would have any problem looking abroad for a player.

Klopp has not been afraid to dip into the European markets in the last 2 windows.

And I don't think the timing of a signing (early or late in the window) affects whether or not they want an existing Pl player.
  • We'll have to agree to disagree then MrsG. They have already brought in Robertson from Hull this summer, there are other LB's about as good in Europe, plus it's not as if he'll class as home grown (Scottish). Also their heavy chase of Van Dijk suggests to me that prem experience is proving important to them this summer. There are many other good CB's in Europe for the same / lower price yet they still have wanted the Dutchman at Southampton. I am very worried. I sincerely hope to be proved wrong, and/or they can keep Coutinho.

They also broke the club record on signing a winger from Roma, though.

But we'll agree to disagree, and see how it all pans out ;ok
  • There's little point in dwelling on it - if Liverpool come knocking (which personally I don't think will happen anyway) he will be off in a heartbeat. As a club we dust ourselves down and move on.
  • I can't help but dwell baracks - I'm one of life's worriers. If he leaves our season takes a massive knock for me. We would struggle to bring in someone as good in his position IMO (plus someone who has prem experience so good to go straight away without having to adjust this season..)
  • Strange how Lanzini is suddenly "not that good" when there's an outside chance someone maybe interested in him. Head and shoulders our best player.
  • Best MF, Herb?
  • New players excepted our best player by far imo Mrs G, though on reflection any 'Head and Shoulders' comments should be reserved for you know who.
  • Although .... in the role the play... Antonio (of our old players) as good as?
  • Not imo. Mainly down to technique where the ball gets away from Antonio on too many occasions. Lanzini does a lot of work and excels bringing the ball out of defence.

He plays deeper than Coutinho so wouldn't be a ready replacement anyway.
  • No IMO MrsG. Although I like Mr Antonio and think he's a great player for our team, there is a reason Slav wanted to convert him to be a RB. He is quick, powerful and strong, has a great engine, and dribbles well. His technique and 'football brain' however isn't that high for a forward player. (I'm not trying to say he isn't a good RW, he is, and IMO he's currently the best we have in that position).

I can see a bigger team than us wanting Lanzini, his current ability (baller ;footie , technique and skills of creativity) and potential to get better still are attractive. However I cannot imagine one of the 'top 6' wanting Antonio as a right wing forward - he simply hasn't the technical nous required for those teams IMO.
  • Haha, great minds Herb! Love that double post! 7:36 ;cool
  • I take your points. ;ok

I just think Lanzini could improve on the 'knowing when to pass' as far too often imo he holds on too long, runs into a dead end and loses the ball.

Nobody is saying he's not that good. He and Antonio are our best players, IMO.

Nothing in that makes it the case that he's an equal or nearly equal replacement for Coutinho, because in my opinion he isn't in that class.
  • Twitter.

Sofiane Feghouli will join Galatasaray for £4m and £60k a week ages. Medical today.
  • Apparently, Turkish clubs regularly play down the value of transfers they make.

I hope so Grey. If we are paying a reported £2.4-3m for a (admittedly seemingly highly regarded) 18 year old from the Swedish league, I would like to think we would get more than £4m for a player who; is at his prime (27), is a regular international (43 caps, 11 goals), was a top player and nailed on starter for Valencia for 5 years, was decent in the prem IMO once he adjusted and got past his initial injury, scores (around 1 in 6.5ish in Spain and UK) and creates as a winger, still has two years left on contract, etc, etc.

Although as I have already stated I'll be sad to see him go. Ideally I would keep him and think he could be a good player for us. Unfortunately it appears I will be disappointed :(
  • So I take it no one rates Warren Barton's ITK status? Or no one is excited about the possibility of Giroud coming to us? I must admit I assume it's rubbish, based on what the club have said, unless they have found a buyer for AC or Sakho (which seems unlikely). But if anyone has any info to suggest Barton has some insider intel, I would be rather excited...
