  • They should have been around when games were played Christmas Day with reverse fixtures Boxing Day and dependent upon which weekday Christmas fell they could play on the Saturday too. What would they have made of that.
  • Apples and stair cases.

Don't think you have taken SB right, tbh.

He is pointing out that we (along with everyone else) have to play 3 games in the space of 7 days, and that is one too many (given that the accepted recovery time after a game is 3 days.)

I don't see what relevance how hard or how little other people work has to do with it.

If you want elite athletes to perform to elite levels, they need to be able to recover properly. If you take that recovery time away, their performance is liable to be lower than their optimum, regardless of how much they get paid, or how much other people have to do to earn a fraction of their wages.

Tbh, I think it's a myth when people like to take the mick out of "poor little footballers unable to play 3 games in 5 days on £100,000 a week", as I've never heard a footballer complain about it.

(not aimed at you at all, aka) ;ok

I don't get what they get paid had to do with length of recovery.

Does rubbing £100 pound notes on a muscle help it recover quicker?

If so I might try that on my hip.

Ahh but that is because there isn't a £100 pound note.

    ;doh

I better make it 2 £50's then ;lol

Move away from the ;redwine Suzanne.
  • I've scarfed up Suzanne's ;redwine can I have my £50 notes please? ;wahoo otherwise I'll have to make do with a half and half Vicks and Deep Heat and a rub down with the Sporting Life ;biggrin
  • There aren't £100 notes? ;nonono

No wonder the bloke in the bar gave me such a good exchange rate on the Euro...

    ;weep
  • Slav. ;hug sort of fits like a favourite pair of shoes. Long may you reign.
  • Sullivan's annual new year attempt to much things up? Why has be brought up this Rafa 2 hours thing again?

I thought the same thing when I read this. What's the point of bringing this up? Why make public that Slaven only got the job because Rafa, Klopp and possibly others turned it down?
He does say that he's happy with the manager he got but that gets hidden in the rest of the story.
  • Ditto - absolutely zero point in bringing up all these names now - we have Bilic and he is the only person they should be thinking about

It's only part of the interview.

    http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/dec/28/david-sullivan-west-ham-rafael-benitez-manuel-lanzini

He also reveals we will sign Lanzini earlier than April, thinks Payet is the best player he has ever signed, and is happy we got Bilic.

It's the Guardian that has chosen to lead with the Benitez part of the story.

They could easily have had 'Payet best player I've ever signed' as the heading, or
'West Ham to make Lanzini deal permanent'.

I did wonder if it wasn't a rehash of a variety of different quotes.

I couldn't see what the source was.
  • Seems a rehash. However, Sullivan should not be mentioning other names. He should know how the media work. It doesn't read well if you are Bilic as he is reminded that he was 3rd choice at best.
  • In the interview DS says he interviewed Slaven 4/5 years ago but he wouldn't come unless he was given 30M to spend. Also says he was the best of the rest (after Benitez) and he's very happy with him. See: http://www.skysports.com/watch/video/10111958/west-ham-were-close-to-appointing-benitez no subscription necessary.
  • Grey, it's not clear what the question is but he does start off talking about Bilic and then leads into the topic of Benitez in that video, which the journalist follows up on. Just seems unnecessary to bring up, he didn't need to create a new headline that could cause tension with the manager.
  • I'm happy with Slaven Bilic. I don't want a Scouse reject, or a bit of Euro trash. I want somebody who can work with what he has and get the best out of it. And change and mould the squad as money and time allows. This season I would be happy with mid table, three years from now , maybe that won't be good enough. But Slaven is going about it in his own style, and we appear to have a happy single minded club. I like that.
  • Brilliant ;ok Unlike most of the managers in the league.
  • Love it when he says "we didn't lose"

He was definitely feeling the pressure.

These kind of interviews do Sully no favours at all imo. He's been doing this kind of stuff for years. No need to mention any other managers at all.

With regards Slav, he says all the right stuff, brutally honest.

He didn't want to humiliate any of the players by taking someone off before HT.

Wonder if the Ogbonna sub earlier in the season played a part in his thinking.

  • Slavs passion ;clap ;bowdown
  • This man's honesty is fantastic:

Grey ;ok also thought Koeman showed some class yesterday. Gave us a lot of credit for the 2nd half
  • “It was the players who changed the game around,” said Bilic afterwards. “We can talk about what I said at half-time but then you could ask me what I said before the game for us to play that badly."
