  • Slav needs to regrow his beard to strike fear into players and opposition alike
  • NEWCASTLE CHRONICLE

West Ham want to replace Slaven Bilic with Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez if they decide to sack the under-pressure Croatian.

    No, they don't. Really.
  • Slav needs his chance, and January is his chance.

He has overseen the worst transfer window it could be possible to imagine (after one of the best last summer), in fact nothing would have been better than what they did in the summer. We could put that down to qualifying for the Europa, but even if being kind in doing so it was awful as those players are not up to that either.

The board need back him to the most extent possible and he needs sell and buy, he then needs provide results that allow us to finish in the top half of the table, even if only just. If he fails to sort out the squad I think he must take the blame for that in the summer, unless of course there is more to it and the board are not able to support, but you would guess we at least have the money we were going to spend on Zsa Zsa and hopefully they will dig deeper still in the circumstances.

I like Slav and I think he has been a good appointment and will prove to be even better, but now is a big moment for him, the board and the club, their reaction to that moment will demonstrate if he is the manager for us, if the board are able or willing to swim in the most ludicrous and expensive environment that is premiership ownership.

I hope he and they will come through but at present we have teething problems with the move, the squad is not up to the task and we need recruit and retain this January.

  • Or, more likely, in the fetid minds of the has-been sport hacks.
  • Re Telegraph article...I got to the bit where Arthur Masuaku has flopped and then threw up and gave up. Codswallop of the highest order.
  • Excellent Article, full of fact based investigation.

    Quality broadsheet.

    No wonder print is dead.

Tbf, the writer is close to the owners. Not saying that means anything in this case.

And lets be honest, Masuaku hasn't exactly excelled. He had a couple of ok games (where he was the best of a bad bunch) but then has a mare at WBA and has been crocked since.
  • The last sentence of that report says that West Ham will listen to offers including
Andy Carroll, don't think they would get much with his injury record.
  • ;beer ;wotsits take it ,take it NOW
  • Not that I think the owners are even considering sacking Slav, BUT

Did anyone read the interview with Les Reed on the BBC last week? He was saying that Southampton have a method in place where they are constantly scouting managers and players and have ideas on multiple possible replacements for all existing players and staff. He said that Koeman leaving was unexpected, but that they were still prepared because they had such an in depth knowledge of who they would be interested in if they ever needed a change.

I think it's extremely unlikely that, in a profession as public as football, there are any clubs who are not keeping tabs on multiple options just as a contingency.
  • But most of them keep that info under their hats. ;whistle

We need to show the kind of faith in him that we except players and managers to show in the club.
  • Right.

    So.

A week later I'm asking how at risk is he from getting the sack right now.
  • I think he is at the end of the plank, one more step in the wrong direction and
    SPLOSH.
  • I don't think they'll sack him.

If they didn't sack Avram in a far worse position then they won't sack Slav
  • alderz, I agree. If, however, we don't get a few points on the board in the (on paper) easier games coming up, then unless there are mitigating circumstances, I could see it being more likely.

Not saying they will, mind. And I hear what you say about Grant, but the situation f the club is different now, so I don't think it's a direct comparison.

He's basically gone all in with yesterdays comments. Made it black and white, with no murky area in between.

If the players don't respond positively, in training and then in matches, he'll be gone, because it will just highlight they're not on board with him. He knows it. He knows he's played his ace card early and if it doesn't pay off he'll have nothing else.

Needs a performance full of guts against LFC, no matter the outcome, and then a win over Burnley, otherwise it'll be curtains.
  • I will be gutted if he loses his job...
But it's a results business and this season we are lacking them...
I'd sooner stick with him and see if he can handle it, we have had so many worse managers IMO ...
But time will tell, has got to have till Xmas surely ...

I don't want him sacked either.

Last season was sensational. You don't become bad after 14 games. He showed how good he was tactically with the wins against the big teams.

But we know the Dave's will not watch us slide to the foot of the table in our new 'glorious' home.
  • He needs 8 points against Burnley Hull Swansea Leicester. If not then he is gone ;wave
  • That's our season right there. Need to be targeting a minimum of 9 points.

Last season was excellent. This season so far has been awful. He deserves time but if we don't get anything out of the games above then there may be no choice but to let him go.
  • Think he's looking for a reaction from the players. LFC isn't the one, it's the three after that are important.

  • We need to go back to Payet central. He's not involved enough out wide and we all know about his tracking back ability.
  • Randolph
    Antonio - Reid - Ogbonna - Cresswell
    Kouyate - Obiang
    Ayew - Payet - Lanzini
    Carroll

Can we get that XI out in the coming weeks?
  • Not sure what the laws are on allowing crutches on the pitch.
  • Thing with Slav is I thought he'd be a bit angry as a manager. Like 'you wouldn't want to mess with him'. But he's quite the opposite. Open, honest, nice...

Maybe the players are taking the mick. Think they can get away with it as he's a bit soft.
  • Exactly. Those lazy, overpaid crybabies need a firmer hand, not a Mr. Nice Guy.
