Yeah! I wasn't to enamoured with some of those either. ;wink
  • Pearce to be announced tonight. Official announcement soon.
  • Grey - The words quoted are used for the strap line for her website when you search it in Google, these ones are on her site further in, the words are not accredited to anyone so I assume all her own.

Lady Karren Brady CBE is one of the most sought-after motivational speakers in the world and has travelled the globe inspiring and motivating audiences. She has, for the past decade been considered as one of the best speakers in the world on a range of topics that leave audiences inspired and motivated.

I think they qualify as boastful as they are completely subjective, who would she be considered one of the best speakers in the world by? does she leave the audiences inspired and motivated? It's only an opinion but I think she comes across awfully within the newspaper column, the apprentice and her website.

The reason I don't feel Slav or Moyes will worry to much about her is I don't get the impression she has too much to do with the manager but rather the running of other things. I get the impression out of the three Sully has most to do with the manager, team and signings. I may be wrong as it was a time back but I do seem to recall her being sceptical of Grants appointment, but I think she is just an opinion rather than a decision maker. I think they know they must manage Sully and get him on side but not so much Brady, I could be wrong.

Why would you assume they are her words?

It's the. standard kind of puff you'd see on any promotional site.

It might all be nonsense, but no worse than most if it is.

I honestly don't get the animus towards her.
  • Me personally have no opinion of her and only thing that does my head is is the old diary in the sun was just glorified scandal with no names, I listen to what she says about the David’s but she really isn’t going to come out and slate them is she, the board should be seen and not heard as it’s the manager who takes the van when it goes pear shaped
  • I would presume they are her words or at the very least reviewed and agreed with her because it is her website, it is her window to the world, her opportunity to present herself to the world. It would I feel be a more reasonable question to ask why you would feel she has words representing her on her site that are not hers.

There is no real animosity towards her, it's not like I am posting each day with a diatribe against her ( I actually quite liked her in the beginning ), it was purely in response to a previous poster remarking about her earlier in the day, I haven't started a post or anything. She is someone who has placed herself into the public eye, and my comments were expressing an opinion on how she comes across to me within the platforms of her role in the apprentice, her newspaper column and her website. The way she comes across is not a way that I tend warm to, quite the opposite in fact.

I really appreciate the way you run the forum Grey and I have gone on record about that, I think it makes it what it is but I hope you wont take offence if I say that sometimes I think you just have to accept someone is expressing their view, and sometimes our views are instinctive. Not every post needs questioning. Your responses seem unnecessarily combative, your first question of why would you presume these are her words? seems unnecessary, as it would mean we were not assuming that websites are the owners own words or carefully reviewed which again would seem reasonable and just feels a little like you wanted to argue for the sake of it. I do remember the UKIP leader who claimed he had no input to his website but I don't think anyone believed him. I can understand if you were asking why I held the view I do, or even stating an alternative view but I feel you have confronted and challenged the opinion in an unnecessarily combative way, and I think as I haven't left much line of attack of my view open you have presented my comments as containing animosity as a finish, which I think if you re-read they are quite hard to find that in. I like that posts are questioned on here as otherwise these forums become silly, and yourself, and a few others no doubt, ensure it stays a first class forum, but in my view sometimes you could just let a reply be a reply. ;ok
  • I don’t like her politics and it clouds my judgement.

I didn't intend the animus comment towards you, but in general.

I didn't intend to come across as 'combative'.

Anyone on here has the right to post their opinion within site rules and, equally, others are free to disagree.

I intended nothing personal in my replies

  • Cuz

Fully agree about the Sun column. It mystifies me as to why she does it. I get that the paper mirrors her political views, but in terms of its attitude towards women it seems antithetical to what she says she stands for.
  • That was my point grey apart from that I don’t mind her but as nothing to do with West Ham really
  • Pearce and Irvine are official.
  • Billy McKinley also to join up soon
  • Did anyone else notice that our next six games are all live on TV?

Watford 4pm Sun 19 Nov Sky
Leicester 8pm Fri 24 Nov Sky
Everton 8pm Weds 29 Nov BT
    Man C 4pm Sun 3 Dec Sky
Chelsea 12:30pm Sat 9 Dec Sky
Arsenal 8pm Weds 13 Dec BT

Has any other manager played their first six games in charge of a team live on TV? In fact has any team ever played six consecutive games live on TV?
  • McKinlay has joined according to Sunderland’s official website.
  • Suppose he’s going to surround himself with people he knows and trusts, with Pearce I’m not so sure passion was big part of his game and if he could bring that to our team to go with the obvious ability then I for one will be a happy HAMMER

I'm pleased about Pearce and hope it's more than the 'mascot' appointment Dicks appears to have been.
  • True suze never quite new what his actual role was
  • Decent backroom team all have managed at a decent level and have lots of experience. I would expect us to be much better prepared for games. I can see Pearce as maybe being the bridge between the players and the manager sorting out any problems within the dressing room with the captain. Always liked Pearce as a player always had the right attitude I remember him breaking his leg for us and I think he tried to come back on.
  • ...yes, I think he tried to 'run it off'!!
  • Good appointments

2 very experienced guys, may not have had the best runs but assistant roles probably suit them

Also Pearce did manage the England u21 for a good time so that coupled with Moyes faith in youth might see some of the kids get some game time

Wasn't Mark Noble Pearce's captain for the U21s?

    EDIT: Yes he was
  • I like these appointments.

A common issue that I kept reading / hearing with Bilic was that nobody knew who his assistants were, and nobody knew what they did. Under Allardyce we all had a pretty good idea about who was who and what they were doing, but the guys Slav had seemed pretty useless (obviously I don't know if they were though).

I really believe that these are appointments that will drive the club forward.

Both Pearce and Irvine have spent a lot of their coaching careers in youth development too, so, if these become long term appointments, it could be a positive for the academy too.
  • Interesting that each of Irvine, Pearce and McKinlay have all experience as a number 1, albeit not with any great deal of success. But I think the fact they were all in that role, and seen as suitable by owners for those positions, is a positive.

I'm starting to warm to the idea of this management team being here for longer than the six months.

I was very anti-Moyes when it was first mooted, but he's making all the right noises and seems to be a lot more involved in the training sessions. On a personal level he'll be very motivated to do well, and I think the players will react to that.

I think if he can build a decent foundation with Irvine, Pearce and McKinley and they keep us up, I'd be loathe to change that again in the summer should a 'big' name become available ;hmm

I guess it all depends on what happens between now and May, but if he can get us playing to our potential and we finish top 12, you could argure he's done enough to warrant more time in post.
  • OCS, I’m warming to a little I’m hoping he can sort us out and build something, if he’s as good as he says he his and that’s not a dig at him he could build us into regular top ten finishes and chance of cup or Europe so good luck to him and his team
  • its the 'Hope' that kills you ;lol isn't that what someone said when describing supporting West Ham
  • “I don’t think it’s a bad team, a bad squad. But I can’t be bothered with any drivel. I’m going to be direct with the players. If they don’t like it, then I’m sorry. We’ve got to make sure we get through to them quickly. If it works, great. If it doesn’t, then I’ll see the East End of London for seven months, then I’ll go elsewhere.”
    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/nov/11/david-moyes-javier-hernandez-future-west-ham

    ;hmm

TBH I think his success here will come down to how motivated he really is. He could just as easily think “if it doesn’t work I only had 6 months to make an impact, and I won’t be tied down to the club long term”.

Hopefully he’s determined to put himself back on the map.
