    a) There is no real way to tell if that is the actual price (apparently Turkish clubs regularly underplay how much they pay for players.)

    b) If that is the price someone is willing to pay then that is his worth.

Assuming the club actually want rid (and there is no confirmation of that) should they hold out for £10m for him, and still have him on the books at the end of August?

If Turkey is the only place that wants him, we have to accept that they pay less. Their record transfer fee for the top division is about 17m Euros. (according to Transfermarkt website)
  • We were never going to get much for him. Although West Ham fans would recognise his improvement in the second half of the season, those outside the club would still refer to him as a flop

Depends if we have someone else lined up, cause I highly doubt it. We had a bench of kids in the last 2 games of last season because of all our injuries and it seems we are going to have less midfielders and strikers than last season !
  • Saw an article somewhere saying Slav wanted to keep Martinez with the first team after being impressed with him during preseason with quotes from Slaven I think

While I'm nervous about Carroll and Sakho and think we do need another CF buying a possible 4th choice striker is hard given every player what's to play (and we rarely go 2 uptop) and it would likely be a waste of money

I don't think Martinez is ready but there were many who were asking for him last year so I can accept him as our 4th choice CF and maybe leaves more in the kitty to get a proper CDM which is our area of weakness

I recognised an improvement from dreadful to bad. Not sure if that means he's not a flop? ;wink
  • Watford is a far better prospect for Gray than us, they often play two up front, we've just bought Hernandez who is most likely going to be the starter so Gray wouldn't get as many opportunities here as he would at Watford.

I think the squad is in a good place; good depth, versatility and a very strong first 15/16 man squad which is the most important thing to learn from the previous season.

In an ideal world people would like another proven striker but to sign one is expensive and even more so to potentially be 2nd choice or even 3rd choice when Carroll is back because 99% of the time we only play some variation of 1 up front, so unless there is anyone of real calibre or talent we can bring in, then I believe we have enough, certainly enough to last until the window re-opens if needed. Through the middle we have Hernandez/Antonio/Ayew/Carroll/Sakho and even Arnautovic can play across the front three positions whilst Martinez will hopefully be enjoying a good loan or doing well with the U23s which will be much more difficult this season after gaining promotion to the top division.

I would like to see Adama Traore and Jack wilshere personally if the right kind of deals can be made. Traore has phenomenal pace, ability and the ability to carry the ball and beat men at ease which is an area that would not only improve us as a counter attacking side (we were very poor countering last season) but would also give us more arsenal and options, more dynamism and the option of different combinations when needed, especially at home. Whilst I believe Wilshere's attributes would make us more cohesive and balanced but most importantly more coordinated when in possession; often we keep the ball well but end up going side to side then eventually giving it to Lanzini or Antonio to do something special; Whilsere's ability to play the ball late+early, to carry it, to drive through the lines would make a big difference IMO.
  • Snodgrass to Villa?
  • Young Jack's science project ;thumbsup

  • Wouldn't trust the mail although I'd like to see him go, mostly coz he's in huge wages but also coz he just isn't good enough for where we wanna get to
  • Has anyone seen Watford's unveiling video for Andre Gray?
  • Seems to me like he's made some demands behind closed doors and been fobbed off so he's going public? Just my guess mind you.
  • Could be as lukerz said it's a bit strange

Maybe it's a message to the board that they need to try step it up a level

Mind you I can't help but wonder that he's just seen one of his clubs best players being sold and that player has doubled his wages at a team who are now more likely to win a major competition than Spurs

He has no boyhood favourite team allegiance to spurs so I don't blame him, just strange that he's made it so public
  • Sounds like it was part of a much longer, wide-ranging interview, and the Sun just cherry picked quotes?
  • Does indeed seem like that MrsG, but that doesn't take away from what he has said. I don't think much context is needed to realise the severity of some of those quotes.
  • ;ok

I think most of what he said is fair enough...

  • Yorkshire lad calling a spade a spade....

  • Real northeners call a spade a shovel ;wink
  • That’s a threp in’t steans

(total coincidence that I just stumbled on this bit of Yorkshire wisdom....)
  • A lot of twitter talk about William Carvalho. Sporting Lisbon & Portugal DM. He's a very good player, but obviously that is a step up in quality from the Portuguese league (think Gianni Imbula). Apparently he has recently changed agents and wants to move to us. We're offering £25m.
  • Allegedly the release clause is £40m
  • Oooo serious ;biggrin

What are serious about? A 15 man midfield?
  • Who does Carvalho even replace ?
  • Who does Carvalho even replace ?

    Nordviedt, obviously.
  • Who do Sporting Lisbon have in the CL quals ?
  • Can't see noble playing if we sign him ;hmm
  • I would be very happy if we pull this off! We could be lining up as per the below:

    Hart

    Zab Reid Fonte Cresswell

    Carvalho Obiang

    Antonio Lanzini Arnautovic

    Hernandez

Subs: Adrian, Ogbonna, Masuaku, Kouyate, Noble, Fernandes, Ayew, Carrol

Just think back a couple of seasons and most of us would have jumped at the chance to have all of those on the bench above in our starting line up, and that's not including others such as Byram, Collins, Sakho. I am not counting Feg and Snod as it looks as though they are both off now.

That is a very strong squad, my only concern is genuine back up for Lanzini but we do have a number of players that could fill in there, one of whom was our record signing last season!
