    Looking good boss
  • Sorry, was in hospital and on Morphine at the time of the Newcastle game trying to follow it on beeb so was confused ;biggrin
  • I think you had a lucky escape... ;wink
  • You don't know how correct you are Suz, but for other reasons .....
  • "Slaven probably just wishes they would shut up," says Lawrenson. "
Why not just leave him to get on with managing the team? That is difficult enough anyway.
Says a man who makes a living from picking holes in footballers and managers...

There's a massive difference between being criticised by a third party who's just there to prompt discussion that feeds our obsession with football and being undermined by the guy who employs you. No one actually cares about Lawro's opinion.
  • Outcast

Yes, I'm not actually unaware of the difference, thanks.

I thought it was mildly ironic, that's all.

    Looking for his mangerial heights
  • Mark Lawrenson: IT WAS October 1988. I'd only been in charge of Oxford for seven months, my first managerial job after giving up the game the previous March because of an Achilles tendon injury.
    Thanks to the independent
  • According to the Mirror ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel has rejected a possible move to replace Bilic although no mention where this info came from.

The Times says that Newcastle will start contract talks with Benitez in order to avoid losing him to West Ham

Nah, apparently it's Wagner, the Huddersfield manager. http://www.examiner.co.uk/sport/football/news/huddersfield-town-boss-david-wagner-13670481 )

    You couldn't make it up.

    Oh, hang on...
  • I thought the Fulham boss had this tied up. ;hmm
  • I can't see Bilic's contract being extended which leaves us in the situation where the players / manager drift through another season like Big Sam's last season. There does n't seem to be a long term plan our team isn't balanced its all square pegs round holes again or Bilic playing players out of position to fit someone else in the team. I don't have high hopes for this season think its going to be a case of just staying up again.
  • S&G made "appoint the right manager" the first item of their 10-point pledge, if they don't give Bilic a new contract then we'll have had eight seasons without finding the right manager.

It reminds me of one of my favourite Smiths songs

So tell me how long before the last one?
And tell me how long before the right one?
This story is old - I KNOW but it goes on

Only if you think there's only one Mr Right (you old romantic you ;wink ) and that what sort of manager the club needs will not change according to circumstances.

Or that the Mr. Right is the one in it for long-term development, able to ride the short-term changes in circumstances ;biggrin
  • Reporting of Carlo Ancelotti being lined up - I suspect just more lazy journalism on account of him just being sacked, I hope so as do not rate him really and would rather stick with Slav. I would happily take Benitez were he available but not Ancelotti.
  • We were linked with Ancelotti in May 2011 after he'd been sacked by Chelsea and May 2015 after he'd been sacked by Real Madrid.

In 2011 he said that he'd happily manage us in the Champo but later he semed to have gone off the idea while in 2015 he took a year off to have back surgery

Even though it is purely hypothetical as we already have a manager in situ I would have to strongly disagree about Rafa v Carlo

    Carlo every time for me.
  • If the Dave's have already made the call that Bilic will see out the season, then he should be sacked now.

Can't keep operating on a season by season basis. If he isn't the right man for next season they need to replace him with the right man now.
  • Maybe the right right man isn't available, and Slav if the rightest one who is ;wahoo
  • Ancelotti is a very good manager imo, only "failure" is Bayern where he lost three games this season....

Would take him in a heart beat.
  • Carlo has offers from China. He won't come here if he can earn MEGAMEGABUCKS elsewhere
  • I don't want to see Bilic go, but for some reason I can see Carlo coming to us and if Slav was to go he would be one of the top of my wish list to replace him.
  • Carlo has only ever managed big teams, take away the money not so sure he will be as good.
  • I can't remember where I saw it, but I am sure I read once that the players normally really respond to him as a manger and play to their best. Although he has been at big teams I don't have him down as a cheque book manager like Jose or Pep.
  • I would guess that is a feature of most manager / player relationships for a period of time

Doesn't make a difference if the players keep making individual mistakes
  • I always think it helps a manager if he selects players in their best positions, "blah blah and all that". ;wink
